Nice effects but yeah I was pretty confused about the controls and objective. It said to heal the enemies but I wasn't able to target them?

Developer(+1)

Yeah it def needs a tutorial and the "extra" abilities removing - for the first crab you can use magic > Healga or items > enemy potion, the others are mostly just narrative and implied; will hopefully have a fully working system in the post jam release. Thanks for playing :)

Not super sure about how it follows the theme. nonetheless, great job on the entry

I always love to see an RPG maker game, but unfortunately I didn't get to see how this follows the theme. Still enjoyable though!

Developer(+1)

Haha, tenuously! The core idea I guess is "In RPGs you always hurt/kill the monster... what if you were supposed to heal them instead, after a "hero" has already come through and "defeated" them" - it didn't quite get to shine in the demo, will hopefully be more clear in the post-release version. Thank you for playing! ^_^

Oooh okay, then I misunderstood. I like that idea!

Submitted(+1)

Oh I was probably supposed to be helping the monsters wasn't I... oopsie doodles! Great concept!

Nice idea! Quite sad that there’s too little content. A tutorial would help, I found the battle system really confusing - right from the start you have a few dozen actions to choose from, with no idea on what you’re supposed to do.

Anyways, looks promising, nice job.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions, I'm glad you liked the concept ^_^. A lot of the stuff is default RPGMaker, the actual non-planning part of the project happened in ~3 hours so a lot of the ancilliary stuff from the engine ended up making it in, hoping to polish this up and release it for the post-jam-jam :). Thanks again, good luck with your game too, it's great!

I really liked the gameplay and the idea, I would play even more! Good job!

I love the idea behind the game, really hits when you meet the mouse... good luck with the jam :)

Wow this is so fleshed out for a 48 hour game jam. Well done

Definitely a novel approach - I killed the crab out of habit, then felt very bad! That poor rat too :(

Nice to see a narrative use of the theme :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I do like to go the narrative route when I can :) plus a case of matching skills to the jam hah, this one ended up being a bit of a rush so I'm happy with how it came out so far, hopefully will flesh out the story a bit more now that the jam rush is over and the recontextualising will make a bit more sense xD

I like the idea behind this.
Neat that you decided to make an RPG Maker experience.

Submitted(+1)

I like the theme and wasn't expecting the feels when I came across the rat ;_;

Submitted(+1)

It's kind of eerie without music. If you expand on this game, I hope it keeps that eeriness!

Developer(+1)

Hah thanks, it's a "feature" of slapping it together in the last 3 hours after a panic ^^;;; but you're right I like the way it adds to the atmosphere of "things are slightly off". Or maybe a really downbeat / stripped back version of a regular rpg-esque theme. Thank you for the thought food!

Feel bad about the rat's family :( Rare to see a story driven game in such a short jam, well done!

Developer

Yeah IKR! My partner did the text for that one and I came in to test and was like ._. that's dark xD. Thank you very much! Was a bit frustrating at times (haha understatement of the year) but so glad we got one in :D
