This brings back memories of playing Spore in the past! Great job, love the unique aesthetics!

Developer

Thanks for checking it out and playing our game! Yes, spore and frogger were two inspirations :)

Very cool idea and implementation. I did not immediately understand that the character can swim left and right, since there was no feedback that the character was changing position. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for checking out our game!  I have a new version ready to upload after the Jam ends with parallax background, lots of people commented it needed a little more definition.  Thank you so much for the comments, I appreciate them!

Such a nice idea!

Thank you for checking out our game!

This was really cool! I loved the artwork for the various fish types - some of them definitely gave creepy vibes when I saw them passing nearby.

Nice music too, it fits the game setting very well! Adds to the atmosphere, as does the darkness of the deep ocean.

I loved the progression of the chomp sounds, and the game had me curious to see where the evolutions would take me.

I made it to the end. Congrats on having time to include an ending! :) Very nice entry!

Developer

Thank you for your comments, I am glad you enjoyed our creatures and the atmosphere!  I appreciate you taking the time to play and rate :)

Good game, I liked watching the character evolve and hearing his voice get deeper. I didn't realize at first that I could move left and right. Some scenery to show horizontal movement I think would be helpful. A fun game, though. Good work!

Developer

Thanks for your input, I am working on better background right now, and will update when the jam is over.  Glad you enjoyed, and I am happy you enjoyed his voice change! :)

Remind me playing Spore back in days! Gj, cool aesthetic and gameplay!

Developer

Thank you for playing and checking it out, yes Spore was definately in the back of my mind, hoping to expand the game on that theme as well! :)

Cool game, definitely reminds me of spore with the whole evolution thing. I really liked the references to real life prehistoric creatures like the nautilus and the creature that scientist couldn't tell which was it's head and which was it's tail (i forgot it's name).

But i didn't really like how when you are at the edge of the map an enemy can just spawn on top of you and instantly kill you, maybe you could have an indicator there before the enemies spawn.

Also maybe could have added more objects in the background so you could tell if you were actually moving or not.

Good job!

Developer

Thanks for your comments! I appreciate the thought about the enemy just spawning on the ends, and I have a good idea to  give you a "warning" to get moving, and will be implementing it after the jam ends.  I appreciate the insight!  Also, background parallax is coming, as well as more scenery for the movement, this was one of the most commented on parts, and I appreciate all the input so I can make it a better game! Thank you!

Cool idea! made me think of all the hours I used to spend playing spore!

ah man, thank you for only setting me back to the start of the stage when i died. This is a nice simple game. Great work on the cutscenes!

Developer

Thank you for checking out and playing our game!  I am glad you appreciated the reset at the stage you were at, I always find it frustrating to be sent back to the start on a game, so worked hard to get that implemented and I am glad so many people appreciated that. Thanks!

Simple but cool!

I liked the idea, good job deploying it. i would loved to see controller support though, really nice that you dont  start from the beginning if you die.

Developer

Thanks for coming and checking out our game!  I hadn't even thought of controller support, so I appreciate you mentioning that!

So in the first area, if you go in one direction until you see the wall, it kind of looks like the side view a face. And when you start, you kind of look like an eye. And so I thought "I'm gonna go up there and complete the face!" and then a crazy eel came out of nowhere and scared me! And also ate me up! And that was great.

Then I played the game properly and evolved further and further, getting all the way to the surface, and at 49 points there were creepy water scorpions everywhere, I knew I only needed one more point to succeed but I couldn't avoid them. 💀 So I really, really appreciate that I restarted on that stage and not all the way at the bottom again. :D

I really like games like these, I made a kind of similar one for last year's jam, even! The only suggestion I'd make is being able to eat the enemies which picked on you in the early stages once you're larger than they are for some delicious revenge.

Developer(+1)

"delicious revenge" ... LOL!!!  Yes, what a great idea! Will be implemented!  Glad you enjoyed, and glad you appreciated the level restart not taking you back to stage 1 ... I hate putting all the work into getting somewhere in a game and then starting back at zero, it frustrates me and detracts from my enjoyment, so I am glad others appreciate not having to start at the beginning as well. Thanks for checking it out and your lovely comment!!

Submitted(+1)

You're very welcome! Thank you for a fun gaming experience! :D (And the only jump scare I've had in the jam so far!)

I like the little evolution from the dark depts.
Nice little game. Good job.

Really fun game, always happy when I finish a game. I enjoyed how the character and other elements changed throughout the game. As others have mentioned, it would be good to have a background with more detail as it was sometimes hard to tell how fast you were moving.

Developer

Thanks for coming and checking it out and commenting!  Yes, the background will be getting an update after the jam, it definitely needs something to help the movement feel.

Submitted(+1)

Fun game with a nice concept. I would recommend making the water background a little bit more detailed because it was difficult to tell when you were moving

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking out our game!  Yes, the water definitely needs an update ... that will come after the jam is complete.  Just one of those things you don't think about until it is up in public and then it was like "ohhhh...!"  BTW Loved your game!

Submitted(+1)

Nice game! A good mix of spore and feeding frenzy :D simple, but works nicely! Well done!

Developer

We appreciate you come and playing our game, and thanks for the comment!

Very fun game! I really loved the variety of creatures. The music and sound effects are also hilarious. Great humour and amazing job!

Developer

Thanks so much for the comments and playing! I am glad you enjoyed the character art!

Submitted(+1)

Awesome spore vibes! Fun little game, would love to see you expand upon it

Developer

Thansk for playing and the comments!  Yes, I would love to keep working on it into a whole Spore-esque world... glad you enjoyed!

Submitted(+1)

The cute little creature in stage 4 was just deformed :/ :D Fun little game for sure!
Suggestion, background should have some variations, so the movement feels straigthaway better. We had the same thing at start, that our background was just same, but you couldn't really feel/see the movement as well, even if the movement itself was alright.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing! Yes, the background will be getting an update ... I completely agree it needs it to have that movement feel.  One of those things that slipped by the wayside ... lol!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game ! Thanks for playing ours !

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing our game too!
