How does your game fit the theme?
Two lovers are joined together metaphorically and by two mechanisms. When the lovers are apart, their health depletes. When they are together, they heal. However, they must split up in order to dodge obstacles. Will they make it past this rough patch in their relationship, or will they drift apart...

A bit too difficult at times (cruel, just like real life :D), but a very interesting game.

Really nice! !  it wold be better if it had best score or another key to restart, i miss click a lot of times and didn't saw my score.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for this suggestion! I also noticed myself skipping my score by mistake since there's not really any forgiveness on the spacebar. I'll probably add a delay before restarting for future versions so you can get a look at your score.

I really enjoyed the concept and the setup - incentivizing holding down space to come together through the idea of "were drifting apart" is really clever!

Submitted(+1)

Such a cool and relaxing game. It fits perfect with the theme of the game jam.

Cute concept! I had a hard time getting the hang of the mechanic at first, but found that pressing the spacebar rapidly helped "hold" the rafts in one position long enough to slip through the rocks. I agree with other comments that recommend not dying instantly when you hit a rock, but instead lose some heart or something. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing the game and thank you for the feedback! I guess I'll have to pilot some people and see which mechanism they find more fun. Thanks again :)

So glad this wasn't a space themed game! Like a few others, I found it challenging. Is there a bonus for when the raft is together? I liked the heart animation, but I wanted some reward beyond that like extra points haha

Developer

The bonus is you stay alive haha. If you're apart for too long the game ends as you've drifted apart. I think the current version is too generous with life so in future iterations it would be more clear that the heart is your life. Glad you found it challenging!

Submitted

Ohhhhhh, I didn't notice! I died from hitting the rocks too soon every time :D That's good!

Submitted(+1)

Nice concept! One-button games always work really well, especially for jam games. Good job!

Submitted(+1)

Pretty hard for me, I can't keep the rafts steady, so any clump of rocks was game over for me.  I liked the different game over messages, which is good, because I saw them a lot.

Submitted(+1)

Nice, a one-button game! I have a special fascination with one-button games because I'm always amazed at how much variety you can get out of a single input.

Something to consider if you do a post-jam build: What if hitting rocks wasn't an instant game over? What if you instead got some invulnerability frames and lost a bit of "heart" instead? Each side could have their own independent invulnerability frame timer so getting hit twice at the same time hurts more than just one person getting hit.

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Somebody else also suggested a non-insta kill rock interaction. I'm okay with experimenting with the idea, but I do like the cruelty of insta death similar to Flappy Bird. I do think the game needs some balancing though and taking damage with intangibility frames may make it more accessible and overall more fun so I'll probably play around with the idea. Thanks again!

Nice little entry, never seen a variation on this type of game with symmetric, splittable, player character. I like the addition of the heart, which forces me to make more decisions than just avoiding the obstacles in the easy way.

The "game over" messages were also very interesting for me, when I was done with the game I just kept crashing to see them all 💔💔💔 got a melancholic vibe from it

Developer(+1)

I really appreciate it! I was definitely going for the melancholic vibe so I'm glad it translated well :)

Really nice! Like the art style and the challenge level is right in that sweet spot of being challenging enough to be engaging, but not so challenging that it is frustrating.  Being a one button game this game screams mobile to me.  You should totally port it.  I think having a couple more mechanics would've been nice, but hey this was a 48 hour jam after all so I totally get it.  Good job and solid game!

Submitted(+1)

It is a really chill game. I like your concept!
I think with a little bit of added variety it could be a nice mobile game.

Submitted(+1)

Really charming aesthetic! One thing that I noticed is that the heart didn't seem to matter: it was always the obstacles that ended things, never staying apart itself.

Developer

I appreciate it! That's feedback I've received from other people as well and it's something I'll fine tune if I decide to polish this up. I wanted to make sure each row pair was possible to traverse and found that having a slow draining rate was an easy modifiable parameter to guarantee that, but it's certainly not locked in yet. Thanks again!

Submitted

If you're considering changing it, I'd personally like to see the rocks damage the heart, rather than cause an instant game over. I feel like it would open up the possibility for some nice post-loss narratives like "if only I'd risked bringing them together two rocks ago, I could have survived hitting this one!"

Developer

That's an interesting idea, maybe I'll toy around with it, thanks!

Submitted(+1)

Very good! My biggest issue with this game is how hard it is, the rafts drift away so fast! But still, I tried a lot of games and I had a good time.

Submitted(+1)

Simple, effective, and well executed.

Submitted(+1)

Excellent work on this. Great concept and nice presentation

Submitted(+1)

You could explore further and try to make this into a proper hyper causal game, concept is really good :D

Developer

I appreciate it! I'll definitely consider hashing this out fully if there's a demand for it!

Submitted(+1)

I loved the theme! The symbolical interpretation of "drifting apart" and its mechanical counterpart. It reminds me of the old game The Marriage by Rod Humble. Why is it so hard to sustain this connection without drifting apart? Thematically one of my favorite games so far!

Thank you for making this game!

Developer

Thank you so much for your comment! I'll have to try The Marriage now :)

Nice game! its simple, feels good to play, and hard! nice twist on an oldschool concept

Submitted(+1)

nice game, a little hard to start :P but when you can control better the space bar, you can make some points!
