In what way does your game fit the theme?
You cooperate with your scientist partner, who asks you to create objects. Working together, makes them better.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes. All the code and assets are done by us during this week, except for the main song. The song and musician are mentioned in the credits menu.

Nice work!

Good application of the theme. The time limit contributed a lot, since it may have been a bit boring without that.

I thought the graphics were very pretty everywhere except the main gameplay area (which the player spends most of their time in). If that got a face-lift, everything would look great. Nice work with the pixel art.

The timer was a bit out of position, probably because I am on a 1920x1200 monitor.

I enjoyed playing!

Developer

Yes, the canvas isn't adapted to all resolutions... Sorry :P Glad you liked it! Thanks for playing!

The visuals were definitely the strong category here. The gameplay was very simplistic with trial and error. The sound design was decent but nothing to crazy was done here. The menu system was fantastic. The main game issues was the intro was a bit annoyingly long especially with how easy it was to lose. And sometimes the combinations didn't make complete sense. This had a lot of polish but I think focusing on end user experience would have been nice.

I streamed it here:

Thanks for playing and glad you liked it! Yes, it will be polished after the gamejam, cause it needs some love on that department :P

Wow this was surprisingly fun! This is great for an arcade-y high score based game. It was a bit annoying to have to listen to the scientist explain how to play each time, but still a great time.

Developer

Will be skippable after the gamejam. Thanks for playing!

Really hard game and you have to watch the tutorial over and over again when you fail. Good concept but this is frustrating.

Art:

  • Everything looks readable which is good

  • There seems to be a mix of high-res and low-res which I’m not a fan of

  • Some of the colors are a bit too low in contrast. I’d suggest using a pre-made palette from a site like Lospec

  • There’s quite a lot of mixels

Main Menu:

  • Looks good as a whole

  • I appreciate you adding a mute button. I won’t click it so I can critique the audio too but most games don’t add one so it’s always nice when they do

  • Transitions look good

  • The tutorial text is quite blurry but I think that might be intentional

Game:

  • The dialogue goes by a bit too fast

  • Typo: “merge 2 components of the table” => “merge 2 components on the table”

  • When you retry the game you have to go through all the dialogue again which is a bit of a pain

  • It’s not very clear what some of the solutions are. It seems like a lot of trial and error is involved which I’m not a fan of. Edit: It becomes more clear as you start to recognise patterns. Most solutions seem to only require 2 materials

  • It’s really satisfying once you start getting the hang of it

  • Nice attention to detail with Darude Sandstorm

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the huge amount of feedback! Appreciate it really! A few notes:

-Both on the How to play menu, and the professor dialogue, it says it has to be 2 components, so ALL the solutions are made of 2 components. We might add something to make it more clear that it's all made of 2 components, no more.

-Dialogue goes by fast cause there wasn't a way to skip it, so when playing more than one time it was kinda tedious to read it all again. On the new version we will upload when gamejam finishes, text goes slower, but you can skip it.

-Typo is corrected aswell for the upcoming version, sorry :P

-Glad you liked Darude, like everyone does :D

Haha, despite seeing the professor dialogue like 20 times I still missed that somehow, thanks for letting me know

Edit: And I even quoted it in my comment 🤦‍♂️

Developer

Hahahaha no problem!

Cute game, gave me a lot of memories of the games you'd find in educational games in the 90s/early 00s. I agree with some others that some solutions were maybe not as clear but I still had fun.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad it gave you some good memories back :)

This game was tough! I enjoyed the idea though I often struggled to tell what each symbol meant. Music was great!

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing!

The game is simple but the sprites are very nice :)

I enjoyed it, pretty cool! but as some other people commented that the intro cutscene is unskippable and yeah I don't like that. But it's got a epic menu art and good job for you guys! Maybe just skip a dialogue by left clicking ? (no need to skip the whole cutscene in case someone still doesn't understand what todo).

Developer

Yes, after the jam is over, there will be an update which makes the dialogue skippable... Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Nicely done arts and music. The premise is a little simplistic and I thought the professor should not go through the intro in each retry. But this is cool and the DARUDE SANDSTORM gives it an instant plus!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the video! Yes, after the jam, we will update the game so you can skip the professor's dialogue... Thanks for playing!

Cool game! I enjoyed the fast paced nature of it and could feel the pressure of trying to keep up with what was being requested. I thought all of the combinations made sense but were pretty funny. Who knew an airplane is just metal plus wind? That gave me a good laugh. Overall a really fun game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yes, it's 100% real, if you take a piece of metal and throw it to the air, it suddenly transforms into a plane! Try it! :D

Really cool game, good job.

Pretty good game! The music, art and UI are all perfect, however I do wish I could skip the intro cutscene. Overall though, pretty good game. Simplistic and easy to start up.

Developer

Skipping the dialogue will be available after the jam is over... Glad you liked it! Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Great concept, great theme implementation and great art (especially UI)! Only wish I could skip the intro dialogue.

Developer

Skipping the dialogue will be available once the jam is over... Thanks for playing!

This game is really fun! the only thing I would suggest is to make a quit button, so closing the game is easier. Otherwise, really super fun game!

Developer

The quit button is on the main menu... We thought that in a game like this a pause menu would be bad for the pace... Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game overall. I love the pixelated graphics and the music goes well with the artstyle. It was a good twist on the jam's theme. The only thing was I didn't realize that you could unselect and reselect other materials in the time, maybe add that somewhere in the instructions. I would also make it so you could skip the initial dialogue so players can get right back to the gain after messing up. Otherwise I enjoyed playing it on stream! Great job!

Developer

Select/Deselect is on the how to play menu, you didn't see it I guess :P. For the skippable dialogue, yes, it will be live once the jam ends... Thanks for playing!

Submitted

I suck at this game. Annoying to wait professor's speach every time.

Developer

Sad you didn't like it that much... Yeah, scientist's speech is going to be skippable after the jam... Thanks for playing!

Submitted

Hey, dont worry:) everything is cool!

Submitted(+1)

This is an really cool game! The concept is pretty cool, the artstyle is great and the soundtrack is just sooo awesome!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

The UI and main menu is so well done, polished and unique! Very unique aswell with the approach to the theme. Quite challenging aswell to figure out what materials are needed to make the thing. Good game overall
