the atmosphere of this game is amazing, great artwork, music, and sound effects. The controls are a little hard to get used to though.
The idea is good and I like the atmosphere. It feels a bit too difficult, and perhaps the ambition with the game was a bit too high. But overall a okay jam game.
I like how the game looks and sounds! Also really challenging, I'm more of a WASD guy, so I would also recommend having a controller scheme for that too.
That was okay, the levels could be more interesting. Pretty basic platformer.
Hi! I liked your game! It was pretty fun, I absolutely loved the opening, I though it was creative and unique, and I liked the vibe, from the music to the graphic style. I did feel as though the controls were a bit too tight, making it somewhat difficult to perform certain jumps, and maybe a bit more broadcasting to the player about when platforms are going to disappear would help. Overall good job though!
Hey I would really like a Zip file or Webbuidl for the next time :-) But your game is awesome!
awesome game i liked it, but plz better controls. overall awesome game, rate mine plz
Zip file next time, please!
What I didn't like:
- Couldn't use WSAD/Mouse, controls overall I didn't like (shift would have been nice for dash as well)
What I liked:
- The art was very nice
- Audio was good
Overall, after 10 tries, I had to rage quit because I couldn't get used to the controls which made me keep falling or making silly mistakes, dying too easily.
Obviously, rebinds in a gamejam might be too much of a timesink, but allowing for a variety of controls would be nice!
Art looks good. I liked the screen shake on the attack and dash, made them weightier. Solid sound and music. Appreciate multiple tracks. Good in-game tutorial and addition of checkpoints. One issue I ran into is sometimes my dash didn't work. Not sure what might have caused it, but it's not a huge deal; it happens very rarely.
Very fun game, very good art work overall very good game. Little confusing at the start figuring out what i had to do as others have stated but still a good game none the less!
Really nice art style. I was a bit confused at the start about what I had to do but when I figured that out it was really fun. Good job!!
I really liked the concept, but I got stuck at the stone part when the souls button didn't work :( ... I really liked the art, you did a fantastic job, might I suggest coyote time for the platforming if you decide to update it after the jam :)
I agree that the art style is great, definitely a strong point.
The platforming is a good challenge too, the dashing feels very rewarding when you get it right and just plain fun even when you don't. Though once I came to where wood was introduced I became aware of just how frustrating it was that other stone platforms didn't work in the one-way manner wood did. Wood is the best platform, change my mind.
I only have two major gripes with the game - the first is the enemies. They take a good few hits to defeat, which wouldn't be as big of an issue if they weren't so efficient at depleting your health. A single enemy can shoot me three times before I manage to kill it, so finding another a short ways down the track can kill me immediately without giving me a fighting chance. It's frustrating and makes them feel more road-blocky than they deserve to be.
Finally, the notion of absorbing souls to get stronger is great, but it wasn't expressed strongly enough to feel like a 'core force' of the game, even though it is. Finding a new soul feels more like a classic "obtaining a new skill" moment than joining forces with other souls to become stronger. This wouldn't have been so noticeable if it weren't for - in addition to the theme of the jam influencing my interpretation - the death screen reinforcing the notion of 'together'.
At the moment it doesn't feel like there's anyone to be 'together' with, which is frustrating if only in the sense that I know contextually there is, it just isn't reinforced enough in-universe. I really like the concept of working together with other souls, I think it's a great aspect of the game that deserves buffing up. I think a bit more work on this could really make that element shine and I'd really love to see it!
Thank you for detailed review! I'm glad that some topics make you fun :)
About enemies, I'm sure this is an issues of lack of time and lack of playtests in development process, so want to say that next time we will improve.
About concept. You are right, due to luck of time I missed to integrate all plot stuff, that we designed. Each soul has to mean important part of protaganist. First able to look is mother, second - able to move is father, third - ability to fight and defense yourself, friendship. Fourth - love. And in the end yourself, when you fully become together with you. Sounds and art is ready for to be added into game, but lack time for me as a programmer to add this. So my fault :) Hope in future we will solve it and improve!
Really cool game. Big fan of the art style also. What does 'STLF' mean though? I found the game exe to be called STLF_jam.exe
