This is an interesting game, and I can see how both our game are similar and certainly don't abondon the project, the art is already there, just need a little more polish and juice. Overall, Good job👍👍
Very unique concept with a lot of potential. Honestly I would get rid of the time mechanic since I think the game would be stronger without it. To keep it interesting you could bring elements in like action points so the player still needs to be decisive with their choices.
Anyway definitely one of the more interesting jams I tried! Are you guys planning on continuing with this project?
This is a very unique game and concept! And the art is very nice. Each kingdom felt very fleshed out with their own characters and backstory. However, I found myself getting very overwhelmed very quickly by the timer. I was also a bit confused on what to do, as it was hard to remember what all the relationships were. I think it would be better if the time given was much longer, or even if there was no timer at all. That way, players could have more time to get to know all the characters and kingdoms so they can make the best decisions.
Very cool game! I like the idea a lot!
LOVELY game!
Really creative approach to the theme! I love how each kingdom feels distinct, and the diplomacy system gives you actual agency. The pixel art is charming and the music complements the strategic vibe perfectly.
The main thing that stands out is pacing, the timers felt a bit tight, especially when trying to read through dialogue and make decisions. Maybe a slightly longer timer or a “ready” phase before each diplomatic round could make it feel less rushed.
Still, it’s a polished first jam entry with a lot of potential, and the humor in the writing (Sun Kingdom! AARRGGGHHHH) really sells the personality of the game!
Nice work!
ALSO, if you like brain-teasing puzzle platformers make sure to check our our game!!!
Very interesting game where you talk to different kingdoms to form alliances and improve relationships. It’s cool how different choices can affect their opinion of you, both positively and negatively. Also, the Sun Kingdom has no chill, really radiating some attitude.
The scrolling title screen is such a strong opener. The way it sweeps through the different kingdoms with those transitions looks really good. Those are definitely some strange places.
I also liked the diplomacy setup where you're basically playing your own game instead of being forced to keep everyone else happy. The pixel art looks really good, and the music track fits that "strategic politics" vibe, if that makes sense. The UI sounds are nice and responsive as well.
Cool concept with a lot of charm. Also, love "a TAN!? Dost thou have ANY idea what the SUN doth to parchment?!" XD
Ah, finally some appreciation for the 3a.m. ideas for the lore! :D
Very interesting, your parrallax artwork / pixel work is stunning and the sounds are great. So audio and visual is brilliant --design wise it needs some time in the oven.
Specific gripe - The timers between sections felt a tad too short. my suggestion would be to try limiting the timer mechanic to when you're actually talking to one of the diplomats, a "find" portion seems like filler content to me and doesnt really add anything to the experience (in my view).
Even understanding briefly what I was meant to be doing I struggled to figure out what was going on for a while, Im still not quite sure I know the full scope of it -- That said, you were trying an assortment of mechanics I hadnt seen together before, and there is inherent friction to that process. I'd say the game is pretty innovative, and for the most part the dialogue I did see had alot of charm and personality to it.
Overall there was some seriously inspiring stuff here. (Very good for a 1 week jam btw)
Wow a looooooot of potential but I think the first level should be some kind of tutorial where there is no timer to have the time to understand everything. Anyway very good job !
Intersting idea! For me the timer could be a little longer I wasted too much time reading the options lol.
Great job!
I like the art and theme. Timer during the diplomacy phase could be a bit longer, but overall it's a good game with a lot of potential.
Very novel concept! I feel like this kind of theme and gameplay are kind of unexplored so good call there. As far as the game itself goes the presentation is really nice but maybe the time for each phase is kind of short. Finding diplomats and then talking with them was barely possible in a single setting, leaving almost no time to think. I agree that having a timer makes things more exciting but maybe dial it down a little bit. Good job!
I like the idea of a diplomacy game where you're mainly looking out for yourself. The sun kingdom is the best though!
I really liked the idea. Fits the theme well.
What I enjoyed:
- The fact I did not have to keep relations nice between other kingdoms. I could stir up drama but still win if everyone is friendly with me.
- The art is really nice. I enjoy pixel art a lot.
- The music was really fitting.
What could be improved:
- I feel like the time is a bit low and I couldn't fully enjoy the game because I felt pressured to talk to someone and read as fast as possible all the options. When I learned all the options and knew where everybody was I was able to get everything wrapped up in time. I would suggest increasing the time and maybe adding a skip day button for when the player is done.
Good work :)
I like the idea you cooked up here! The pixel art is really good. And with some UI touch ups and more time to find and converse with the rulers I´d really love this game. The writing is very fun and it´s clear you´ve worked very hard to make this. Great job!!
I like the concept, I feel like the phases could last more because i almost had no time to talk with the rulers but it looks polished and fun. In my opinion it's also hard to tell the relationships between each kingdom.
About the relationships between the kingdoms - we had the idea to make 20 kingdoms that are opposite to each other (for example sun - moon, fire - ice --> here sun doesn't like moon and ice, moon likes ice, sun likes fire, and so on), but we couldn't make it in time (i guess we were too optimistic on the 1st day, haha). Hopefully we will add more kingdoms soon, so it can make a little bit more sense.
That's a cool idea, in my comment i was referring more the UI elements, for the amount of time for each phase is hard to keep track of everything. I think slowing down a bit of each phase could improve the overall gameplay loop.
Interesting concept.
Thank you
The game looks interesting, but I can’t figure out how to play.
Thank you! Uploaded a new version with game breaking bug fixes and some instructions on how to play! Hope that helps!
I wish there was an explanation in the description of how the game worked, but i like the creativity
I'm sorry about your experience! I uploaded a new version and some instructions on how to play! Hope that helps!
Thanks!
Now that I understand that game, its pretty cool. I will say it is a bit fast to try to talk to people and then also I'm pretty sure I could just keep becoming more friendly by choosing the option at the top every time. But I still like the concept. I also really do like the art and the music (especially the art on the title screen is really cool).
And also as a sneaky self promotion i will say our game also focuses on befriending foreign civilizations, so check it out if you want
Ngl I had no idea what I was doing, very creative tho. I liked it
XD I understand the confusion. A lot of comments regarding that hence I uploaded a new version addressing this problems! Hope that helps!
