dude this is such a fun game. loved the speedometer and dino fighting. im really bad at this game but its very endearing!

Submitted(+1)

it's pretty neat, i like the sprites and the themes, im kind of confused when everybody is doing 0 to everyone else, maybe it's a bug? or I probably don't understand the stats

(+1)

Even though I was hoping for more F dinos with M protag, it was still pretty fun. The idea of an NSFW Fossil Fighters type game definitely has legs. Think you'll expand on this after the jam? It'll be interesting seeing what you come up with without a time limit.

Developer(+1)

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Glad to see you enjoyed it! And yeah, I defintely intend to keep working on this, I already have a few new gameplay ideas a a rough draft for a fully-fledged story :)

Nice!

Interesting writing and game idea but unfournatly like everyone else reviewing the game it seems like dinosaurs in larger parties are undefeatable and the parties that are only 1 dinosaur all get ko'd in 1 hit so its impossible to actually get to play the combat system thats been set up. i liked all the dinosaur sprites idk what the different colors mean though

Developer

Hi, thank you for taking the time to play my game. I've seen the other comments and I did pass trough a balancing phase to try and get all attacks and dinos to an acceptable stat line but apprently it wasn't enough. I should've probably explained the colors are elemental resistances and weaknesses in combat, but I thought it was common enough to those type of monster tamin games that I didn't think of mentioning it.

I rather love the concept here. I've never played "Fossil Fighters", but if it's anything like this game then I'm sure I would have loved it, too.

Sadly, I think I did something wrong or there's a mechanic that I fail to grasp, because I keep getting stuck in an endless loop trying to defeat enemy Dinos placed on Blue tiles during battle: neither I nor them can properly hurt each other (the attackes keeps staying at Zero).

A pity, since I quite like the general game loop here.

Developer(+1)

Hi, thank your for your feeback :) As the others said there's a big issue with how I did balancing, I did do a few passes to get everything right but I wasn't thourough enough apprently :/

I love Fossil Fighters! I miss that series so much. I do wish this game had a fossil cleaning mechanic as that was always what i liked the most about FF's presentation, but that would definitely be a ton of extra work for a game jam haha

The core loop of digging -> fighting and fusing -> reset map & repeat is pretty satisfying even with as limited as the game is, and the punny dinosaur names are so on the nose that I can't help but love them. The battle system is definitely imbalanced but i liked how your own fuckosaurs would gain a mixed debuff/boost as your playable character delved deeper and had to remove some clothes, and I could see that being an interesting risk-reward with some more polish.

FF's battle system is really cool, and i know you didn't have time to implement things like rotation, but if you do find time to add that in I'd love to revisit this! I never encountered the infinite battle bug, but I did have my inventory disappear a couple times when i went to the tent but didn't fuse anything.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad to see another FF enjoyer!!!!

I get your feeling about the mining mechanic of FF, but as you said, not enough time. Plus I wanted to replace it with another mining mechanic from a game I love (Glean) but I definitely wanted to try it at least :)

And I definitely intend to come back to this and make it a complete game with a better balanced gameplay and better written story :)

As for the inventory, it's normal if it dissapear at your base, as it's added to your base's reserve in the cloning room, so you can deposit your stuff all at once and continue mining or clone dinos. It's not a bug. Maybe I should have added a tooltip or a message to make this clear.

Thanks again for your time :)

this is cute!  i'm not familiar with fossil fighters but i can take a guess at what it was like based on this, haha

i wish i'd been able to play it longer but i couldn't seem to defeat any level 2, uh, trainers?  i kept getting stuck in a loop where they'd have only a guy on a blue panel left and then we'd both just keep doing zero damage to each other.  i don't know if i misunderstood something about the battle system?  maybe i needed to grind on level 1s more, but i was already oneshotting everything else

i do like the physical arrangement and how it actually factors in though, that seems interesting!  i'm curious if there are multi-hit moves or other fancier stuff later on

Developer

Thank you for reviewing my game :) Yeah, I've had multiple reports of people noticing the lack of balance, I should have spent more time on this :/

You can definitely level up your dinos to compensate. Also, you do gain new attacks as you level up, but for this prototype, they only deal more damage and have an elemental attribute associated to them (like pokemon). No fancy multi-attack or other abilities, I didn't have the time to implement them (but i wish I did) >_>

Submitted(+1)

A neat concept! I liked the writing and found it pretty well put together. I did some how end up stuck in a loop where neither team could cause damage and I just had to surrender.

Developer

Hi, thank you for your time :) I'm glad someone enjoyed the writing, I'm always on the fence about length vs quality, but oh well...

I definitely get you about the lack of balance, guess I wasn't thourough enough >_>

Submitted(+1)

Pretty neat little game! The combat is a bit bare and a bit frustrating, but the fusion element is cool

Developer

Thank you :) I hear you about the combat, it needs some more balancing, I had multiple passes at it but it wasn't enough >_>

Submitted(+1)

The mining section feels great to navigate, and mining upwards to return isn't something I ever saw in these types of games, it's fun! Combat can be a bit frustrating, it doesn't feel like you have a lot of options and sometimes you run into opponents that have armor that blocks all attacks or those who dodge every hit. The cloning is interesting, it definitely gives a reason for players to keep going and experiment with different combinations. Music choice  sets the right tone, and I like the very animated menus and presentation. The writing feels right for the type of game this is, but perhaps having much shorter but more varied intimate scenes would work better for how frequent the encounters are? It's a big and ambitious project to tackle in a game jam, I'm impressed you got everything to work so well!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, that's very kind of you :) I've heard many ppl complaining about the combat by now, and I understand. I didn't have much time to balance all the mechanics, so some dinos are too strong while others are too weak. You can level up and gain new elemental attacks, but I was afraid it would take a bit too long to grind before ppl would get sick of it.

I hear you about the sex scenes too, I always struggle with keeping my writing short >_> I tried keepng a good balance between context and text length, but it seems I failed in doing so :(

Submitted(+1)

I'm not familiar with the game that inspired this one, so the system you're using is probably based on that one, but I think that the most reliable way to improve the combat would be to prevent no damage situations. You could just reduce everything to hit points and damage and focus on elements for advantage or disadvantage. Alternatively, turn armor into a shield that blocks a set amount of damage in a fight. I usually avoid dodge entirely when I design combat, but the best implementations I've seen are the ones where each attack attempts to land multiple hits. Critical hits are usually a fairer alternative to dodges because something still happens even if you don't crit.

Developer(+1)

I get what you're saying, but this was way out of the scope I settled on for this jam x) Getting just the basic combat system was a nightmare in a half, and I did plan to get a few more mechanics in (namely, the ability to change the formation of your dinos) but I didn't have the time and I really needed to save as much time as possible for drawing the sprites and making the game as pretty as possible.

Next time maybe? I do intend to push the idea of dino battling further in a future project :)

As someone who did know about Fossil Fighters 1 and 2 growing up, this actually gave me a little chuckle upon seeing it, so I tried it out. was not disappointed really, lacking it may have been in areas (certainly think some settings for volume would be good)

Developer

Thank you! I was scared to be the only one here knowing about Fossil Fighters. It's not as fleshed out as the original game for sure, my intent was more about mashing two games I really liked (FF and Glean). I think it came out relatively well, but there were many parts I didn't have the time to flesh out properly, like a settings menu or some gameplay mechanics :(

Submitted(+1)

I like the idea but not really familiar with the original and had a hard time figuring out what to do

Developer

Hi! Thank you for leaving a review. I feared this would be the case for some players. I didn't want to be too handhold-y, so I had added some tooltips to help visualize some stats, and I wanted to do the same for some other stuff in order to have non-intrusive instructions, but I couldn't find the time to do so :(

Submitted(+1)

Well-rounded game with fun premise and a loop that sucks you in as you keep getting greedy for more loot. I would have liked horny attacks for my monsters and maybe interactive sex scenes (a content warning for feral would have been nice).
I encountered a bug when dying from energy loss where my inventory would be perma locked.

Developer

Thank you for your feeback! Yeah totally get you about the attacks.

That's the second bug I'm getting about th einventory, I still have yet to find out where it is in the code specifically. Thans for reporting it :)

Submitted(+1)

The game was fun to play.
I losed track of time while playing it and that's always a good thing.
There is a little polish to make, like running against corners launch you to space.
But the dyno scenes were all different so I always had an incentive to keep going.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm aware of the collision issue, but the alternative was getting the collider stuck on the floor every two meters. I don't know why the collisions are so wonky, but I couldn't find any resource online to fix it so I took the lesser evil >_>

Submitted

On being grid based and 2D the solution most will sugest is to make the checks and position shifts manually when they overlap.

Probably that is why the resource is not available u.u

Developer(+1)

Oh yeah, I just used the engine's default collision components and didn't give it much of a thought, I didn't want to bother with this much since that wasn't the focus of the game. At least the player won't have any trouble getting back to the surface  :p

Overall really fun gameplay loop with the dino battles mixed in with the mining for fossils and upgrading your team and resources. As others have said I think a goal to reach would add a lot, maybe a "quota" of fossils per day or battles fought, gems found, etc.

Really lots of potential with this concept, had a lot of fun getting all the upgrades and making a team of dinos.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! I didn't want a fixed ending because I know some people would not complete the game to the end, so I made it this way to allow everyone to play the game at their own pace and have at least a satisfying experience no matter how far they progressed.

Submitted(+1)

Im really enjoying this so far, its got a satisfying gameplay loop & I love the descriptions :D <3  (I might have got a taste for submitting in battle) XD

The one bug Ive encountered is sometimes it decides  my inventory is full when it isnt which prevents me picking up new fossils! (or sperm extract!)This also happens after filling the inventory and removing some of the fossils by cloning.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback :) I'm defintely surprised by the inventory bug, tho I have no idea where it could come from. Glad you enjoyed the game overall :)

Submitted(+1)

Quite a lot going on here, although I have to admit I’m not sure what I was doing wrong when only my starter dino seemed to be doing any damage worth anything. I have to say I absolutely love the GUI animations and sounds, those really stood out to me. The horny aspects weren’t really my thing so I’m less able to judge those but I was surprised at how much text there was (long detailed scenes for many of the lustosaurs was something I wasn’t expecting on a jam deadline). General gameplay loop was pretty neat but I would have loved there to be some sort of goal or conclusion. Overall pretty good!

Developer(+1)

Hi, thank you for taking the time to review my game! I'm not too hot on what I did for the sex scenes either, I always struggle with keeping it short. I know the combat has some balancing issues, I did a second pass recently but apprently it wasn't enough. I didn't implement a conclusion as I didn't necesarily feel the need for it, or there would be a lot more grind that I would've wanted.
