Amazing pixel art! The game is really interesting is like a mix between a puzzle game and an action game, having to figure out what to do is part of the charm, the music was great and overall a really fun experience! Plus i can play it in my miyoo mini!
Im glad you liked it n n thanks
Very challenging ngl (im just bad at games haha) but damn that's impressive, a fullblown GB game! I'm honestly really curious about the process for making something like this - is all of the programming done in some kind of assembly, or is there a studio / dev environment that abstracts a lot of that? regardless this is really dope and I'm excited to see what else your team makes!
You can check all my other demos and games on my itch n.n and its made with the gbstudio thanks n n
Can’t get more authentic than an actual Gameboy game, impressive :o
I really like the aesthetic of this, it has a very megaman vibe to it, it almost feels like you’ve added the ridable suits mechanic from X4 into one of the classic 8bit episodes :D
Music is also quite a bop.
Gameplay is fine but has its quirks, i couldn’t figure out how to use the wrench powerup, i suppose it’s a passive thing cause i sometimes got some hp back for the mech when i ejected in time ?
Also while i get that you made the pilot weak to contrast with the mech, dying in 2 hits is a bit rough, especially since you have to fight a mech on foot to reach yours O_o quite a spike from the start. Once you reach it things get a bit better since you can heal the pilot when mounting the mech.
Other than that i had fun trying this, it’s really polished for a jam entry especially considering it is an actual gameboy game.
Great job to you guys :)
thanks a lot for your comment, a few points you can jump over the enemy mech and walk over it to get to your mech, and i know 2 hits is not enough, but thats the thing, you can heal the pilot by riding the mech, and honestly a lot of old games made you die on one hit and people loved them xD i'm glad you liked it n.n
I enjoyed the authentic retro vibes of your game. It looks and feels just like a game made in a previous century should. Visuals and sound are cool and fit one another well. Mechanics and gameplay are straightforward in their base, yet have a lot of depth. It feels the right way, how the challenge slowly develops as you pass from one scene to another.
I only had some issues with controls at the start. Nothing to do with the game itself, though. I played in a browser, and the controls were slightly different from what is described on the game page.
thanks a lot n_n and one question how the controlls where different? so i can correct it n_n
Looks and sounds great, I really struggled to make it very far though. Maybe I'm just really bad or the player does need a tiny bit more health.
thanks a lot, and the pilot is frail because that's the principal difference of using and not using the mech n_n
The concept/story is very cool, the sprites are great. You've done a lot with the controls and getting into / out of the mech etc. I only wish there was a checkpoint system* instead of kicking me out to the beginning after dying.
* maybe there is a checkpoint system but if so I died before reaching my first checkpoint, multiple times LOL and waiting through the intro AGAIN is just not appealing
Im working right now on how to skip the intro, and the stage is so small that i dont think it needs a checkpoint, but surely in the future more longer version there will be a save feature and checkpoints n.n thanks
Stomping on enemies feels great, however I got stuck in a room (where I needed to roll?) Didn't figure out how to do it, even tho i read all controls and tried all combinations. A tip for future control layouts: to simulate GB use arrows + Z X C and N M (as start and pause) instead of WASD and F G H J.
im not simulating gameboy, ITS A GAMEBOY game, you can play it on your emulator with the controlls however you want them, and the roll is DOWN + JUMP
Uhh, I meant to say simulating a gameboy in HTML5, because I played the game through browser and not a gameboy device. I believe it's a simulation of a gameboy (or recreation, imitation, whatever).
Yeah and I tried the down + jump, the robot didn't roll for me. I'm down to streaming and showing this realtime if you want.
The robot doesnt roll, the pilot rolls, you have to get out of the robot, also it is not a simulation, its a real rom on an emulator, you are welcome to download an emulator and try the rom with the configuration you like the most, also also in the page states that the roll is pilon only as the fly is robot only
Pretty cool! Looks and feels like an actual game boy game!
thanks a lot dan n_n
clapclapclap
Some of the enemy placement is evil but its still fun. I couldn't figure out what to do in the room with the button thing on the floor though and I got stuck.
if you press start (G) you can see a map, you have to go back to take the other rute
This is awesome. Gameplay is fun, and I love the little animations, when the mech starts up, its transformation into the flight mode, its a great mech. And I love a good scifi acronym.
thanks a lot n.nim planing to make it larger n n
Great work Proto, like I mentioned, I think that the damage to player can be balanced a little more - and some placements of enemies can also be more fair. Overall, the movement options feel great and it's fun to use the mech suit as well as getting in and out of it. It would be cool to see this expanded upon.
Anyways,
Thanks for your contributions to our project and good luck!
thanks a lot man n.n it was super fun and i didnt do a lot but i hope what i did was helpfúl n.n
you did plenty - the drones and stations were already enough in my book, but you also improved upon my UI art which I appreciated.
I played it for a bit and i really enjoyed the look of it, the gameboy style. Its great! solid entry!
the gameboy style is because its a gameboy game xD thanks a lot n.n
Super carismático. Espero ver más de esta propuesta jugable.
se super agradece señor n.n
The art and animation are great. The gameplay is also good.
However, I found it quite a hassle to start from the title screen after every death. But maybe that's just the way GB is. That aside, it's a nice game. Well done
i think it's too short to put checkpoints, but i plan to make it larger and put save points, thanks n_n
That will be great.
Only complaint is that the intro text is a difficult font to read, and really long.
The art, color scheme, mechanics, are all super good and polished! I really like the mini map too, what a nice feature
thanks a lot, i'm working on make a skip button, about the font, what you think is what makes it difficult to read? thanks again
Probably mild dislexia, or size, but you don't have that many pixels to work with.
tldr XD Solid gameboy mech platformer, nice work.
dont worry no one does, also im working on skippeable text and multiple endings
The pixel art is awesome and the gameplay is really good. The map implementation really helped with navigation because some of the entrances and exits between zones were a little hidden. The only issue were the keyboard controls which were a little difficult to get used to at first, though that's a little unavoidable. Overall this is a really great GB game. Great job!
thanks a lot for the comment, you can download the rom and play it on your emulator with the controll placed as you like
Solid GBA game, the art and sound are very fitting. Also for the MechJam.
Gameplay wise:
thanks a lot n_n when you say "keyboard layout" you mean the way i mapped the buttons? or the buttons what they do IN game?
