Very fun, and a dazzling amount of polish.

It's very interesting seeing the different takes on the beat loop genre and how the little changes radically affect the game feel.

I really liked the augment cassettes especially, as one big problem we encountered was we couldn't find a good reason to have rest notes in later levels.

Great Job!

Developer

We put a lot of effort into the polish for this jam, glad that it resonates with so many people!

You're right about the gamefeel, had a blast on your game aswell!

So polished and clean! Love the art and character designs, definitely makes sense that two of the three team members are credited as artists. The game loop is also the perfect difficulty, never got bored with the new types of tapes but never felt too overwhelmed. My only critique is that of many games of this type, where the enemy AI is so simple that it is easy to maneuver around them in a big circle as they predictably follow the player with no variation. I think for a game this short it's really not a big deal, but for replay value and challenge I think some added randomness to the enemy movement would make it more fun. Awesome job!

Developer

You're right about the AI;  for the jam timeframe it's all we could implement, but we'll definitly work on it if we decided to bring this further!

Wow, one of my favorites for sure! The level of polish is unbelievable! I am amazed you made such a game in just 4 days. The art-style and music are wonderful. Really cool idea with perfect execution!

Developer

Such a nice comment! Thank you very very much, it goes straight to our hearts!

Really well made and great style. As others have pointed out, everything feels really cohesive with all the UI elements moving the beat and such. Fun theme and great artwork, maybe the music could have been a bit more present and with some more time it'd be nice to have more musical sound effects for the spell cassettes.

I really love the core idea as well, having to balance how many power ups vs. how many offesive abilities, picking which things go first so you can sequence fire into disco balls or make sure that your most powerful spell sticks on screen for long enough etc. It's really smart, well done!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing, glad you liked our game!

For those wondering how to create juice for your jam builds this is a prime example of how a few systems can be combined to create something truly spectacular. Paying attention to how the sprites move subtlety, the sync of the UI element bounces, and the organic design of some elements against the slanted "cool" style of UI elements makes everything feel incredibly polished.

It would be cool to swap out soundtracks for difficulty modes, such as a faster paced beat to do more damage but face more enemies.

Developer

That's so kind of you! Glad that you noticed all the details our programmer set up!

We'll definitly think about swapping soundtracks if we choose to work on it further!

Based on the name I expected a game akin to Crypt of the NecroDancer, but I was nicely surprised with a Vampire Survivors-like! The game feels great - the controls are smooth, the graphics are nice, and the music is excellent. Just overall a great experience. One minor thing that could be improved is the balancing - I felt like I got a pretty strong build by the second wave already and the enemies weren't much of a threat, but I might've just been lucky! :D

Great job!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, the balance aspect is hard to grasp in the jam frame, and we prefer the game to be too easy than too hard!

Developer

Thank you very much for playing it on stream! Glad you liked it!

really really fun. i love how the powers can synergize off of each other, gives it a lot of depth! i love how everything is on the beat, i love how the enemies bounce to the music! could add more movement abilities, potentially? anyway, freaking well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! Yes, synergies are something we tried to push as much as we could! And we were considering adding dashes, but that was cut due to lack of time.

Amazing! I think this is easily in the top-ten games of the jam.

Developer

Wow, thanks a lot! We're very glad you enjoyed the game!

Banger of a game! Amazing art, clever idea, and some surprising depth with the cassette tapes. Amazing job!

One of the best if not the best game I have played this jam!

I absolutely loved every second this.

Only thing I could honestly suggest is just more particle effects maybe feedback (like camera shake). But even then I feel like if you had more time for it you would have had them.

Amazing job, I hope there is a full release version after the jam.

Developer

Thanks! That's great to hear! We love adding juice and feedback, and we put as much as we could into the four days: it's not decided yet, but if we continued the game to make it a full release, there would be even more particles and effects, absolutely!

Submitted(+1)
