This is very cool. The visuals are very neat, you even made animations! And retro, and so is the sound design. I think the health metrics left me a little confused because of the way things were announced, and with all the pauses (knight - three - health). It’s good to have that info, but with the dragon - of course, the murderous dragon - it ended up difficult to follow. I think it’s interesting that the last level is so hard and steep compared to the others ones. It’s like sending us for a trip. Had it been a bit less steep, it’d probably be more feasible. But getting there with 3 health and not much preparation, oh boy!

I think it’s really fun, I think it’s great you gave the mechanics such a twist. It’s like we’re counter-attacking his moves. Never was an arrow game so narratively meaningful.

I would say the only downsides are the pace/intonation about the health, and the story between levels would have benefitted from a higher-quality mic or something similar to reduce the white noise. I had to open my eyes to read it. Though let’s be honest, I’d probably do that anyway to read it. Another thing I’d prefer would be if we could read that story part without it repeating on loop (so like us triggering to read again).

But honestly besides this, I think it’s very good. Simple mechanics with a very creative twist, challenging and fun. I would take the opportunity to polish it a little bit with the sound or any other feedback you received, and maybe make it an even longer story, like… an rpg! Walking around and finding these types of enemies and fighting them when you encounter them, until you get to the princess. This is a really nice minigame, congratulations.

PS: for us noobs, I hope I get a secret intermediate level before the dragon so I can practice not getting crushed so fast. It’s lovely.

You’re welcome! Congratulations on the 7th place!

Even though the  gameplay is simple the presentation is charming and amazing. All of the music is excellent, the sounds appropriately retro and even though the gameplay concept of repeating arrow key sequences itself is very simple and has been done before, you put a fun spin on it with the different enemies. That dragon trolled me so hard before the patch, I could only get it to 5 health at most even though I went into this game with probably too much confidence. :) At least I got the last laugh post patch

lol I’m glad you were able to beat it, and once again thanks for playing!

The dragon was genuinely tricky !

Developer(+1)

He was even harder, before the newest patch lol.

Damn, but it’s rewarding when you beat it, well made overall !

I really enjoyed playing your game, and the story, it was more challenging than i expected but fun nether the less. I especially liked having to press the opposite key, that is an awesome idea and like that there is hit points for enemies and yourself.

I found it hard to know when to block, I think maybe it should be a different key like spacebar which could prevent you inputting the arrows to attack when held down. The arrows spoken were not the clearest but did sound fun. Clearing a level is very satisfying.  Can't fault it!

I Enjoyed the game! The visuals are nice and simple and it fits well with the sound and music.

It feels really satisfying to hiy correctly.

The dragon was really hard to beat but I made it :)

The attack command sound is unclear for me and I couldn't do a blind run because I couldn't understand what i'm supposed to press. I also felt like the time window to dodge the poision was too short especially when the wind was on.

Other than that the game is great!

Good video game!

The sound effects are successful and the atmosphere of the game is successful.

Hello. It turned out very cool. A variety of mechanics pleased. English is not my native language, but I have problems with understanding only a flying monster, I had to record sound and drive through the recognition of speech. Otherwise, I agree with other users. The fast attack of the dragon is too fast, I did not have time to press the button. All directions are more or less understandable, except for "правоright". Maybe the words should be replaced with sound in the corresponding direction?

This was amazing in every way - I loved the pixelated art style, the music and sound effects, the voice recordings, the enemy designs, the story, everything! This was so fun to play, and really came together.

I couldn't quite handle the final dragon (the purple attacks were a tad too quick for me to handle 😅). As others mentioned, giving more time or audio cues for these inbetween purple attacks would be good. Additionally I was caught off-guard that there was no instruction to "press any key to continue" between screens (but I was able to see that, so it wasn't an issue).

Overall this game was fun, and it was clear a lot of work went into this. Great job on the submission!

Great concept and aesthetic. I enjoyed the process of getting to the dragon, and gave it many attempts, but I was simply too weak to slay it. The hardest part for me was understanding the voice lines for the input prompts. While they could certainly be re-recorded, I’d love if it leaned more into the rhythm game aesthetic with unique sound effects for each prompt and then me playing them back. Nice work!

At first I tried playing with my eyes closed an was immediately stuck on the first screen since nothing indicated to press a button to start the game. So I navigated a bit with my eyes open and once in gameplay tried playing with my eyes closed.

The voice lines for the directions from the creatures is a bit too distorted and muddy to make out what they are saying clearly. The main voice lines were a it muddy too. Look up how to use a noise reduction, compressor, eq filtering and normalize for audacity (or whatever program you use) That will elevate the audio to a brand new level!

Due to these issues I thought maybe this game was more meant for visual impairments other than complete blindness so I played squinted to give myself blurry vision. The large text, big characters and large direction indicators are a nice touch for this type of accessibility. The music was also a good choice. The victory sound was a bit loud compared to the rest of the game.

The gameplay itself was fantastic. simon says with timing bundled with a solid motivation/theming is a good start and adding in the twists of additional timings, blocking, and inversing the inputs occasionally made for a fun challenge. Only slight complaint I could give to gameplay is at first the window to respond for your button presses is very short which learning the game makes it feel a bit unfair to get smacked so quickly in the face lol. Also the difficulty spike on the boss having twice the amount of directions to remember on top of all the other gimmicks was a bit of struggle.  Possibly increasing the directions slowly as you move towards the big boss could have helped with prepping the user for that.

Those are very minor things, so thanks for sharing this project. Very well done and you should be proud of what you pulled off here!

The voice that says the directions I need to press is not the easiest to understand but this is a solid concept. Fun art too!

I saw the gifs on the page and was like “ohhh I’m gonna like this one!” and it didn’t miss!

I love anything timing / rhythm related and was greatly surprised by this game.

Every enemy brings something new, unique and fun!

The only down point is that the recordings for the directions are not easy to understand (the speech voice have a lot of noise but can be understood, you may want to try and remove background noise in audacity if you use it, just learned to do it in 2 minutes). Though you sound like you had fun recording your voicelines which is a bliss to listen to!

Also did not expect to have the progression saved in the webgl build :D

I’m glad you enjoyed so much! I definitely have to go over and work on the audio, I bit-crushed it to begin with to make it fit the pixelated style, but realize now that it may have been too much.  Thank you for playing!

Wow, this is so sick! Love the strong art and sound direction, including the boss themes tailored to each enemy - the dog one made me laugh. I was unfortunately unable to land a single hit on the 9hp final boss, but i think that was a skill issue haha. I think my only real feedback is that by the time i got to the dragon bossfight, the soundscape was a little crowded with the open/close, all the attack directions, etc. I was also sometimes confused why i took damage, if my input was too early or too late or if i made a different mistake. Overall though, I think you really rose to the occasion of making a complex, challenging game that can be played with no visuals. My favorite part was probably the first dragon fight, I smiled ear to ear when i heard they could invert the polarity of inputs. Such a creative idea, and it was really delightful to have that mechanic ome back in the final boss. Great job!!!!!

Warms my heart to hear how much my game made you smile! The main critique I’ve been getting is busy audio so I’ll need to get to that. Thanks for playing!

This game is a lot of fun! I liked the story snippets between fights and I also like the background music but my personal preference would be to dial the volume down slightly. The victory sound and other sound effects are great. The whole game design is very solid and I love the creative mechanics, like attacking only when the octopus's eye is open and the wind changing the arrow keys. When I did a blind run, I will say that the single arrow in a purple blob was a bit confusing and I got hit every time as I was expecting another button prompt from the enemy. While the audio during the storytelling is nice and clear, I felt like the audio for the commands could be a little clearer. Nevertheless, I managed to make it all the way to the dragon and enjoyed getting there and I think it's a great battle that brings it all together and I appreciate that when I died that I was able to restart from the same point.  Another suggestion if you wish to continue working on the game is instead of saying 'Knight 3, Enemy 3', consider saying 'Knight has 3 health and Enemy has 6 health' to make it clearer what the numbers represent for someone that can't see the hearts. I don't think I said but I love the artwork and with it being big and bold, it's great for low vision people too. Hope I don't come across as too critical, I genuinely think you have an excellent game and is a favourite so far from what I have played
