Amazing atmosphere, music, and writing! The visuals added nicely to the atmosphere, too.
My main suggestion is that there needs to be better indication that you can interact with something. Even playing with sight, I couldn't tell what I could interact with, so I was just wandering around pressing A at random. A subtle sound effect to indicate that a piece of dialogue has finished would be nice, too.
I wish I had time to say more, but I'm rushing to rate as many entries as I can. Very nice work!
The story and atmosphere were great, I enjoyed discovering the story of the ship and its crew. The music, both the original compositions and using public domain tracks to fit the atmosphere, worked really well. For some reason playing on Windows the rate and volume sliders didn't quite workright - the volume I could adjust only from 10% to 50% so the voice ended up being very quiet, while the rate slider actually controlled the voice pitch without effecting the rate. But that didn't detract from the experience much because the atmosphere and story still made it worthwhile.
That was incredible. The only thing that would help, besides the cut content, is to either be able to listen to the soundtrack, or in the case of the record player, learn the names of the songs so they could be looked up. I'd love to hear these in full and it'd give a fun external thing to do. I don't know what you're planning next, but are we going to get to fly the ship or is that too expansive, will it be extra crew members instead?
Thank you, jukesy1992, I'm so happy you appreciate the music! The names of the old recordings featured in the gramophone room are listed in the very end of the submission page under "Attribution". And I'm thinking of making the OST available
I uploaded the soundtrack to Soundcloud: https://on.soundcloud.com/PacWAGdcnDfHtzRA8
Great submission!
Like others, I found myself spamming at certain parts to find areas / items, but I did love the fact that the audio cues were very much "part of the scenery". I also immediately lowered the volume, and like others found that the speech rate didn't seem to be impacted by the options.
Overall, movement and interactions here were pretty straight-forward, the story was good, and while this is similar in nature to a lot of the other "explore and find things" type of games, I do appreciate how it all came together.
This was a great story that gives you a moment to think and feel about the characters. The gameplay was mostly intuitive with the only real issue being that it was a bit difficult to know where I was or when something was interactable. I spammed the action button to find doors and the items to pick up.
Also the end of the game would have been nice to be moved to a credits scene or end screen just so you actually know the game is over. I researched the rooms thinking I missed something.
This was a fun short romp of a story and was good for a jam entry. One nitpick I have about the audio is the mixing and leveling is really off without tweaking the volume sliders. It may help to bring your audio into audacity and normalize the volumes. Typically voices are normalized to around -6db while music is around -16 to -20db and sound effects range between -11 to -15db. Playing around with this values can help unify the audio of your game and help keep the balancing nice. (it's also fairly fast to do once you learn how to do it.)
Overall, this was a good time, thanks for sharing your game!
Excellent submission. I loved the writing, sound design, and visuals, playing it through the end. I did notice that the volume and rate sliders for the text-to-speech weren’t working, so it was a little too slow and quiet for my liking. Perhaps I might add an option for a sound or haptic that plays when you walk by an interactive object, as I found myself spamming the interact button at times. Nice work!
Glad you enjoyed our game!
The volume and rate sliders dont work for me either, I think its because I use a custom synthesizer (piper library). The rate and volume controls in my OS screenreader settings dont work either. Its actually too loud for me. Do you have a similar setup?
There should be a sound playing when you pass an interactive object. Haptic feedback (controller rumble?) could be a fun addition!
Great sound design, magnificent music, sad but touching history. Thank you. It is a pity that the game is so short.
Thank you for this comment, I'm really glad to hear those elements of the game were effective for you! :') I also would like to see the game be a little longer, hoping our team has time to implement some cool cut content and you can come back for another round!!
The new Mac version still crashes after showing the Godot logo.
Thanks for trying. I have really no idea why and I dont have a mac, so I dont think I can fix this :(
Love the music! if you ever decided to expand the depth and story, I would be curious to check it out.
Thank you so much! Continued development is on the table 😄
That was a heartwarming experience! I'm in love with the soundtrack
Thank you for playing! So happy you enjoyed the music and the experience 😄
