Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
7 day Forest is based on dreams of leaving behind traces of our existence. Rather than competing, players tend to a shared forest where actions--digging soil, planting seeds, and watering others' plants--leave behind an act of care for wanderers they won't meet. We dream of transforming the language of games from taking to giving, from fighting to nurturing. Each player leaves behind a permanent change in our shared world that outlasts any person.
By every cycle's end, the forests become mementos of collective care that players, both old and new, can return to explore--walking through canopies that flourished in some and fading vegetation that struggled in others. Through this gentle, reflective simulation, players discover that the deepest connections aren't made through big gestures but through small acts of caring for something larger than ourselves. We believe that "a society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."
7 day Forest incorporates generosity with multiple forms: to ourselves through mindful, meditative gameplay that invites us to be present; to invisible collaborators through patiently nurturing their plants; and to future players who will inherit the forests we've grown together. There's a lot of meaning in knowing your small acts, along with others, will create something none of us could build alone. After all, in caring for our shared world, we learn to see ourselves in others and others in ourselves.

This is a beautiful game! I love the idea of collaboratively creating and nurturing a space with other players, where each action taken is documented and remembered. Each forest is a time capsule of the many small acts that added up to a meaningful whole, encouraging us not to take for granted the people (and other living things) around us. The sounds and music were quite calming. I think the ability to make the player sit and see the forest from different camera angles would enhance the experience. The limited color palette is very effective and pleasing to look at, but I think having the background + lighting color change dynamically with the time of day would be interesting to experience the forest in a different atmosphere. Having energy slowly replenish throughout the day instead of once per day would pair nicely with a sort of day/night cycle as well, so the player has a reason to check back more often.
Thanks for all your feedback - these are very natural extensions of the design space going forward for this game
Hello Chris and gang! Truly enjoyed returning to the game again and again, I wish I had more opportunities to do so but alas, a busy schedule.
I'm kind of hoping you'll keep the server running for a continuous community effort in more and more stages. Being able to see other's changes to the world live is really fun!
I did feel like the world was quite small, which is great for the scope of this game jam, but for a bigger release I'd love to see a bigger map, maybe even something where players spawn at different points and expand their efforts outward, connecting with each other and tending to each other's spaces. There's other refinement options which aren't necessary at all but I thought I'd mention: Expanding flora and making them species specific for an educational opportunity and/or adding fauna - birds, deer, etc. depending on different flora levels unlocked. Say a community managed to grow forest, there's animals showing up depending on the size!
One thing I also thought of is that I can see this easily displayed in an art gallery - not just with a video game focus. I've recently visited an exhibition about dirt and it had a lot of themes of nature, preservation, nurture, sustainability and community - this game would've fit right in! It's quick and simple enough for people to easily engage with it in an exhibition setting and there could be a QR code for people to be able to continue accessing the game outside of the exhibition. I'd definitely take this game to art opportunities/awards outside of the games industry because its accessibility and message makes it really versatile and playable by a wide audience, not just gamers.
I really hope to see you expand this one, I think it'll be a refreshing experience for a lot of people :)
Thank you RatPrince - you gave us a lot of branches we can veer off to in the near future. The art exhibit is a great idea!
This has to be one of the best takes on the theme that I have played by far. The fact that this is a live game and you can hear other players accomplishing tasks in real time has me over the moon. And not only are you hearing them, but you get to read the names of each individual that helped to nurture and grow different parts of the forest. The tutorial made this process seamless, and I was completely immersed into this world. You made the gameplay so engaging and minimal, that all you have to do is just a few tasks here and there, but the impact is so grand, and the design intentionally makes you want to play every day so that you can keep contributing towards the community board. This is excellent!
Thank you Daniel!
I liked the art style and the perspective on the theme - generosity. Simple mechanics and subtle things make this game beautiful. But somewhere, I don't think I can say this is a 100% game; it's more of an experience for the player, and there is not much to do as well. Overall, you've put a lot of effort which makes this amazing!
thanks for playing!
One of my favorite games of this gamejam! I have been wanting to play it for a while and finally got time. This game really follows well the theme in so many levels. Very pretty, and the gameplay is just wholesome! We are all connected and growing together a beautiful forest :) Would love to see what you do next!!
awww thank you so much! from a fellow forest to another :D even across different games, we're all indeed connected!
Thank you Aurora and likewise (:
You perfectly nailed the theme. This is it, no strict "winning" or "losing" incentive. Just the niceness of caring together about something and seeing how cooperation makes a more beautiful world.
thank you for playing!! and yeah! we've wanted to focus our games on community building and so happy people are noticing that :D
Really cool idea especially for a jam where everyone is gonna be playing each other's games haha :) Fits the theme well and I dig the feeling of community vibe from it!
thank you for playing!! community vibe is exactly what we're going for!
The game has a lively vibe/atmostphere and phenomenol art. I love the idea of invisible strangers growing a garden together. Its brings a sense of community without the hustle and bustle of seeing other people in your world. (It reminds me of the option to turn off other players in large minecraft servers.) I almost wonder if this could be expanded and made into some social experiment. If people could also destory, would they choose to destroy or create? I would just like the option to be able to rotate the camera to the other angle so we can see the layers more clearly. I feel like large trees can end up blocking the back and plus some people only plant towards the front and not towards the back. The OCD in me needs some organization. Overall though, great vibe, great music, great sounds. I love the little zoom in effect when you interact with things, it's perfect.
yeah the camera rotation is on the books for us for sure :D love the social experiment idea! thank you so much for playing!
Thanks jay - some really nice feedback here!
Great look and really fits the theme of the jam. It is great to come back every day and watch the forest grow
Thank you Michael!
What a pretty game and a simple joy. It was very peaceful and the sound design was spot on
thank you for playing!
The art style is very unique, and the sound design is beautiful!
thank you!
You're welcome!
This game was very impressive, especially for a game jam with the features & end-to-end player experience. After becoming familiar with the core gameplay, I began to explore the latest level, seeing the contributions of the previous players. To exhaust my remaining energy for the day, I settled on assisting with other peoples' gardens, & starting my own. I plan to log in the next day to see any changes in the level I was in, or to check out other levels.
I will be looking forward to what you & your team makes next. Some feedback:
Congrats!
thank you for playing!! and yesss come back and the forest will be waiting for you ;)
Thanks frENETxK and everyone else who gave us their feedback - these things are extremely valuable. It's good most of these improvements are my domain - so much improvements to look forward to!
This is a pretty cool concept. I can see myself coming back to see how things are in the garden :) I fumbled around a bit and the game itself is pretty bright, so my eyes got a little tired, so the stamina limitation comes in handy.
Overall, very cool implementation of the theme! Great job!
thank you!
Reposting here for visibility as I originally commented on the game page itself:
I just played a full day and I'm impressed! I haven't actually played a lot of cozy/farming games so maybe take this with a grain of salt but I feel there's really something special here.
The beautiful art, soothing UI sounds and relaxing music flow so well together. I really like the minimalistic approach that they all seem to share. They definitively bring the gameplay together, even playing for just a day I felt very satisfied.
The first couple of minutes playing I was a bit lost, but after reading all the popup tutorials and finally realizing that I wasn't able to perform an action in a square if I was far away from it it all clicked - at first I thought the red circle meant that no action was available on that square, not that I was too far to perform it.
There's potential here. I could see some people would love to play a larger version of this on Switch to wind down at the end of the day, and the communal aspect would be the cherry on top!
Congrats!
awww thank you for playing!! yeah there's definitely some UI tweaks we want to make post-jam, and we're still thinking about what form 7 Day Forest would take after as well~ so stay tuned~~
You guys made a beautiful and engaging game with such a lovely art and character animation
Great job!!!
thank you!
Wow, I really like the art style. the character animation is cool, and the tools on the belt are a great detail. The camera movement during fast running feels really good, and overall the game is relaxing.
If I had one suggestion, it would be about the red circle, it feels a bit off compared to the rest of the color palette. Maybe making it an outline circle or adjusting it to a slightly pinkish red could help it blend in better. Just a suggestion!
GG 🎉
ohhh good call! i can see how the red is a bit aggressive, noted! thank you for playing
An experience like r/place with thoughtfulness and care. I enjoy how players are introduced to this experience with small quests to unlock new features! How big could a 7 day garden get? What kind of art could be made and maintained? These are questions that the community would need to answer. I hope this game can grow its playerbase the same way it grows its plants :D
hahaha we hope so too!!
Very cool idea. This is the kind of player interactivity I wish I had incorporated into my game, I think it's the most effective way to convey a message of generosity, to encourage the player themselves to be generous in a way that will actually have an effect on other players somehow. This is my second day coming back to the game, and I spent it just watering the plants of others which had decayed.
The visuals are similarly simple yet effective. The shapes, flat colors, and off-white background give me a feeling like I'm looking at an art exhibition in a museum, like I'm playing a Bauhaus painting.
thank you so much for playing!! i'm sure our artiste would love your feedback about his art <3
Hi all!
The Garden of Words has officially concluded, and the new one, Forest of Dreams, has sprung to life. The new forest also needs your nurture!
(You can still walk around Garden of Words in the "Explore past forests" section)
And check out our dev log about it here :)

A niceee complete game. One of the reallllly bext way to implement the theme. I would definitely come back to play this again everyday haha, to build a forest.
The art and the gameplay is very well presented, an example of how minimal can create a huge impact if implemented correctly. I really enjoyed playing this. There’s definitely a replayability value for this. If you ever decide to work on it or release it on web, that would be amazing.
Overall, my mossssttt favorite of them all submissions. Greattt job!
awww thank you so much for playing!!
