Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
The Weight of Threads explores generosity as quiet, voluntary care. Players use limited threads to mend a broken world, not for rewards, but to leave warmth behind for others. Through stitched objects and shared messages, the game invites reflection on what we give, what we choose to heal, and how small acts connect us across time.

Note: Please use the graphics settings (in game) if it is heavy for you.

The ambition of this open world artistic expression is moving, but the gameplay and lack of interactable elements is less moving. I clicked too fast and missed the opening narrated scene, so my first gameplay experience was directionless. There is a lot of poetic expression, and I think it should be narrated with the words below the center of the screen. I also lost the sound ambiance (perhaps it didn't loop?)

I don't mind the absence of guidance as you roam freely, but I would encourage you to find moments to express meaning beyond words. I want to fly in this world. I want to see movement. A world this colorful needs to be alive (or it needs to show where it isn't). I want to see how I made a difference going from place to place.

Loving the unique textures/shader on everything! Felt a little directionless and for some reason the sound didn't work for me (might've been because my antivirus kept trying to scan the file while running). I might be wrong but the game doesn't seem to save progress and I've quit out to main menu by accident when trying to find a volume setting for my sound issue - which reset the game back to the start. That's just a minor thing of making a couple more UI elements, maybe asking the player if they're sure about exiting and/or perhaps a progress save function.
Since the game is fairly short, maybe the lack of save can also be used intentionally, making the poetry you create rather fleeting - aiding to the "appreciating in the moment" kind of feel.

I did also feel a little directionless after the station, but was able to find a couple of items and filled my notebook. A little bit more context could definitely help the narrative but the concept of mending objects and memories with thread is very poetic and definitely worth exploring further!

Beautiful shader!! I think this game is very cozy. It feels like you're inside a sketchbook!  The concept of being connected by threads and representing people and connection with clothes is so pretty

A vibrant kingdom with many hills. Mending items whilst leaving notes within is an interesting idea, but the notes created are difficult to read due to their position, especially from behind.

I really like the visuals and the openness of the game! Though, there wasn't much direction and I got lost a few times. I understood that you are able to fix up clothes with yarn at the beginning, but then I just wandered and didn't progress much after.

heya Chris here-

I was really pulled in with the strong intro and just the visual style that you imbued within the game. It's very clear that you have a strong technical + artistic background--I admired the whole train sequence so much! In addition, the train station opening was just so wonderful--it made me all jittery inside that maybe this is the anime-esque game that shines bright within the jam.

I thought that the map, though always sculpted with a visible landmark to lead the eye, feels a bit empty of things to do. Maybe it's the details that even the doors possessed, but coming into the village, I had an impression that at least I was going to use my Jump to enter an area that is inaccessible otherwise--just because that's what the gameplay mechanic is communicating to me (3rd person character with walking and jumping). This same thread is carried out across the environment. There was a bug at the end (bell tower), where the 2 out of 4 of dialogue choices were identical as well.

Wonderful, gorgeous job for the jammy!

so much love, attention and care given to the shaders - that's what immediately catches your eye! i did wish there was a little more psychological guidance though; but i think a few were able to navigate?

your tremendous efforts show, and as a solo developer; you should be so proud!

No, I agree that I should’ve added more gameplay elements. I had to remove a lot of things as my project size was 200mb more than the upload limit of itchio.

Lessons learned about the scope and optimization of the game. xD

Thank you for playing!!

Visually strong, very clear style and direction. My thoughts reflect others who've commented on this page in that there would be many parts that I explored but didn't trigger any dialogue. More elements to the exploration would have been nice - or to limit the traversal areas and guide the player down more through the world.

Audio-wise, for an open world game, it would have been nice to delve into some spatial audio to place different types of ambience throughout the level. It was especially tiring to listen to a wash / white noise for most of the beginning area of the game. Great work nonetheless!

Thank you for playing my game and for the feedback! :D

Wow such a surreal experience, I felt like i was in the sketchbook diary of a person, and going around to peek the feelings they have written.
I don't really know what to do other than roaming around the area, I hope there's more clear objective or direction. But nonetheless, it is such a good experience playing this ❤️

The intro was so beautiful & immersive! I wouldn't mind being forced to sit through it at all (removing the skip button). Visually, I felt there was a lot going on with many different elements, and yet still wished there were more to interact and explore as you walk along. It took some time to figure out where to go after the first mend, especially since I kept getting side tracked by the other stuff and needing to spend a lot of time walking back. Unique idea, I believe with more guidance and design, this could be even better ^^

Developer

Thank you for playing and the feedback!! I will try to work on it more and add some more gameplay elements to populate the world.

The art style was very well made; it was unique and bright. Was there no music or sound to this game? I wasn't sure if it was my PC or my anti-virus messing the system because it was such a large file (1GB+) to scan or something. Overall, it was an interesting concept interacting through objects that have memories tied to them. It's a well-crafted huge world waiting to be populated! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for playing my game!

I did have some troubles with the project size which was causing some issues with the build, maybe that’s why.

There is music in the menu, opening cinematic and nature sounds during gameplay. You couldn’t hear any? Here’s a YT link to my opening cinematic, if you wnna check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eELHv2KoZA4

thanks for sharing that video. The audio is great! I'm kinda disappointed now that my rig skipped that. I blame Norton lol. Also don't let people skip (except if they already saw it) that part especially if there's great audio and you guys worked hard on it. Thanks for sharing that video so I'll be able to appreciate the talent and hardworking behind your amazing audio

I really love the combination of the realistic light and the architecture plan aesthetic. It brings a unique character to the game and it makes it to stand out! I am not sure how many threads are there to mend, but I only found 3. Lovely, sweet concept. Great job!! :)

A bug I encountered: I was at the highest peak near the bell tower, and I jumped in the water, and I was walking on it heh , and I couldn't go back.

Developer

Thank youuu! I couldn’t add a blocking volume at that location, that was the last part of the game. I’m glad you liked it. I will be updating these changes soon and adding a new build after thisss!

A very beautiful and polished game! I loved the concept and the interpretation of the theme. The atmosphere is great and the visuals are unique. The game didn’t run smoothly on my device, but the experience was definitely worth it.

Thank you for playing!!

Some meshes do not match the background sometimes, but visuals is still very beautiful and atmosphere is very good.

Developer

Yes, I had trouble setting meshes with this shader, I guess it will take a longer time than this for me able to try and find some good ones.

Thank you for playing my game!

I love the atmosphere you've created. I hope the gameplay can be more clear, it took me a little while to figure out what to do.

Developer

Thank you for playing my game!! Yes, I will update the game to a better version after this jam.

Both the looks and concepts in this game are very unique and enjoyable. My laptop did struggle a little to render it but it was well worth it.

Thanksss a lottt! My next goal is to learn optimization for a shipping build.😌😂

Really beautiful polished game style! I love the concept and the interpretation of the theme! The game didn't run super well on my computer but that might have been on my end. Overall really lovely game!

Developer

Thank you so much!!!

I tried my best with optimizing the graphics. I gotta learn more on how to do it properly.

The idea of creating your own story in this beautifully designed world appeals to me. I like that I could walk on water for a brief period :P

Developer

Omg! I thought I added blocking volume to everything lol. I had a nice water system but because of my project size, I had to replace it with a plane with water material applied to it last moment.

But thank you for playing my game!

Love the color palette of the game, really good shader and level design.

Developer

Thank you so much, I definitely dint wanna compromise on the visuals haha.

The game is very beautifully stylized, the environment feels cozy. The world is vast, I have wandered around for quite a while and still haven’t explored many places.

I would love to see if stitch objects are more obvious and guided towards – sometimes I am not sure if something is interactable. It would also be nice if there are things for the players to do in the beautiful environment.

Overall, very pretty and cozy game. Good job!

Developer

Hey! Thank you for playing my game.

I should’ve definitely added something to guide the players to the next location but because of the size of my project, I couldn’t. I totally underestimated it. :”))
