Creative Vision / Rationale / How Did You Incorporate the Theme
Based on the old European folk story of stone soup, you are responsible for bringing the village together to share a meal with. Every villager is unique and has something to give, whether it's an ingredient or a service to make it better.
I also wanted to make a 3D game where everything is actually a 2D silhouette.

This game definitely packs a punch. I'm not sure how to progress past the dark section, but despite that, this game is bursting with creativity and intrigue. It may be one of the most unique games I've seen come from this jam. The way the keybinds were communicated was so ingenious and beautiful. I've never seen anything like this game and I would love to see more! Great work!
After you press F to finish, walk back to the house and press E. You should try to reach the last day, the ending is worth it!
I ended up finishing the game and let me first say: I had no idea this was made by a single person that is genuinely so insane to me. You're incredibly talented. I was thinking that some aspects of the game were lacking but it makes perfect sense when there is only one person doing EVERYTHING. You're incredible! The game was cute and I liked it a lot. I'm a little confused on the ending and the gameplay did get a little monotonous but again you're just one person and what you were able to achieve was so so cool. The loop back to the title screen was so expertly done. And even though I didn't totally get the story, I got the gist and I think it is beautiful! Definitely check out our game if you're looking for something to do in the last hours of the jam! Really great work!
I'll check out your game! I just played a 3D game with a grappling mechanic (The Giving Well), might interest you.
Thanks for the feedback and praise! There's always room to improve, and I'll work on telling a clearer story in the way it was meant to be told.
I look forward to it! Thank you in advance for playing our game and thank you for the giving well recommendation! I'm going to play it right now!
I see so much potential with your signature visuals, LOVE the focus on simplicity with depth, you have chosen an intuitive story for conveying generosity - but I did not know what to do after the very first interaction? I got the carrot! How does it become the next day again? (sorryyy if I am missing the obvious). But I really liked how you tied the instructions for the keybindings to a letter from that word - clearly you wanted to make the onboarding as smooth as possible!
Ahh I had read this particular folklore as a child, and it had really captured my imagination - so I am happy about that toooo. Also I am sure you already understand how to make it better, Kitty!
Walk back to the house and press E to end the day. I have added a guidance arrow in the next build.
If you have 10 minutes to spare, you can make it to the last day!
heyy I reached the last day but everything looked empty so I ended up being confused again! now I really have to go, but I do have to say this: there is a risk that this game becomes monotonous; but at the same time, there was quite a bit of charm - because these are shaders applied on 3d objects, the animations felt so fluid, it felt like poetry; I loved that!
Did you reach the soup pot?
Sorry you ran out of time! You'll understand how the ending relates to that concept. I hope you have a chance to experience it someday!
I'll definitely play it when I get timeeee! I love the originality of presentation, and I'm sure you've paid attention to progression
The use of shaders is so creative! I absolutely love the idea of characters being simple silhouettes with only their unique features sticking out that distinguishes them from each other. My team did a similar thing in our entry so it was fun to see it here too! The gameplay itself is very simple yet endearing. It perfectly captures the theme of generosity and how the NPC townsfolk contribute to the soup. It would have been nice having a little more to do during the day aside from just making soup (maybe being able to interact with the villagers?), but it's fine as is. Also love me some games based on folk stories, so bonus points for that~ Overall, great work!
Soup! Really cool way of using shaders and I also liked the way you could have the background appear and disappear with W - adding to the minimalistic design, being able to strip away the background when handing out soup or watch the village when stirring. I didn't catch anyone phase in or out either so the NPC existence feels really organic. I know the tasting mech has already been addressed. And your soundtrack is dynamic between day/night and other phases, which is very cool! I did nearly stop before the last day (I suppose no context incentive + not knowing how much of a "sit down" game it is, I guess? But I'm aware there's stuff you didn't add due to time) because I had no idea how much longer it would go on but I'm glad I did press on for the delicious sounding ending :)
Was there also some kind of plan with the fire place next to the soup pot that the NPCs built a couple days in?
I do also appreciate the different movements assigned to each NPC, I really like the one that swings from side to side happily. Oh and the intuitive visual design of what button for which available action press is smart as well!
Thank you for your detailed feedback! The fireplace is supposed to be lit on Day 4, but I accidentally messed up the villager's routine by making him follow a faster villager before going to light the fire. This is fixed in the next build.
I will admit that days 3-5 did not have developed villager routines because I added them 6 hours before the deadline. There are several moments I could've added to make them stand out, but I chose to put more time into polishing the ending and the general gameplay loop. I also wanted to add a day 6 but decided it would make the experience too slow. Glad you stuck it out till the end!
such a lovely sweet game with innovative art :) Filled my heart with warmth just like soup does :)
I love that you actually created 3d assets but we just only see their silhouette. The ui pop ups fit perfectly with the rest of the art as well, I love that is hand written. Very cute :) The end scene omg is great, made me feel whole. And I love that it circles back to the start.
If you will continue to make these type of art in games it would be nice to look more into antialiasing since I noticed that the lines where a bit jagged sometimes. I don't know if you used such techniques, and i know it's hard to make it perfect. I also didn't understand the testing mechanics. In the beginning I thought I need that ingredient and I have to find it somewhere. Eventually I noticed that when you taste it's just pops the last ingredient I was offered. I don't know if I understood it right :)
Your game is one of my favorites :) Well done!
Thank you for trying my soup! I'll admit I need to work on my understanding of shaders before I can improve anything there. You were right in that the soup thoughts were supposed to be related to needs, but I didn't have time to implement that logic so I just made it pick a random ingredient in the pot.
Thanks again for your feedback. Let me know if you'd like to collab or talk about games! I sent you an email :)
I will be happy to! :) I haven't received your email though :(
Hmm, I did send it... maybe it was flagged as spam? No worries, I'll add you on LinkedIn.
Extremely compelling visual style! Hope you keep pushing the envelope with this. The village felt very much alive with all the activities. Just some things I noticed that might be unintended:
-Pressing F changes the music filter, breaking a bit of the immersion because it felt disruptive.
-Pressing E to end day twice advances Day 1 to Day 3.
-It took me a bit of time to realize that changing the color to Dark meant I had to walk back to the house and end the day manually.
Overall, I had a good time!
Thanks for the encouragement and the attention to detail!
I was able to fix these issues plus a few more immersion-breaking bugs, and I plan to continue working on this game after the jam finishes. I got about 90% of what I wanted implemented here, but there's certainly a lot of room for this to grow!
A bold artistic vision has been clearly executed, and with such style. An overwhelming warmth emanates from this creation. The village folk, with their incredible unrelenting sway. The protagonist, a culinary expert, never forgetting to taste their work. The soundtrack, its harmonies ebbing in and out, never quite settling in one place. And the object in the sky, waiting to feel Soup’s love, like all who indulge.
You have created beauty itself.
Very artistic, I especially love the swell of the music as the ingredients are flowing into a sort of tornado at the end, simple but well done!
WOAH! Totally didn't know what to expect when I loaded into this game, but I was blown away by how such simple lines could create such a world and experience. Super neat, warming people's hearts with a good ol bowl of SOUP!
OH MY GOD, This is one of the most incredible games, design and development wise I've seen. It's so strong on design hueristics, it's crazy. So simple wow, I'm really impressed, pleease add me on discord and let's make games @zhuhu
Its very simple yet really fun. Great way to express the theme and the character's walks made me laugh!
SOUP!!!!!!!!
Soup
Really cool shader work! I love you incorporated the story of the stone soup, that's one I heard a couple of time growing up.
I like the idea of making 2d silhouette with 3D it looks interesting!! I think the best part for me is the concept of everybody giving something for the soup!! It really is wholesome :)
The simplicity of this game is very endearing. The ending is beautiful, and each character is so unique and goofy. How you communicate the key binds is fantastic, super intuitive. The only thing that confused me for a second was the color shift to night. When I looked up at the sky, the sun was in the same spot. I didn't realize until I walked back to the house that I could end the day. Otherwise, fabulous!
Loveeee this style so much! Such a cool style and really matches the mechanics fantastically! Really great job!!!
Super cool idea, very cool execution! I was super into the artistic approach, and I think the ending really was very very cool. Nicely done!
The feeling this game gave me are crazy, it is so well done. Thank you so much
Soup is, both in its gameplay and its aesthetic, simple but by no means boring. The whimsical outlines of villagers move clumsily and gracefully at the same time. Giving the player the ability to look at the sky, to stir and taste the soup, are so mechanically minimal, yet add so much to the experience. The soundtrack ties it all together so nicely, and the ending is beautiful. Projects like this elevate the medium of video games from entertainment to art.
This is a touching review, thank you for recognizing the art I have created. I still have much to learn!
