Really fun game! Had a great time trying it.
Awesome game! It is impressive that this was made within 72 hours. 👍
This was the most intentionally glitchy game I've played so far.
Sorry for getting to the rating + comment this late- but still hope the stuff I said live stuck.
I also still owe you the itch page review as that was 50X'ing at the time :D
Thanks Quinten!
Was really nice to have you play and give feedback :) Also, I appreciate the legendary hackermode to get the game running in the circumstances. I'll definitely hop by the stream before the jam ends 🌟
Totally got the Quake vibes, you guys nailed it!
The post-death damage made me chuckle, smooth gameplay too, especially for a 72hr jam. Great stuff!
Really cool how you managed to get that old-school FPS vibe going in such a short time. The movement feels good and the chaotic visuals definitely give it personality. With some tweaks to level flow and making melee more impactful this could be even stronger, but as it is it’s already a blast to play.
Nice game! I don't play many FPS, so I may not have been the intended audience for this, but I found the game fun to play anyway.
Nice coherent art style, sound design is also cool. Would have liked to see some music though, but maybe that's not what you were going for. Nice visual effects.
On the gameplay side, the core mechanics added some fun twists to the tried and true formula. I do have to say without a crosshairs on the screen, I found it kinda hard to play though, and I found I wasn't using the sword very much.
Pretty solid entry for this jam. Good job!
There's definitely (supposed to be) music in the game. I suppose fmod can be finicky in the browser but you can try again or if you really wanna hear it the download should be fine lmao.
And yeah valid feelings and stuff I'd have liked to improve with more time.
But glad you enjoyed the game regardless, it's nice that even unseasoned player can enjoy the wackiness
For a 3D FPS entered into a 72 hour game jam, this is incredible. It runs smoothly in browser. The gun has great feel. There's a cohesive visual style, a clear vibe and mood, and the upgrades felt meaningful. There's a lot to love here!
The visual effects were a bit too crazy for my eyes. To me, it felt a bit like driving into the sun more than something that would meaningfully affect the way I play. But I get you needed a connection to the theme.
Some other ideas for improvement (and possibly all things you already thought of but just didn't have time to implement):
- Weakspots on enemies (like headshots). While I understand each enemy had different attacks and movements, I generally approach every enemy the same. Run backwards and spam bullets. So having weakspots where you have to get behind them or aim at a certain position would maybe help vary the gameplay a bit.
- I never really found reason to use the sword. Getting close to the mob of enemies chasing me felt like a death wish, but maybe that's a me problem and I was a bit too passive in my playstyle.
- A bit more level design love. I think things like weakspots in enemies would help create more of a reason to use verticality.
All-in-all, this is an incredible achievement. A 3D FPS in 3 days that has good feel is not easy by any means. Well done!
Yeah I was surprised with how it came together in the end, especially after the first couple days of despair feeling like it wasn't going to work lmao.
But driving into the sun is a good way to put it 😅
Personally I love the absolute chaos of trying to even see whats happening but no game is for everyone obviously. I do agree and wish I could've had time to implement more mechanically impactful glitches. As it was by the end of it I had like 4 hours to lock in and implement as many things I could think of to get it where it is 😵💫
Let me tell you it was very stressful having a game idea that basically hinged on whether or not I could come up with and implement enough stuff, but also needing to implement a satisfying like arena shooter base game first before you can even get to the themed part. It was just a lot to tackle, but hey, we like to challenge ourselves and go hard for jams 🥲Even doing 1 a year feels like too much lmao.
And yeah valid feedback and I appreciate it. I was contemplating even implementing the sword at all and I think it's mainly there for vibes. I didn't have time to make melee more balanced or interesting. But there's definitely a way to make it work with some undocumented features like dashing gives you i-frames and deals damages to enemies, plus dashcooldown, plus projectile size/speed up will affect the sword too. Add in vampire abilities and it could be done. I just wish there was more of a reason to I guess besides maybe feeling cool.
I would've liked to add like melee specific enemies and magnetic comboing so you can juggle enemies in the air and stuff plus obviously more melee focused upgrades but yknow, 3 days and all...
Anywayyy thanks for playing and glad you appreciated it even if it burned out your retinas 😂
I really liked the look, I found the enemies a bit chaotic because I'm not used to very frenetic games.
Man what a gem of a game! Reminds me Quake 2 and also feels like it especially the gun aestetics. Sound design was awsome enemi variety was satisfying. Can be made into a full game easily. Light reflections on sword was good looking too. Level design side clearly needs improvement but other than that everything about this game was great and i had fun time playing!
Thanks for the lovely review. There's definitely a lot of quake/quake2 influence :) I wrote the sky shader pretty much as a direct knockoff of the sky in quake 1 :)
i could see that influence clearly and i appreciated that very much :) i would definetly love to recieve a feedback from a talented developer like yourself.
Considering how long the 'level' was a small square with test platforms, its a miracle any level exists😅
I think it all needs improvement but still this is maybe my favorite jam result we've done so far.
This was fun! movement felt nice, gameplay felt like a nice medium pace good job!
This is really good! The gameplay is simple to understand and fun. The effects add a lot of character and theres a good variety. The art is amazing and gives it a great flair. Very impressive
I appreciate it 😵💫
These are the core principles we aim for when trying to make a jam game, so thanks for noticing.
Did you make a game here or? I keep seeing you in comment sections but no game listed 🤔
I did! I did the art on a game called FrameRacers. A couple friends and I worked on it. it just didnt list me on the project for some reason but i am linked on the actual game page so i cant vote submissions sadly. I still want to play a lot of the games and try to support the community. Making games is hard and jams are such an incredible way to express creative art. As a degen gamer im in awe at how these things get made every day and its nice for these pieces of software be appreciated.
Very true and very wholesome. But yeah you just need to be added as an 'admin' on the game page. So you should be able to get whoever set up the page to go edit game -> more -> admins and then you'll be displayed as a contributor and probably be allowed to rate games.
And I shall check out this FrameRacers...
Nice! I like the roguelite elements and the pew-pew. It reminds me of playing Roboquest on Xbox Game Pass. I also liked that I never ran out of dash—I needed all I could get! Great job!
Wow what a cool game. The feeling of the game is broken time by time is sooooo good , i really liked the art and the level design . feels like old retro game on consoles. we need more of these. overall Its the BEST !!!
This game is actually exceptional. Sound design, animations, roguelike elements, the whole shabang. Awesome.
Great graphics style and finished feel!
very cool, the art looks very good! very polished game!
So polished, great work here!
This game goes PLUS ULTRA
