Description
Stride Zero is a (hypothetical) parkour-based gacha game set in a future where all the world's resources suddenly dried up. Nothing can grow, minerals have turned to dirt and stone, and animals stopped breeding. Coincidentally, strange, futuristic packages began to appear around the world.

One thing leads to another (read more on the main project page), and you find yourself leading a group of runners. Your quest? To solve the mystery of the packages, fix the resource shortage, and free the people from the rampant gangs who are abusing their new toys.

Genre: Lo-Fi, Electronic, Dance, Orchestral kinda?

Inspirations: Story/setting is inspired by Path to Nowhere and Mirror's Edge, and music is inspired by Stellar Blade and Blue Archive

Runtime: 5m 42s

Each track was composed in FL Studio using a lot of Kontakt libraries and Serum

- Song Descriptions -
Note: will make more sense lore-wise from reading the story overview (you can read this on the original project page)

A Short Rest:
This is a calm lo-fi song that plays when you first log in to the base to manage your runners and click around on stuff. You can't be running all the time, right? Kick back and rest your legs, you'll have time for action later.

Suspicions:
This song is versatile, and is usually used in the visual-novel-like story segments between levels. It's meant to evoke the feeling of being on the brink of a huge discovery. You're not safe though, as danger could show up at any moment to ruin your revelation. Do you hear the timer?

FIRST ENCOUNTER:
The main fight theme. While using parkour to get to your target, enemies could show up at any point. Your units can fight though, so get to it. This track is more lighthearted, as it's a general battle theme as opposed to a serious story or boss fight. Stakes are lower, but the action is high!

Message from the artist
This is my first time submitting my music to... Anywhere really! Music's been a long-time creative outlet for me and this event was super fun to participate in. Thought I'd have enough gas in the tank for one more, but unfortunately that's just not in the cards this time. Next time though!

:)

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
Between the term "freedom," the cage-like window silhouette, the dove, and the baggy clothing everything screams "apocalyptic Mirror's Edge" to me, and that's what I tried to channel into the story and melodic theming.

wow.. i was loving the soundtrack already with the first two but the last track really did it for me. literally perfect fight music. everything beforehand was so cool too, i especially loved the piano in each of those tracks! this submission is for sure one of my favorites from what ive heard so far. awesome job!!!

Submitted(+1)

i don't even know where to start bc everything here is STRAIGHT UP BANGING holy hell dude!!!! the first two tracks already got me hooked with the piano comp and insane percussive work, then i get hit with the third track and WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! really really digging that groovy gritty bass and super clean mixing on the drums, and then there's the high pitched leads and the groovy piano chords and the overall sound design AAUGH it's just so peak......

phenomenal work dude!!!!! easily at the top of the list for me 😁😁 💗

the small amounts of foley in the background of "Suspicions" really stood out to me... i can thank the nice dynamics of volume, which worked really well! i love the hard-hitting synths that come in partway through to fill in the gaps that were left by the initial motifs.

i had really high hopes for "FIRST ENCOUNTER" after hearing your preview of the track, and i can't help but be drawn to it since i love danceable tracks in general! you did amazingly well with the evolution of the arrangement for the track. overall, the soundtrack is amazing, and would work really well for the videogame concept you envisioned ^o^

Man, this is definately one of my favorite submissions. It fits the theme perfectly in my opinion, not just in story but in  "musical vibes" as well.

Track1: Really nice ambient track. You managed to have it be perfect for background music while not being too repetative, all the while it is a pleasant song. That is not an easy feat I'm sure.

Track 2: It really clearly encapsulates the emotion of searching for mystical answers. Perhaps this is the one I can most imagine in a real videogame setting.

Track 3: This one had me rocking out in my chair. The bass, the melody, everything comes together to make an absolute banger.

Great work!

:]

Wonderful job. The mixing sounds professional and each track has a distinct identity. Also, in my opinion, every song executes its purpose.
"A Short Rest" - serene and relaxed, a perfect fit for some... well, rest between the more intense scenes, creating nice pacing.
"Suspicions" - my personal favourite. It is still relaxed, yet there is so much more tension. The ticking sounds are a nice touch, almost as if there is a bomb which will explode any moment ("You're not safe though, as danger could show up at any moment to ruin your revelation. Do you hear the timer?"). Then the section with short strings brings in that sense of wonder and curiosity. 10/10
"FIRST ENCOUNTER" - as many have already noted, this is a banger. Professional and engaging. Yet, for me personally, it feels a little bit more like a miniboss / boss fight.
You did great!

Your Production and the sounds you used in these is just, fantastic! Really like all the downsampling/bit-crushing stuff especially.

I haven't played either Stellar Blade or Blue Archive, but i could easily feel these fitting in a Yakuza game.

I'm guessing the aggressive drum sounds in Suspicion were from DAMAGE? Might have to get that at some point 😁.

If you're looking to participate in more music jams, the next Impressions music jam starts on the weekend here on itch if you wanna give that a shot: Impressions Composing Jam: Imagination 3

Wow this is fantastic! I'm jealous of your mixing skills, everything sounds so clean! I absolutely love FIRST ENCOUNTER - the bassline is my favourite part, it's so effortlessly complex and fits in with the rest of the track really well. I also love all the little extra flourishes that come in just for a bar or two to make the track that much more dynamic. Will be taking some notes!

Awesome tunes, I love it when osts gradually lull you in to then go ham in your face when the time is right.

Although I'd already been somewhat spoiled of the third track which had been swimming around in my head ever since I heard it in its demo phases.

Epic submission as a whole!

You achieved that feeling of mystery in "Suspicions", the industrial drum fits good but I think it's just a bit too overkill for something that would be played in a visual novel like section. I like the acid bass and the downsampled melody on "FIRST ENCOUNTER", pretty cool.

Submitted(+1)

love the variety of sounds here!  the latter two tracks in particular are so dynamic and have really interesting bass design and synthwork, it's really blood pumping and absolutely fitting for a parkour kind of setting.  really really great!

I accidentally may have chilled really hard to the first song lmao, nearly forgot to read your page because it was so chill.

2nd song is REALLY nice it has a great feel, like something out of zelda or elden ring with those little strings going.

the 3rd song is just PEAK dude

this whole OST is probably like top 3 out of like the 23 that i've heard so far Personally of course, i really fw your music u should definitely submit to more jams or comps or anything.

FIRST ENCOUNTER is probably my pick here! It's quite the fun number you have as part of this EP. I think the snare in your second track, Suspicions, has trouble cutting through the mix and is quite buried in the other melodic and percussive elements, but otherwise, i can see what you were trying to go for. Good work for 48 hours

Wow, that was funky as hell!

Just like you described, these tracks would fit perfectly in a gacha game of sorts, and would fit the each particular situations as well.
Very fun playing, much like others said 'FIRST ENCOUNTER' goes incredibly hard, but even the other tracks have very polished elements which come from the great production you made.

This really is game-ready, could easily see this being played in an actual game!

Great work!

FIRST ENCOUNTER is fantastic, please put this on Spotify.

The bass lines were awesome throughout, they really set the tone for each track.

Awesome work!

Envisioning a PS1 or perhaps GameCube style of Parkour game here, and this soundtrack perfectly captures that vibe. Great use of textures as others have noted, but I also have to compliment the keys in particular; lovely melodies, just the right amount of grit and interesting progressions. The percussion coming in on Suspicions is great! I love some crushed drums. Does a great job pushing the track forward while other secondary and tertiary melodies kind of weave and bob between the beats.

Finally, First Encounter takes the cake for me - this is genuinely incredible. It really reminds me of something I'd hear in Tekken, particularly in the 5 and 7 era. Massive fans of those soundtracks personally so this track will absolutely be going on some kind of playlist. Love the various TB303 acid sequences ripping around the place, and the use of staccato piano to really provide a driving force alongside the kicks does wonders for giving this track character. Love the legato synth feeling as though it is barely tamed and ready to tear off into some sick arpeggio.

Phenomenal work - fits the theme well, perfectly executed on the concept and the music itself is genuinely enjoyable to listen to.

Please make a post if you put this on spotify or youtube music, I will add it to my playlist in 2ms haha
Insanely well done!! :)

But yeah First Encounter goes unreasonably hard ;p

The textures you presented here are fantastic!

I especially liked the instruments you used for the melody in Suspicions!

The changes in First Encounter after the drum breaks were also superb!

This was an incredible submission! Great job!

Developer

Thank you! Suspicions was mostly Kontakt libraries for the strings/piano/melody/percussion, Damage especially has some really great percussion.

Absolute PEAK,  great job! Too bad this is crunchtime, would've really liked to hear more of what could've come out of this :>

Developer

No YOU'RE peak! I'm not really used to finishing so many songs in any amount of time, so I'm definitely gonna try to get some more in next jam! Thank you for the kind words :D

In a world....destroyed by Gacha. The only way to save it...is to roll the gacha...

Really like the style!

The album is pretty good, but OH GOD First Encounter is INSANE!

Amazing work, I have no feedback other than I followed you to keep listening to your next tracks, gosh it's good!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Funnily enough when I first started First Encounter I wasn't really feeling it, but it turned out way better than I thought it would. It was a whole lot of fun to experiment with bass sound design stuff in Serum for this :D
