"A Wall Too Tall" - oh wowzers, we share this chord progression, so you have an automatic like from me! Hahaha. I would suggest working on mixing a little bit, as some parts were a little bit too resonant, I would make a little EQ well, to make it less pronounced. Other than that - good stuff. The feeling is fantastic though, and is pretty unique compared to the more somber compositions that seem to be the majority of submissions.

"What I Deserve" - is uplifting, yet I'd add some variety to make the sound more engaging. As we are supposed to hear the song over and over again ("What I Deserve" plays as he travels through new, unfamiliar places and gets his first taste of hope and the warmth he's been denied for so long). Also, some sections without bells would be nice too, to let our ears rest (I am only speaking of the song if it was for several hours straight). Other than that - good stuff once again!

"A Life Left Behind" - good ending. See how you made it similiar to the "What I Deserve", so this track is technically "What I Deserve, but already achieved", haha. The humming is so warm :)

Overall, good job. Definitely continue creating!

"T H E U N D E R G R O U N D" - groovy! Mixing and mastering are top notch, so you've succeeded at training these aspects, nothing to suggest in this regard. The feeling is generally immersive (I liked that subtle choir, it added a lot of texture and some of that "this is our destiny!" feel).

"T H E M A C H I N E" - This one seems to be fitting for an intensive section, such as a chase or a battle. It sounds rebelious and bold, and those squeaks feel like the patience has ended. I feel like the drums are a little bit too loud, though, speaking of mixing. But great sound, you did good on this one.

"T H E R I O T" - feels very cinematic. It would be fitting for a cutscene of sorts. The chord progression though suggests that some violence is involved... Here, the drums are loud, but that plays in the general feeling of the song, so the mixing is perfect. Then we switch in a sort of "the final confrontation" mode - great job. (That sound at 1:25 though... I recognize it, hahaha.)

"T H E A F T E R M A T H" - feels liberating yet sad. I like how the birds oppose the synths/strings. It shows the beauty of nature(freedom) and that it was always present, yet we were the ones who overlayed it with all of the noise and left ourselves trapped. My headcanon is that the birds were present in every song, yet we only focused on all of the artificial tension, that didn't even matter.

Overall, great mixing and great journey, nothing to add. Take care!

Sounds good. I like the immersive elements, such as the heavy breathing and those creepy sounds. Quite a dark submission, but also a little bit funny one as well with its choir (It may be just me, but they sound... well kind of goofy). As for the compostition and the emotional landscape - fantastic! My favourite one is "Time to Fight Through" - feels like anime, haha.
"The Fight is Done" is serene and "ascension-like", so good joob. (I like those strings around 1:25 - they are cool!).
You did great!

"Unlocked" - perfect execution of the mood, it felt just like you have imagined. (I also like the wobbly brass sounds thrown in sparsely for some reason). The voice caught me off guard a little bit though, hahah, but it was kind of fitting, so cool.

"Freefolks Village" - once again, the feeling is nailed down. I would make the percussion a little bit quieter / in the back though (with reverb; It is great as it is, just a personal preference). Also, I would suggest adding a little bit more sections, to make the track more "dissolved". The ideas are great already, yet they felt like they wanted some more space. As for the general impression, the sound made me see that serene village, where grass is green and everyone is cheerful, hahha. Good job with this one.

"The World Ahead" - oh wowzers, this one is fun. I like the selection of chords, they are so dynamic and feel almost bursting with energy. My favourite track of yours. Yet again, the snares/hats are a bit "in the face". But the emotional landscape is amazing; saving this one to study to learn something new, lol. Wonderful.

Overall, yeah, good stuff. 9.9/10. Game-like, emotional, varied.

Great orchestral piece. I like the palette of emotions your track brings to the table. I would've worked a little bit on making the sounds more clear, as sometimes they feel a little bit muddy. Aside from that - cool dynamics and even more cool emotional journey. Take care.

Yep, 100% opposite approaches. Fascinating. You know what? If you are up to that, we could try to do like two tracks together, I am thrilled to find out how it might turn out, only if you are interested, of course.

Merci pour ce commentaire détaillé, c’est très touchant ! Content de trouver un francophone ici, et à bientôt dans les commentaires de "Freedoms" :)
Bonne nuit !

Thank you for visiting and listening! You've got some great eye for details, hahaha.
On my way to listen to your submission.
Take care!

Hi again!
Yep, we are indeed the opposites, hahaha.
Your production and processing are strong, my respect for that. Everything sounds clean, polished and intentional. But personally, I've felt that something was lacking emotionally.
For example, "scentofthesun" didn’t evoke a clear mood for me. It didn’t feel hopeful, tense, or immersive. I didn’t get the sense of escaping or battling, it felt like it was circling a single initial mood without evolving.
With that said, I also checked out your "post.mortem" project. "Saving your life" is my favourite song of yours, as you've allowed it to just be.
If you are open to suggestions, I would recommend to experiment with other plugins and textures, maybe some orchestral sounds, or perhaps acoustic, whichever feels more interesting to explore, if you are up to that.
Your production IS great, but larger palettes allow us to create some things that were impossible before.
Imagine that any given track is a painting, and that you were trying to paint a sunset, yet you only have blue colors. Sure, you could do that, and I bet that it would be fantastic, because your technique is great.
Then imagine that you've decided to paint a forest... blue again.
It certainly creates some style and grabs attention, but while blue is beautiful, there is still this silent longing too see some burning fire, or fresh grass, or perhaps some dry blood. And you can, your brush strokes are wonderful already.
Obviously, this is just my opinion, but I hope that I was able to convey my impression. You can always reject it too, after all, everyone is different and that is beautiful on its own too.
Overall 9/10 submission, great job!

Hi everyone!

At first, I wanted to start a thread where we could share submissions we felt were good but perhaps didn’t get as much attention. After reading the community guidelines, I’m unsure if that would count as “advertising”, so I didn’t want to break any rules.

I’m still pretty new here, so I would be thankful if someone could clarify whether this kind of thread is okay to make. I’ve come across some amazing tracks and would love to highlight them if it’s allowed.

Thank you for reading this message. Take care!

Hello! Thank you for listening and being honest, I appreciate that, it is really important for our growth!
The guitar part is spot on and I agree with it, I was running out of time and didn't want to ruin the song accidentally, haha.
As for the glass part, it was intentional. The song is about some pretty strong feelings, and those are never quiet or controlled.
It is an assumption, but it appears that we are basically the opposites when it comes to creating music and I find it fascinating! I am now eager to listen to your submission to see if that assumption holds true.
Thank you for your feedback. Take care!

Strong features:
Nailed that Celeste feel.
The mixing quality is fantastic. Every instrument has breathing space and the stereo component is executed nicely.
All these little sounds playing from time to time keep the track engaging, and I find them funky.
Great work with different energy levels, this is definitely your strong side.
It would actually work in a game, so great job!
Some suggestions though:
As it would be a platformer, this means that the song would be played over and over and over again, so I would work with the "loopabillity" a little bit more.
I find the drums a little bit jarring, especially the snare and the hi hat (it starts at 0:37 and never seems to stop, catching the attention of my left ear. Might be just me, but I would either find a bunch of different sfx to vary it a little bit or decrease its amount, so it would not demand that much attention)
I also find the synth (at approx. 1:37) a little bit too high. I would not be able to play through several hours of that.
But that would only be a thing if it was a game, as a singular composition, you did a fantastic job, I've had fun listening to your song.

The variety of textures and feelings is fantastic, and the guitar bits are awesome.
1:56 - adds that little special something, how did you decide to include it?
And 3:31... 3:31 - is easily my favourite section of the whole composition, it sounds wonderfully, and I mean it.
The only thing I have to question is how would this track work in a hypothetical game? Like, a cutscene, a trailer or something else? It is really varied, so maybe it could fit in a lot of places, but it doesn't seem to have any particular alignment, at least from my perspective.
9.5/10. Fabulous submission.

I like the composition, it is very cool. You succeed at conveying the exact emotions as you have planned, so good job in this regard.
Yet, I would advise to work with balancing, as the sounds sometimes clash. Also, starting from 2:56, the song gets a little repetitive imo, especially with the crash, which is demanding too much attention. So, I think that a little bit of mixing and processing would absolutely allow you to create something beautiful, as you already have the ability to invoke specific emotions; and that is a rare skill. Great job.

Red Circle Carnival - Groovy and dapper. It reminds me of "My Favourite Game" a little bit, so that is always welcome. Some potential room for improvement though: the snares feel a little bit separated and really catch attention. Especially starting at 1:11. But other than that, absolute vibe. How did you design this bass? I would love to learn from you, haha. (1:26 moment... it made this track my favourite)

Frenzied Parade (Both variants) - yeah, that is a great idea for the game, keeps things varied and interesting. As for the tracks themselves, well it is obvious that bass is your thing. On-air version's piano is pleasant, and the guitar reminds me of "Vs. Susie" - cool. The modultaions are also doing a great job of keeping that tension high and rising. 10/10

Sign-Off - In my opinion, it fits. Yeah, the instruments are different - so what? Nice rewarding feeling, while also remaining vague enough to make the listener interested in going further. The drums feel a little bit disconnected though, I'd pump up their volume a little.

District of Bells (Both versions) - The bells are great, nice selection of the plugin and writing. I would also rebalance the volumes a little, as the organ seems to be in quite an awkward position. Aside from that, yep - some great music.

Hope I was useful and I would really love to see you improve. The bass is already perfect, definitely use this power to your advantage!
Overall, the tracks are potent and unique, great submission.
(P.s. I am saving "Broadcast Sesh")

The feelings: The song feels cold, but not hostile. I would say that the general emotinal hue is somewhat tragic, like exploring an abandoned place, wishing to break free from its desolation. That, or either deeply philosophical and contemplative thought process. Basically, Celeste + Hollow Knight, so good job there. But, for me, the modulation makes the song feel absolutely chilling and not uplifting, in fact quite the opposite, as if there was a storm approaching. So perhaps something else would work for that mood lift. (Just my opinion. It sounds great - yeah, but I want to give some honest feedback from the listener's position)
The instruments and etc:
Not really much to say, the composition is great, as well as the processing and mixing... so great job, you've got some skill! Very high quality in only 3 hours.
Some of my favourite moments:
0:48 - love that little segment, adds identity and your own little touch.
0:58 - that "ostinato" section is my favourite, very platformer style.
Overall - gud :3

Hi again.
First of all, the strong aspects: Name? Yes.
Melodies? Check. Powerful and memorable. Wonderful job there.
The track has a high looping potential which is quite important for almost any game. It retains its interest well, so good job there too.
I also love the general feeling of a song, it is quite sweet, yet urgent. Warm, yet sometimes as if distant or perhaps even nostalgic? Great variety of colors in shorter terms :)
Some feedback for improvement: While I feel that the synth absolutely can work here, I see why others might have found it jarring: All of the orchestral instruments in your mix have softer sounds and the difference is especially noticeable because of their reverb, lower volume and/or increased attack time. So, to make it meld in more, I'd suggest extending synth's attack period, apllying a little bit of reverb to make it leave a sort of musical glue and perhaps playing with transitions a little bit, as it makes the listener more comfortable and humans love to predict things (Important: sometimes... we do need to surprise them, ahaha)
Overall, thank you for posting the song, I've quite enjoyed it!

Hi, thank you for visiting and wowzers, this is a very in-depth exploration, I am impressed. Thank you for writing down how you've felt, I am happy that I was able to give you a sort of an emotional journey. Hope I wasn't too gloomy and that you weren't too bored to listen through my tracks, as your music knowledge seems quite huge and you are able to pick up patterns well.
As I always say... see you in your comments :)
And thank you once again for being here and caring to leave your impressions.
Have a nice day/night!

Thank you for your comment :3
I admit it, my mixing skills definitely give off that impression of work-in-progress-to-be-upgraded-soon-do-not-question-it-stop-, but at least the glass shattering was intentionaly made to be uncofortable, hahahahahaha.
Hope my story made you feel something new or gave you some fun, as that was my intent.
And I am so glad that you have resonated with the message, that is very sweet.
Soo... see you under your comments.
Thanks for visiting, take care :)

Oh my, this is one of the best comments I've received yet.
Thank you so much for your sincerity and constructive criticism, I will apply these advices in the future. A lot of people are scared to sound too rash or negative, yet we still need honesty to progress, so my respect for doing just that.

As for the chords from "Their Freedom", they are quite simple: Some minor chord + 7 + 9 + 11 ==> a major chord half of a step lower with the same* upper voicings (you will DEFINITELY hear what needs to be lowered, haha. (It is the 9th, by a semitone)). Then just repeat it as much as you want to, but transpose the pattern by a major third down every time. I basically kept going down in big leaps on the circle of fifths, so that it evokes this "dread-like" feeling. (A slow pitch automation might also help, if you are after that specific feeling)

Thank you for listening, reacting and giving honest opinions. You are amazing.

Have fun and see you :)

Thank you so much for listening, reading and writing your impressions - that is a lot of work on its own hahaha, I appreciate it :) (And also it genuinely feels nice to receive feedback, I think you are familiar with that feeling)
I am glad that you have visited my submission.
On my way to yours!
Take care!

Quite lovely.
Intro - triumphant and staight to the point, could be used when entering/loading the game. The flute pedal tone sounds cool imo.
Main theme - sounds like something for a strategic game, I like its vibe! On the other hand, I'd suggest making the drums a little bit louder, that would definitely upgrade the track and give it some more charm. As for the main leitmotif, it is catchy and memorable, so good job with that.
Ending - sounds like closure, so you did that well. The main melody's reprise sounds nostalgic, like we've went through a complete journey and have reached a satisfying final, it felt nice.
Overall: melodies are cool, ideas seem nice, yet mixing and balancing the sounds would elevate your music even higher. Good job!

I see. Well, in my opinion that is absolutely fine too. The tracks are bangers anyway, hahah. Great job :)

Oh wow, the feelings that "Into the Blue" evokes are something else. The instrument choice sells that feeling of being submerjed...
And "Predators" is quite funky too, hehe.
(Btw, the animals which kill dolphins the most go by the name "humans", I find it ironic)

Easily the most funny interpretation of the theme so far for me; and using the jam as an opportunity to fulfill two goals at the same time is clever, hahaha.
My favourite track is "Any Bakers Dozen". I like the intro part with the accelerating tempo, it puts the listener into a "ready to fight" state, and the piano + brass... fantastic.
Overall, I love your take on this, besides, your skills are definitely great. (The use of call and response is top notch)

Hey, you have nothing to be sorry about! You've managed to produce so many cool unique ideas in such a short period of time + under the influence of the external factors as well. And thank you for your advice regarding the SINE player I appreciate it.
(P.s. Additional thanks for giving me some headache with this SCP-esque description of The Game)

Okay, first of all - wow. This is basically some ready-for-publishing ost. Mixing is perfect everywhere. Instruments and the choice of sounds is also very high level.
"Get Us Outta here" gave me a smile (a fellow siren/breakcore track).
"STOP WHERE YOU STAND!"'s melody feels like the Warden is scolding them, hahaha.
"A Quirky Dealer" and "Transmission Control" are my favourite. So groovy and engaging! I love the sound/silence dynamic in each one of them.
Fantastic submission!

(1 edit)

First of all... thank you :)
Secondly, I've seen you in the comments under a lot of submissions and you are quite amazing for really listening to every single one and showing that you care. That is some next level dedication.
See you in your comments, when I listen to your bangers.
Thank you once again, and thank you for being so kind to everyone.
Bisous!

Thank you so much! Sending digital hugs, haha

Thank you for your words, I know that my songs are quite weak in reality (I haven't composed anything in two years, hahaha), but this was so much fun nonetheless. And thank you for finding something nice to say about my tracks. On my way to listen to your submission :)
Have a nice day/night!

(1 edit)

Oh my, this is fantastic. The style, the instruments, everything. I've read through the description and the comments, and I am definitely snatching that SINE player plugin.
"Screw Him" and "Free Time" are so good. So much of that "oof" packed into them. The only issue your songs have is that they end so quickly.
Btw, what does this mean "I just lost the FREAKING GAME"?

Yep. I am not even going to write about THIS in detail, that is how good it is.
(P.s. Если моя гипотеза верна, у нас одинаковые источники вдохновения))

Oh wow, "255" sells the tension. Such a great variety of moods and feelings. The choice of instruments is also interesting. One of the good submissions, great job.
And also, does the choice of "0" and "255" as track names relate in any way to that story about computers?

Seven tracks is insane in such a shord period of time (In a good way). And they all sound good too, I could imagine them being used in an actual game already as they are. "Threat 1" is my personal favourite: different from all the others, yet still reminiscent of the general style.

Quite haunting ;)
Also it succeeds at conveying the general feeling that you have imagined, so that is always cool. Still, I think that some variety would do it wonders, as the track already has some great potential, yet feels a little bit repetitive. Great job nonetheless.

Wonderful job. The mixing sounds professional and each track has a distinct identity. Also, in my opinion, every song executes its purpose.
"A Short Rest" - serene and relaxed, a perfect fit for some... well, rest between the more intense scenes, creating nice pacing.
"Suspicions" - my personal favourite. It is still relaxed, yet there is so much more tension. The ticking sounds are a nice touch, almost as if there is a bomb which will explode any moment ("You're not safe though, as danger could show up at any moment to ruin your revelation. Do you hear the timer?"). Then the section with short strings brings in that sense of wonder and curiosity. 10/10
"FIRST ENCOUNTER" - as many have already noted, this is a banger. Professional and engaging. Yet, for me personally, it feels a little bit more like a miniboss / boss fight.
You did great!

The concept is so cool! "Outside" makes me think of a blood red sky or perhaps a living sea that watches you. The melody is almost cheerful sometimes, yet the bass and distortion make it sound almost mocking.
"Sir crow" is surprisingly funky, it would be interesting to see how such differing themes could fit in one game.
There is one question though: how does it correlate to the theme? I am genuinely curious.
And great job nonetheless!
(P.s. the upload time is hilarious, haha)

Minecraft cave noices.. minecraft cave noices everywhere... and then THAT piece out of nowhere. Yeah, you've nailed it down. I've read through your description, as well as the comments. Considering that this is only your first year in music, you are doing some great progress. Keep up! (Waiting for the "Struggle")

Very cinematic and magical. I like the choice of instruments and the chord progressions are top notch. I can totally see the cutscene in my head: characters standing in the middle of an old enchanted forest, embracing the freedom...
But, what image do you see? I'm interested, haha

Enchanting and original! I like your approach, the sounds interract greatly, and there is space for everyone. Interesting melodies and motifs. A little suggestion though: while the tracks are great on their own, with repetition they kinda become a little bit stuck in one place. Although if that was the original intent - it works. And once again - cool song!
