Yeah I’m super sad about that, technically you could map it to VSTs and it would seemlessly blend their own engine sounds whenever an articulation didn’t exist. It’s such a shame they are discontinuing it now, and to use the 4.5 version and not upgrade to the 5th because of that!

Heyaaaaa!!! yeah had internet issues, I had planned "for sure" the love song in between the two combat ones using the title theme in a more straighforward manner than I did on the others, but unfortunately when I saw how long it took to upload just Eryndor's I was like welp... this is as much as I get I'll get in x_x
Thanks for the super nice comment I really appreciate it!
Yeah you know I had those issues with internet and was supposed to use the title theme in the love song in between the combat tracks and was like yeah that's unfortunately not gonna happen.... it took me 5 tries of 30 minutes each to upload Eryndor's x_x
Choir is pretty great, I thinkg it's storm ultimate choir if I'm not mistaken <3
Thanks for the comment, I knew I was into something when I decided to do this big Animal Crossing OST!
Finally reaching the end boss, you're the one I created my track n°3 for xD
OK OK you're not lying when you're saying you've grown a ton the past 2 years. I didn't find your other OSTs to be bad like AT ALL, like Desserts on Us! whole OST is goated, but still this OST here is very very impressive composition-wise and you always have a way of making me rock my chair. They're just so full of YOUR personality it's lovely and even left you a comment on Soundcloud as there was one part that felt so damn good to my ears I couldn't not highlight it! Amazing job as always!!
JEYYYYZUUUUS
That's all I have to say gosh this is insanely good. The only actual feedback I can make is not even worth it, since it's about some sharp highs kinda on the edge of hurting on my monitoring headphones, but since it's compressed on purpose that point would be stupid for me to make or even take away even a star. You get flawless scoring my boy xD
ESTEEEEEES
This was such a full ost what a great submission! I just have one very personal feedback I actually wish you could try it lol: the "I can still feel you" kinda drop on the first song, I wanted to be BLOWN by a wall of sound and I think if you had put complete silence for a split second the impact would have been even more satisfying!! Imagine a reversed sharp whoosh just a split second before the silence and then you cranking the volume there blasting us with a wall of sound. But it's a nitpick incredible work!!
PS: I'm always very perceptive of contrast as a former 2d/3d artist major (a loooong time ago), so definitely that little complete silent gap would make such a good contrast!
Ahahahaha thank you!!
So yeah the battle theme is thinner but it was on purpose, first I think that having breath in the mids and high mids would help in a real game situation so not overly pull attention SFX but that was just one thought.
The main reason and why I did it bnefore Eryndor's was I knew I wanted to reused a twisted version of it on the last track, and I think I said that to someone else but it's the same reason I went with this little whimsical passage for the normal battle theme: to get a big enough gap and contrast in body and gravity from the battle theme to Eryndor's Madness. The issue was I had pretty limited internet and the love song was supposed to get between those two tracks, but I gave up when it took 5 tries of more than half an hour to publish Eryndor's track of at the time 40MB...
As for AI, I'm fully with you, I will make sure to start creating something more personal as I'm not a fan either. I usually use both text and picture theme, and this was the first time I didn't follow the picture really, and that made the disparity so big given that my last upload was on the last hour of the jam (huge issues with noteperformer and dorico not exporting for the last 2 days, I just went the easy shitty road.
I'll fix that though thanks for the encouragement <3
Bodooooooo how are you?!!!
Thank you for the very very nice comment and detailed feedback it’s very precious to me.
One thing I keep repeating like a broken record though: I haven’t played FF7 ahahaha
But I’m pretty sure I’ve heard like most people the track somewhere and I guess it just lived in my head rent free for years.
I think it’s also a testament at how »simplistic and unrefined » the ideas that come to me are. I’m not a good musician or composer by any means, but I do have 2 decades of listening to video game music pretty much exclusively and I think it will be hard for me to kinda do crazy creative stuff. I’m aware this might become a problem for future jams too, as in running out of naturally occurring ideas in the car in silence like what happened for this jam (and brilliantly recorded as humming on my phone lol), and just finding out FF13 has their combat theme starting pretty much exactly like it to my biggest despair.
I’m trying to overcome the technical hurdles first, but I’m pretty sure most of the big work ahead for me is finding something that might not be unconsciously ripping other stuff existing and finding a voice for myself!
Thanks again for the great feedback, and sorry for the big wall of text xD
Thank you for the comment, I keep saying that FFX and the souls series are some of my favourite games of all time (FFX first xD) but when I talk about the souls series, even if I love and have all the discography in vinyl and listen to it all the damn time, Bloodborne is my favourite OST of them all to listen to. Its too bad the vinyl is badly pressed but I also bought a very high quality version as flac and it just might be my most listened album every year, I love it to bits and I’m super happy you can hear the reference to it clearly.
Thanks again for the very nice comment and I’m so glad I was able to re-awaken that sweet bloodborne PTSD!!
Hey thank you so much for the great detailed response and I think I got some answers!
First song was really only supposed to be the leitmotiv I would use for the love song and the other tracks that I’m sure you heard with just slight enough modifications so that it wouldn’t feel just like copy paste.
Everyone is telling me about FF7 indeed and someone shared it here and it blew my mind because that’s the one big FF I haven’t played but I’m sure I’ve heard the music somewhere years ago and it stayed, but even funnier is my brother made me listen to the battle theme for 13 (haven’t played any but 8 9 and X, dropped at X-2 because it destroyed everything for me) and actually it’s insane that the melody starts EXACTLY LIKE FF13 it’s not even funny ahaha.
For the « I’m in danger » feeling you’re right, but to me it felt actually too intense actually when I was making it as I kinda showed the progress in the devlog channel, I felt it needed to be combat but still kinda lighthearted in a way because I KNEW I wanted to have Eryndor’s Madness more than everything else in the ost, and I wanted it to be epic and I needed to have enough gap in tension between both since in the middle of the week with every issues of internet I had, I figured that I might not be able to make the love song and I definitely wanted to work on Eryndors track for sure. But I’ll definitely try your recommendation, I look very much up to you as some others in these jams and am pretty sure you’d have made the better call!
For the third song thank you SO MUCH for the pointers!!! For the limitations of the VST I don’t think that’s it for the solo violin and viola, it’s just that they had no processing, as for Ponte Cello, I’m not yet really using the actual techniques in Dorico most of the time because I’m still a big noob but I’ll definitely check it out tomorrow and will try to learn more about that part! So super thanks for those hints!
As for the placement feature there’s a hiccup though as I used NotePerformer 4.5 with their NPPE engine for all the CSS libraries which is most of what you can hear in all tracks and unfortunately I did try to see if I could place stuff but it seems that NotePerformer disables fully the feature which was confirmed I think either on VI-Control or Reddit can’t remember now x_x
But since the new NotePerformer 5 ditches external libraries for good, I’m thinking of creating all the expression maps by hand for CSS and all the other VST I can think that I’ll need for the next jam, because that placement features looked like such a game changer!!
Anyway this is a long-winded way of saying thank you so much for all the detail, I really appreciate it you helping me out with these pointers and will take them to heart for next time. I’m taking a course on mixing as it’s also a big problem I’ve had since OST Jam 07 and hope to improve there too for next time.
love the feedback and I hope we see each other for the next jam, I’ll definitely listen to you tomorrow ❤️
WAY TOO MUCH BRO IM ALL RED!!!!
Thank you so much it means so much to see people enjoying the tracks!! I'll be coming to yours pretty soon can't wait and thank you so much for such a kind comment, I'm really happy with the growth since OST Jam 07 and will definitely use Dorico as I found it to be the perfect app for me with this kind of orchestral music I strive to be doing. Cheers!!
I feel like next time I should stream my absolute messy process lol
I was so mad I barely had internet for 2 weeks and was so bored, this jam came in at the perfect time ahahah
Yeah I really had a blast! Especially Eryndor's Madness where I went WAY over my head but by some miracle it ended up developing to something I really loved, especially at 1:40 I got shivers when I got the sound coming out ahahah, I was experimenting because it wasn't satisfying enough and playing with spreading every instrument a bit more evenly gave it so much body I was like WOW xD
Yeah I started music really and composition and learning a bit of piano on OST Jam 07, and I keep trying to push myself every time, this time it was learning Dorico for this jam and transitioning from Studio One, which surprisingly went really nicely and I don't see myself really returning into studio one unless I do it for mixing.
Thanks for the very nice and warm message it made my day!
Heeeey!!! I remember pond tales it was such a good chiptune ost!
Thank you very much for the kind words, yes between learning Dorico and trying something way more complex, I did try to upskill a bit and I'm happy with the result even though I got so many technical issues during the week, I'm happy with what came out!
Can't wait to hear yours!
yeah Dorico was surprisingly way easier to get into than I first thought, and it actually was easier to compose on there than on studio one, and yeah no the reference is not intentional at all, I’ve been told about ff7 too which is funny as it’s the one big FF in from « my era » that I haven’t played. FFX is my forever game though so there was intentionality in having it sounding like an ff track kind of like the rhythm that’s in a ton of jrpgs, and the last track is definitely the Souls series blended with that FF aesthetic! Thanks again for the very nice comment!!
hey again it’s been a while!!
I managed I guess because I was bored to death since I had very limited slow internet and was bored out of my mind with nothing better to do xDDD
Thank you for the super kind words it makes me super happy to know you liked it. Track 3 was hell to get out and was very much a big step in difficulty for myself, didn’t even know if I would manage to get it out at first, had the ideas but starting to work now on Dorico from Studio was kind of a big leap of faith. But it actually I think helped me more than it was a « hindrance ».
I’ll be coming to your submission soon, I specifically remember your crunch time tracks so I’m looking forward to hearing what new!
And thanks for the encouragements and the vote of confidence, but I’ve heard so many OST out of this world I’ll be happy in the top 100 already ahahah
I keep having that and THE one of the big FF I haven't played ahahahah
I barely played 8, got to third CD of 9 BUT X??? X is the best game ever made for me! But you're right Final Fantasy and Dark Souls are the very big inspirations here!
Thanks for the nice comment and the kind words I really appreciate it!
lupo did so well again.
You music is so extremely unique it's impossible for me to comprehend how you're able to have so many unique ideas and your compositions are like a paw to the face to me trying to learn "classical" orchestral music. Absolutely insane work again.
PS: The whole OST is so damn experimental it's just an amazing journey.
