I love the orchestration here, especially the pitched percussion instruments. There’s an underlying feeling of duty in both tracks which portrays the duty of the excursion well. The foliage was subtle but a nice touch. The solo instruments sometimes sound like they are “out of place” space-wise, I think a little more reverb on them would help them fit into the room more. Good work!

I like the story idea, and you did well in capturing the feelings of transition you wanted to convey. The soundtrack itself was a pleasant listen! There were some cool melodic ideas you explored here. I would look into humanizing the drums more with some velocity variation to make them sound more alive. Nice work!

I loved the music and the write up! The melodies were catchy and your storytelling through the music was fantastic.

One thing I’d consider is more humanization of the instruments, like some velocity changes on the piano. It would make the tracks feel more alive.

Great job!

Yeah, I have no notes. This submission was great. Harmony kept my interest throughout, themes were developed well, and you did awesome with the VRC6. Great work!

This was a very chill listen. I enjoyed the variety of the instrumentation between the two tracks while keeping the motif. I just wish there was more to listen to! Great art as well. Good job!

This is a fun soundtrack! I like the evil carnival vibe of this one with all the chromaticism. You do a good job with dynamic dynamics to make the simple waveforms seem more lively. I would’ve loved to hear more development of the ideas laid out in each track—you do it well in Nulle étoile sans nuit. Nice work!

Loved the chord changes throughout this submission, you definitely nailed an “eerie but energetic vibe” that would be great for your party game idea. You did great with the 8-bit limitations you set. Nice work!

Your hard work paid off here. I loved the flowiness of this soundtrack—your improvisational guitar part in Magic Over The Water helped a lot with that. The only thing I would look into is pushing the climaxes more with added instruments. Great work overall!

P.S. What beer bottle were you using here?

The storytelling was great! I particularly enjoyed the guitar playing, simple yet very effective. I Got This was really cool too. Nice job.

I am scared.

This submission kept surprising me left and right. You’ve done the best job in the storytelling department out of the submissions I’ve listened to thus far. The sound design was great too. Great work!

What a pleasant listen! Loved the vocals, they fit in very nicely. You did a great job with a genre of music you were not experienced in making. The only thing I’ll say that the mix is a little muddy. Cutting the lows on the non-bass instruments would help clear out the clutter. Nice work!

Cool soundtrack! I like how nicely each track transitions to each other, it creates a nice cohesion to the entire soundtrack. The game idea is interesting as well, I appreciated the intricate write up as well. Some more velocity variation for the percussion would’ve made the tracks groove even more. Nice work!

I liked the peaceful vibe! There’s a good foundation here, I would’ve loved to hear more to develop what you have set up here. Nice work.

(1 edit)

There are a lot of moments I love in this submission: the polyrhythms in main melody (I think a chord with a flat 6 in the bass would’ve gone crazy here), the chord changes in the ShoP, the synth on the back half of stardust coast. Also all of Memories. This was a great listen.

I would look into some more reverb for some of the instruments. A lot of them are fighting for the front, right in your face spot in the mix at the moment.

Awesome work!

This is definitely the most interesting submission I’ve listened to! The atmosphere you make with the sound choices put me in like a trance haha. And the accompanying movie was really cool too! I will say on “Let My Sorrow Said It All”, the harsher synths don’t fit with the more emotional vocals. I think a softer synth or even just a high pass filter would work better there. Great job on crafting a project like this!

Thanks!

Thank you!

You did a great job fitting the submission to a JRPG context. I can definitely envision this soundtrack in an actual game. Moonlight Marina was my favorite,  would definitely stop playing for a bit just to listen haha. Great work!

That’s great to hear, thanks for listening!

Thanks!

Loved the 80s instruments/percussion in this one. I think you did well portraying the emotions of a summer night hangout with friends. The sfx helped tie anything together in a story-telling context. Nice work!

Thank you!

You did a great job with instrumentation here. Ambient music sometimes tends to wander aimlessly but you made each track have a “purpose” so to speak. The retro synths were great and the guitar was killer on “Lingering Images”. Great quality all around. Awesome job!

HOW DARE YOU SPEAK OF THAT GAME

Thanks for the kind words!

Woah the video’s got animation too!

This was a very fun listen. The instrumentation really fit the aquatic… punny snail? theme you were going for. I loved the synth solo in “I Met a wise snail spirit”, very funky! Nice work.

Thank you!

The game idea is really cool! You did a great job with form and fitting harmonic movement within it. Each chord change felt purposeful to keep the music moving. I think the only thing I would’ve liked to see is more instrument variety here. Also the art is dope. Great work!

not gonna lie that synth was a preset LOL. Thanks for listening!

I can definitely hear the outer wilds influence in this one!

The guitar performances were great throughout, and I appreciated how dynamic the bass-lines were. The bass(es) at times could’ve used some boosted mids/saturation to come through a bit more, but that’s just nitpicking. The recurring leitmotifs were great as well, kept everything cohesive. Well done!

It's funny, I actually made the beginning and end of DESCENDESCENDESCEND --- ESCAPESCAPESCAPE first and it took a while to figure out any way to connect them. Thanks for listening!

I liked the groove of "Boardwalk Halo". "Fair of Yesteryear" reminded me of the Toontown soundtrack, so thanks for the nostalgia trip with that one haha. I think the best track here by far was "Beach Games"--I could totally hear that in a game.

The guitar playing was great overall! Nice work.

Oh crap I didn't even realize that, I was rushing to submit lol. Thanks!

Thanks! Hopefully I didn't scare you too badly...

Firstly, I appreciated how fleshed out your game and soundtrack explanations were. It helped a lot to understand the meaning behind everything.

This submission is lovely! You did a great job with how you handle the rising and falling of energy and tension in each track. And each track has its own identity while still keeping the whole submission cohesive, which made it much more interesting to listen to.

The one thing I would consider is reverb levels. At times, there tends to be a lot of instruments fighting for the "closer" spots (i.e. little to no reverb). I think giving more instruments a little more space would go a long way. Great work!

Thank you! Though cooking wagyu steak well done might be crime against humanity lol

That's an interesting soundtrack comparison, I hear it! Thanks!

Thank you, that was the first thing I made for the jam actually haha

Thanks!

Thank you!

Very relaxing. My favorite was "sunset facing east"--you did a good job portraying the sentimentality with the music. I think a slightly more involved bass-line in "at summer's end" would have elevated that piece even more. Good work!
