This game indeed got me hooked! Well done!

Cool game! Though I would've like it if the player had the ability to go backwards (although i can see how that would mess with the score calculation)

Even though the assets are from outside, it all goes together great! The sound design is amazing too. And that procedural generation is awsome!!

Overall great work :D

Developer

Yeah I find that in most cases, the time/energy spent on designing efficient procedural level design really pays off compared to regular hand-placed levels. (Although the challenge is keeping it fun and organic...)

Thanks for the feedback !

I love the pixel art and animation! Very unique use of the theme and limitation as well! Tough to get the hang of, though, haha.
I also couldn't even tell at first that it was procedurally generated, the generation felt very natural!

Developer(+1)

The game is a little clunky admittedly but I think there's some potential at least :D

And  about the level generation it's actually small chunks (made of one or two platforms / enemies) placed next to each other. That way there is some control over the level design itself, but it's also endless.

Thanks for playing!

Was this inspired by that one Sponge Bob episode? Really cool idea and fun game. Played this coop mouse/keyboard.

Developer(+1)

Oh my god it actually was, didn't want to mention it in the description 'cause it was a little bit specific haha. But when Patrick dangerously uses fishing hooks to shoot upwards and then jumps off harmlessly :D

Thanks for playing !

Good game, the controllers were quite strange, but then I team up with another person and it was really cool. sometimes I got stuck in the platform, some collision problem I would guess.  Good Job!

Developer(+1)

Yeah I forgot to make the controls a little bit more universal (zqsd is for french keyboards mostly), and the mouse was a poor choice for the grab button.

The platform problem is indeed a minor bug I couldn't fix in time, sorry about that

Thanks for playing!

What a creative use of the limitation!
the player movement can be a bit weird but i got used to it very fast, as a plataformer mechanic this is a very unique mechanic! Maybe the sprites are a bit too different one from each other, I know that is very hard to find assets that fill your idea needs

Developer(+1)

Thanks haha, it was tough to find a mechanic at first but then I found something kinda fun. And yeah I really should work on making my own art some time...

Glad you liked it :)

nice game! but controls was a bit weird

Thanks for playing :)

This game is top notch. If i'm gonna be honest, i won't be ashamed to admit that after i played this i instantly thought "Damn, that's gonna be the winner." The animation works nice (even though i recognize it as an outside asset), the hook mechanic is a great idea for getting the player 'round, and the sound effects are really nice. One thing i have to comment on with the music is, the music is pretty relaxing and sounds like a lullaby, while the game itself is some kind of intense parkourish game.
TL;DR your game is good and i think you could make a really good city parkour game with no problem

Developer

Man you just made my day :D

I really like games with swinging mechanics in general so I try to emulate the feeling as often as possible.  The character asset really is great and I'd love to use it some more in another platformer/parkour game. Only this time I'd give myself the time to work out the movement to make it just right.

True the music is kind of odd  though haha.

Thanks for playing !

Quite a fun entry! movement felt weird at first since you couldnt move the hooks mid air, but once I realized you could swing them with your entry momentum it was quite fun! the art didnt fit super well together if I am being honest, the kenny assets and pixel platformer controller didnt felt super coherent, but thats fine since game play was fun! I think the game is most fun when trying to go fast, so maybe a death wall chasing the player forcing speed would have been cool. Great work!

Developer

Yeah unfortunately I'm not a great artist so I tried to patch it together however I could haha.

I wish I had the time (and skills) to make the movement feel faster and more energetic, maybe I'll come back to it one day.

Thanks for the feedback :)

Nice game! A bit too hard and as stated earlier making it into a speedrun game with WASD keys would be really great! I loved the art, the animation of the character is perfect.

Submitted(+1)

The idea is good, it has a lot of potential (I can see it as a speedrun game even, with premade levels or even a multiplayer race) but the controls... what did WASD do wrong? And the mouse button isn't ideal... IMO it would be better to make the player attach to the hooks automatically when they touch them, move with WASD and keep the momentum when you land so that you run faster (if it's not intended- landing slows your movement down). I'd definitely like to see an updated version, because the art (especially the character) looks really good!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback ! Yeah I've had some feedback about the controls, ZQSD is actually the layout for the french keyboard so that would explain. But I should have taken the time to expand the controls a little... I actually did picture a really fast-paced, skill-based platformer but I needed to focus on functionality first. The character is indeed awesome but it came from here: https://deadrevolver.itch.io/pixel-prototype-player-sprites (I wish I could make pixel art that good)

I might come back to it if I have the time, thanks for playing!

As stated before, very unique.

Developer

Glad you thought so :)

Very nice idea, somebody tried something different at least!

Developer

Thank you !

I think the idea of swinging on hooks is cool but the controls are a bit strange to me. I'm glad you had a tutorial because I had no idea what I was suppose to do for a bit.  I don't see the need to have the  'hook grab' on the mouse button unless you are actually aiming your click  but that doesn't seem to be the case.  I noticed a minor bug that sometimes the player can get stuck on the platform when trying to move.

Developer

I've recently started adding tutorials to my games and the extra time spent explaining the game has mostly paid off so it's good if that was helpful. And yeah in retrospect the controls kind of suck and the gameplay loop is very clunky. But thanks for the feedback I'll make sure to apply it!
