Very fun and interesting roguelike! Some suggestions is that the hitbox is just the bottom of the player and not the whole character and that the dash could go through bullets, but this is a great game!

Developer(+1)

The hitbox of the player is actually in the center, but I do agree that it needs some adjustment still.

I dabbled with the idea of having the dash go through bullets, but I usually don't enjoy that this makes dodging sometimes trivial. If I get around to adding more enemies and maybe some bosses that shoot many more bullets, I would want  to keep the sense of skill of dodging through base movement and have dash be used as a simple position relocator.

This is a very unique and intriguing concept. Combining farming with top shooting was something that I definitely didn't expect. The gameplay is very wholesome. The only problem is sometime after I use the inventory, I found myself unable to shoot.

I think it's by far the best game on this jam. I want this on Steam ASAP. I love it. One sad thing is that sometimes the inventory won't go away when I click tab. GG! I loved it! If you have time could you check my game out?

Developer

I'm not sure why an inventory wouldn't go away on tab... I'll look into it.

I am hoping to maybe keep expanding this game if enough people want it.

One of the best games here, the art the sounds the mechanics all are amazing, great job!!!

Very neat. There are lots of plants and different stage effects it is just amazing. Others already mentioned how fantastic this game is I have nothing more to add. If I had to complain about one thing then it is that I have to tidy up my beautiful farm and I can't get enough sickle drops maybe I am just unlucky =D and yeah there is another warp thing occasionally spawning in the middle of my farm, could be just a little glitch with the web build no big deal though.

The game is incredible. Excellent work!

Developer(+1)

Wow, that is a very filled garden. Little low on health, but I doubt anything is even able to stay alive for long enough to do so. Even maxed out the dungeon size!

Sickle drops I made the most rare, (being a 1/5 on tool drops), since I found them very strong to be able to repeat some strong seeds like damage or shot count to easily get full power. I'll definitely look a lot into the balance and how to change certain seeds so that actually farming them doesn't make you strong immediately. My favorite of this is the health seed, since you actually have a good reason to keep them on you to regenerate health.

I don't have words to describe how beautiful this game is!

Did you do it all youserlf? Cuz everything here is good! You've got adorable graphics, smooth gameplay and enjoyable music, as well as a good concept.
Even though it's a bit difficult, I liked it a lot, wonderful work! :)

Developer

Everything is made by me other than the music! I'm glad that you enjoyed it!

I just Blown away by your Art Style and ... and .... such unique mechanic for a roguelike

Submitted

super unique concept for a roguelike, great job on this :D would really like to see a full game out of this idea

Submitted

this game is so well made! The art is amazing and the gameplay feels great but i did sometimes find myself struggling to interact with the plants and such

Very well executed, smooth animations and very good game loop. Overall an excellent roguelike. I found it a bit difficult but it is still enjoyable. Note that blocking the player from shooting while the inventory is open can cause confusion, because one can't tell if the inventory is open while looking at the opposite side of the screen, that is my only complaint.

Developer

I blocked the player from shooting while the inventory was open since it felt a bit weird to shoot every time you moved anything. I tried to convey this by changing the cursor icon from a target to a cursor, but I could maybe look into more options to show that you cannot shoot.

I loved this game!! I played for a really long time. A little tutorial would be nice, as it took me a second to figure out how the eating mechanic worked, and I died a couple times before figuring out about health seed regeneration.

I would definitely recommend a stat window of sorts, as once you start getting more and more plants, it is tough to figure out what you have going for you (your base stats, planted buffs, and eating buffs really start to stack!)

There are a couple balancing things I would look at too, as well as a little trick with the acorn mages, where you eat/plant a bunch of magnet seeds and farm the acorns the mages spawn, getting tons of loot without exploring. Damage buffs also take you incredibly far, and I could 1-3 shot most enemies a bit into the game. You wouldn't have to nerf the plants per se, but maybe add new monsters or leveled up versions of the starting ones that show up later on.

I had so much fun with this game and I couldn't stop playing it! Incredible job!!

Developer(+1)

I did the most I could to tell the player what was happening without having a bunch of text, since I've been trying to improve my tutorials without just telling the player what to do. So highlighting seed stages and the small tutorial textures were what I used to clarify things. But I do know that there is a lot more that I would need to do to explain everything.

I realized how much I needed a stat window after some of my final playtests, but It was a bit too late to figure out how to implement nicely, as well as all of the icons I could possibly need for that to work. I will definitely look into this with a post jam patch.

There are a ton of balancing things that I need to do lol. I knew that players could farm acorns, and I debated having them not drop items, but I figured for now if a player really wanted to farm them they could. The enemies health does scale depending on the floor you are on, but I didn't make it too much since I wanted players to get a long enough run to really see what the game has to offer.

I'm glad that you had fun and couldn't stop! I also played it for like 30 minutes straight when doing some finals funs :)

Awesome gameplay loop, good job !

The artwork of the game is very appealing, however there is a game breaking bug at the start of the game. If you don’t close the inventory, you cannot shoot when you enter the next room, or click retry/menu when dying. It took me several tries to figure out what caused that bug!

Second, it was not obvious that planting the seeds gives the effects until you enter the next room. I trying for a while to click the plants and press e to interact with them until I gave up only to discover that in the next room the seed’s effects had been applied.

Overall, great job!

Developer

Yes, the seeds only give their effects once you enter the next floor. I should've made their effects show up right away within the garden to better convey them affecting you.

Can you explain how you got that bug not being able to shoot? I just tried both entering the teleporter, and going into a new room with my inventory open and I could close it to shoot both times.

Submitted

Yes I think that not being able to shoot with the inventory open was a little confusing, I forgot it was opened since the game doesn’t block movement or anything with it open or closed. Perhaps if it was opened all the time and allowed shooting it would be more clear that you can’t shoot while having it open.

This game had a great idea. I found it to be very confusing at first. Could of used a bit of a better tutorial  but apart from that once I figured it out it was cool. I might not be understanding it but when I plant all of the seeds in my inventory I just cant shoot anymore and that frustrated me as it softlocked me into just having to die. I think if this game was explained a bit clearer it has a great potential. A very interesting mechanic. Loved art!

Developer

I tried to give the player the most information without having them read a wall of text, but I do realize there is a lot more that I need to convey.

Can you explain not being able to shoot after planting everything? The only softlock I know of, is if you plant a firerate seed without any damage upgrades, you can get stuck dealing 0 damage.

Submitted

Yeah of course cuz id love to give the game another go understanding it better. So like in the plating room im dragging out all of my seeds and then I can no longer shoot when I get into the next room. Idk if im doing something wrong but left click wouldnt work and I could not defend myself.

Developer

Is the inventory still open? You cannot shoot if the inventory is open so you need to close it with TAB. The cursor will also change to a target when you can shoot.

Submitted

Ah it was. That makes so much more sense now. Im going to replay the game. Thanks
