Well done! The game is simple and simplicity is nice. I must say that the game is addicting. The music is nice as well. The only thing that I don't really like is... the graphics. They aren't very good. But I understand that this is a submission to 1-BIT JAM as well, so I understand it. Good job, overall!
By the way, my best score was 48. (Written after 15 minutes of gameplay.)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it. I agree the graphics could have been better, even with the 1-bit limitation :)
This is really cool! I like how you only need one button to play the game.
I thought at first that simply spamming SPACE and UP ARROW might be too strong but actually this didn’t work out for me.
To my surprise, the enemy planes and spotlights are enough variety for this game. The music fits also very well. Great job!
Thanks! Just spamming won't work as you'll still get clipped as planes go past you. It's a mix of timing shots and spamming that seems to work best.
Big kudos for making a game for both 1-bit and lowrez jams! I thought about it too, but rejected the idea as it's too much limitations. And yours is also a 1-button game, this is so cool! I really like how the spotlight inverts the graphics and the gameplay is pretty fun and addictive!
Thank you, I really appreciate it. I did spend quite a bit of time trying to figure out a game that would fit both the jams' limitations and their themes.
Really well executed and admire the simplicity of it all, particularly the one button control system. Less is more and all that. It would be interesting to see a version with smaller sprites and a larger playfield area - it's very tight at the minute., but probably for good reason? Great stuff.
Thank you! Indeed it's tight because of the 64x64 resolution limit, but I agree with you, I could probably have gotten away with smaller sprites. After the jam I'll try to refactor it with a higher resolution and a portrait view then post it here and on the Play store as a free game.
great game, feels very polished.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Good job
Thank you!
Very simple yet very well implemented mechanics. Being able to make the game harder on the fly so you can acquire a higher score with the spotlight is very nicely implemented. Could easily be released as a fun little mobile game
Thank you for the feedback, and the suggestion for a mobile release.
A cool take on the shmup genre. I could see a lot of ways to expand on the mechanics. It says to avoid the spotlight… but it’s an easy way to rack up score really quickly. I managed to get 63 while actively going after the spotlights. A simple game, but entertaining.
Using the spotlight to rack up your score is actually by design :). I'm very happy you actually spotted it. However the longer you stay alive the more difficult is to deal with the planes triggered by the spotlight.
The direction change was a nice mechanic! Nice choice of tunes too!
Thank you, I'm happy you liked it.
Great one, Very simple, yet pretty hard :D
Thank you. It takes a bit to get used to the controls
Music is on point. Nice use of movement/shooting mechanics. Addictive. Great job!
Thank you!
Clever mechanic combining shooting and movement direction! Felt really good finding a nice rhythm and just blasting away.
Thank you, glad you had fun.
Loved the simplicity of the game a ton. The audio was so damn great (loved the vibe).
You could have gone with smaller sprites to give a bit more real-estate for moving around/having more things on the screen. Good use of 1-bit graphics though :-)
I agree with the sprites being a bit too big. However the collision box of your ship is quite small :)

Nice one! really creative gameplay and the graphics are so cool!, i like the spotlight mechanic, it would be nice if there were an indicator that you touched it! other than that it was a really fun game! Congrats!!
Thanks for the feedback, and great idea on some feedback when the spotlight spots you. Any suggestions? :)
Maybe a special sound or a different sprite! Would be great
Lowrez, 1-bit and only one button - really fun game made under some really tight constraints. Good work!
Thank you, much appreciated. Also, loved your game :)
Choosing to make a single project for both low-res jam and 1-bit jam is one way to challenge yourself! It's paid off really well here though - you've done a great job keeping the visuals extremely clean, and the limited view works really well with the speed you've set to keep gameplay very fast paced but always fair.
The spotlight is a really fun addition, as I got more comfortable I found myself deliberately triggering it to boost my score faster. Would love to see it in something along the lines of a timed mode!
I did find a bit of an exploit in that spamming the input could create an impenetrable wall of bullets in front of me, but it wasn't an issue as I could just not do that :) my highscore playing normally was 22 :)
Thank you so much for your feedback. And great catch on using the spotlight to your advantage and ramp up your score.
About the exploit, I'm curious if it can be sustained further into the game when enemy planes are many and much faster. What I noticed is if I just spam the button I'll eventually hit an enemy plane from the side when there's many. Spamming definitely helps but still requires some coordination :)
This game was made in the span of 2 days covering two different game jams: LOWREZJAM 2023 and 1-BIT JAM.
For LOWREZJAME 2023 the game runs at an internal resolution of 64x64 pixels and the chosen theme is "Invasion" (hence the infinite wave of enemy planes to destroy).
For 1-BIT JAM the game uses only 2 colors: black and white. The theme is "Light & Dark", and is implemented by the use of the spotlight, which you're meant to avoid... or not :)
