Theme interpretation
There are lag events constantly happening while you play the game to simulate a horrible internet connection

Players Notice
The game was inspired by hours of playthrough of BTD6 with a horrible internet connection

Development Software
Godot, Aseprite

Accessibility
The game is fairly colourblind friendly, and has some settings for audio levels if needed. Though there wasn't enough time to add more tooltips and a tutorial

Enjoyed this one. Fun and cute. Only problem I had is sometimes upgrade menu closing on it's own unexpectedly - poor connection, maybe?)

P.S. wait, you can place toasters on a enemy track?)

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for trying!

The upgrade menu should only be closing if you don’t click on the tower (meaning if you click anywhere outside), so it would be weird that it’s closing on it’s own. I’ll check on the code and try it out myself, thanks for reporting the issue

In the current build, you can place toasters on the enemy track as there were no checks done to prevent that

After a few attempts I managed to beat the game with no leaks!

Sometimes I felt like the game was having some glitchyness going on, I dont understand if it was the intentional connection mechanics or just a bug, cuz usually it took my money too.

Altough I do like the toaster sprite,; it would have been cool to see more turret types, currently the way to go felt spamming max damage toasters.

I recorded the gameplay, so If you want a clip reach out to me on Discord. :)

Hope you enjoyed the jam!

Developer

Thank you for trying the game out!

There are events in the game that do cause glitches, as it was made to simulate lag, like Ping Spikes, packet loss etc. Though there also exists some bugs as well that I’ve recently found out. The taking of money is actually intended currently, as some of the backend stuff I’ve yet to fix made it duplicate money when refunding the player after an event, thus I left it to not refund the player for now.

The hotbar actually has some invisible turret types that are currently disabled, as they were a little too buggy with the events for my liking, but will be enabled again once they are fixed. Going for damage upgrades are definitely a better choice than range or cooldown currently, so I’ll be doing some balancing for that as well.

Thank you for your feedback, and thank you for hosting the jam!

The game is quite fun, and you did very well in implementing the Tower Defense and Player got disconnected game mechanics. I don't think I have any feedbacks in improving the game mechanics, maybe not allow players to spawn towers on enemy paths? But I like able to place on enemy paths XD
Hope you will post update the game after the jam with more polishing.

Developer

I actually forgot about that and didn’t implement a check as to where the tower was placed. Never tried placing it on a path so I didn’t actually know haha, will likely be fixing it unless I can incorporate it somehow. I will definitely update it as most of the main mechanics and features are already set, just needing some polish and content.

Perfect theme fit! The game is nice, lacks a bit of content and extra effects, but it's a solid starting point to add more content and more connection issues.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying! I’ll be working on both so do look forward to it

It's good to see a fellow "horrible internet connection controls" game out there. I guess taking it literally is one way to go. Anyway, this is quite an interesting way to implement it. I felt a little panicked when suddenly I couldn't build/upgrade, and in that sense, the system works quite well indeed! Seeing toasters used as towers also gave me a giggle, surely that's funny as heck.

As for the tower defence side of the game, it's a little bit lacking, and I really hope it will be a bit more polished. But I am guessing you are running out of time at that point. At least the td can be played in full, from start to finish, with upgrades and placements, enemy types and such. It's already serviceable, so I think complaining too much will be just rude.

Anyway, good job on making the game! Keep up the good work!

Developer

I’m glad you enjoyed parts of the game! The tower defence side is definitely lacking, as I spent a lot of time making sure the different events could work with what I have, so I made the tower defence simple to try the events on. I didn’t really have time to expand it past that though. I will be working on the tower defence side, but more on the UI and feedback first to give players a more chaotic feel to the game.

Cool game, the toaster shooting bread is funny and the music is very good!

Thank you for trying!

You had a cool way of incorporating the theme! The fundamental gameplay is fun, but it's lacking a lot of juice and variety. Having more towers, SFX for when you place a tower, along with upgrading, would be nice to have. More feedback upon losing health, turrets damaging, and also a more detailed background would make the game a lot more engaging. Nice job with the entry!

Developer

Definitely understandable, I spent most of the time thinking of ideas and creating the core features, so many things like the UI, SFX etc. were pretty rushed. I’m glad you enjoyed the gameplay at least, I’ll definitely be working on making the UI and adding more feedback to the game.

I liked this one. More bread. I liked getting "issues" where a tower not placing because of poor connection. I liked that there were random moments where the cost values would change while the net was down. Just random glitchiness as the game progressed. Good job with the limited time you had. Thanks for posting

Bread is the best. Thank you for the feedback! Sadly didn’t have time to fully polish the connection issues and add more of them. Do look out for more glitches coming!

i really enjoyed it its pretty simple but also fun... the game really misses some polishing like more towers and screen shake but overall i enjoyed it

Developer

Thanks for trying! I was quite busy this jam so I settled on a really simple idea and just tried to get a working game. Will definitely be adding on to it as most of the core features are already set up, just missing content and polishing. There was more towers until I commented them out, as they were still buggy to play with, regarding screen shake, do you mean when the enemy damages the player?

Submitted

yes it felt there was no impact and i didnt really notice when i lost health

Developer

Will look into that! Realised there isn’t really much feedback for player actions, so will be adding more of those
