Those bugs are no joke) got maybe 3 or 4 jam-mines.

Generally, game is fun and looks nice.

Here are few things I think, would be nice to have/improve a lil:
- sfx or red tint on a tower, when it cannot be built
- visual indication of disconnected turrets
- mini-map?

Developer

disconnected towers are supposed™ to have a darker tint but i probably messed something up

Really enjoyed this one. The particles around the miners are cool and the animation to place things felt satisfying. Neat concept with chaining towers and needing to use them as "cover" to go find more ore. A nice variety of armaments as well. Could be cool to have more variety of towers. Became more difficult as we went along, especially looking for specific ore. But it's a jam. Happens. Good job y'all

Connecting towers and disabling chains when one breaks is a good mechanic and fit well with the theme.  Unfortunately, it becomes frustrating because enemies spawn at random locations, even in between towers, and disable a large chain. I'd love to have a minimap or at least a schema that helps you see what part of your chain was disabled by enemies.

really cool game, good in all aspects!

really hard but addicting game XD

I spread my defense line too thin and single broken chain will broke the whole defense line XD

really fun concept

This is a super fun game! Love the concept of it quite a lot. The pixel art graphic stands out and looks great, the sounds are nice and not too overwhelming, the gameplay is simple and easy to understand, the goal is clear, nice job. I also like the way the range of the turrets forms a nice contour, which I think looks quite cool. Would definitely play a bit more out or anger later (see below).

For criticism, I'd say the balancing of the game is a bit off. Without upgrades and such the game felt impossible at difficulty 10+. Turrets don't deal enough damage to fend off enemies, and the player character got insta killed :( I tried to build huge turret nests with 2 lasers, 3 fires and a bunch of normals all surrounding an unobtainium ore miner, but it still got destroyed for some reason. Spamming turrets everywhere doesn't even help, and it lags the game quite a bit. Resource comes a bit low too, Quinten said purple was the problematic one but I'd say yellow is the ultimate bottleneck given that every damn thing needs yellow. Tried a couple of times but still no luck, and pairing with a slow early game, it is a bit punishing if you lose a run. I'd also say spawning enemies directly at some walls catches me off guard. I am expecting a well-lit area should not spawn, but no, they spawned directly within a turret chain :( I think it throws tactical turret placement out the window, and I think it hurts the game a bit.

Anyway, I am seeing potential, and I think this is a pretty great entry! Well done!

Before anyone freaks out: no I'M NOT A JUDGE, I just rate and give feedback to everyone's games.
My rating has the same weight as anyone else's!

alrighty

Itch marketing:

- Cover art is cool

- Gifs are cool, although the second and the third one feels too dark

- No background image on the page is a missed opportunity

- The table stuff looks interesting

- The icons are fancy so that's nice. Would like to see some "end game screenshots" somewhere to boost excitement

Welp time to play!

- yay fullscreen

OKAY SO THE MUSIC

- Main menu theme: sine waves absolutely suck if you only use them because they can feel VERY sharp on certain sound systems (like mine) and they are very prone to creating strong dissonances when you do chords/intervals. I would avoid sinewaves for everything but sub bass, or a high pitched melody (and even then, you need to EQ out the high end to make it NOT annoying and ear piercing)

- The "hits" are cool I guess, you could experiment with adding hi-hats to add more rythm and high end to make it feel more complete.

- The melodic ideas are interesting but definitely switch instruments or synths or anything BUT SINE WAVES PLEASE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (you might want to look into sound fonts, or free VST plugins like Vital and Spitfire LABS)

OKAY LET'S ACTUALLY PLAY THE game

- the UI is nice and cool good job, although the PAUSED text is slightly blurry

- okay I'm muting the music, I really though there was going to be something else for ingame.

even more sound design tech then,....,./;,.';,.'/

- Add reverb in the engine. You are in a literal cave, why am I hearing fully "dry" sounds?

- Panning on the footsteps don't make sense at all. The sounds shouldn't be so w i d e.

Okay actual gameplay now

- I basically missed the tutorial on my first run and died lmao

- the turrets UI should gray out turrets that I can't buy. Why can I even try to place them down without the resources necessary?

- The "horde incoming" text is behind the turrets :wah:

so I played it for a bit, reaching like difficulty 7 and it's okay I guess, so here's my final notes

- The resources are mega inbalanced. You need to use a lot more of one type than the other, and that doesn't feel great later in the game when you can't spend like 300 of the purple rocks

- Give me a way to attack pls. I want to hit enemy. It's good risk and reward trust me

- For the majority of my playtime I had no idea where the action was happening. I just kept hearing action, but had no clue where it was. Probably should add some enemy arrows, or a minimap, or the ability to zoom out to fix that.

- The "objectives" felt way too random, I had no idea where any of them were (again could be fixed with an arrow/minimap) and that just made me ignore it immediately. There isn't a progress bar or anything visual to show my "run progress" that would motivate me further, so the game essentially remained goalless for me which is why I stopped playing.

All in all, it's not that awful of a game that you make it out to be. It definitely has places for improvement, but at least I'm not complaining about the juice/UI (mostly) like with your previous games, so that's an improvement I suppose.

Jam Judge(+1)

oh yeah and I like the gameplay focused interpretation of the theme 👍

Developer(+1)

i'm really surprised that you didn't complain about juice cuz i really didn't have time to add any and there isn't even any screenshake

this is a really fun game! nicely done! i like the way light works a lot!

Really good way of incorporating the theme! The art is amazing and the SFX also fit well. Enemy AI also worked properly, and didn't feel unfair to go against. The menu UI was also satisfying and there were a good amount of options to mess around with. As for my problems with this game, I'd say the biggest one is the turrets on the menu not being greyed out when you don't have the resources to build them. It would feel much better to quickly see if you're able to build a turret or not. Also, on the menu screen, if you lower any of the sliders to 0, you go back to hearing the audio like it's at 100. Overall, this was a great entry!

Really fun game!

Sadly couldn't beat in 2 hours of trying.

My main strategy that was working, ended up crashing the game for having waaay to many turrets.

I really like the tower defense aspect of it & its tie into the theme of the jam.

Reminds me a lot of Mindustry.

Accesibilty polish is quite good! Quick Keys for turret types would have been a nice2have. Same with red text if you are missing resources to build.

Overall really well done entry.

oh no my horrible connection code is getting to me D:

It was really fun i really enjoyed the game, i felt like the was missing some screen share like when the you place down a turret, or when the pricing turrets attack ect... the visuals are really good i really like them, the SFX where really great i really loved it, overall its a really nice game but it misses some polishing!

Really cool game, i love tower defence games.

Visuals:

The pixel art looks great and there's absolutely no issues to the game's visuals, the UI looks good too.

Audio:

The music is great, the sound effects are well fit and sound good.

Gameplay:

The game is straightforward but fun, honestly there's no real issues.

Overall:

Great entry, you all did a great job and should be proud of yourselves. Good Job!
