Very challenging game. I liked the idea of having a puzzle to regain control of your ship, but I think it kind of broke the flow of the flying. The flying was really well implemented; it felt great. The music was really nice, and I really enjoyed the cut scene at the beginning.

Woah the game is very hard! I did manage in the end though. I am very happy that I manage to complete it. To anyone who is having a hard time, I suggest taking their time in avoiding the asteroids and fixing the ship. There is plenty of time to do all that and find the gates too!

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Yeah, this is a good strategy, the 5 minute deadline is very generous! Good job for showing that punk Spaceman Craig what's what!

Very well done! Nice use of Kenny assets. :D

I managed to complete it with 15 hp and 2:35 left, and enjoyed the intro and outro sequences. That was a very nice touch and really added to the polished feel.

The system of fixing up broken system adds a really neat gameplay element, although it would have been nice to be able to interact with the number pads via keyboard or maybe have a different mechanism for that as the mouse interaction felt a bit clunky. It ended up being a bit frustrating later on when they break more frequently.

As a side note when the thruster power system broke down I actually left it for the entire game because the speed boost was more beneficial than hindering. XD

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

haha, you found the Easter egg! When the main thruster becomes unstable there’s a 1 in 5 chance it’ll become over charged instead of just not working at all.

And yeah, lots of people have commented that the method for fixing the unstable systems isn’t the best. Something to look at if I make a sequel - Spaceman Jeff has got lots of flying to do now he’s an official Super Spaceman Pilot!

You really feel helpless in this game... I liked the idea, but it's quite difficult and gets annoying when you can't do anything)

This is definitely really hard! Maybe the ship turns too much

DeveloperSubmitted

Keep at it, don't let that punk Spaceman Craig think you're not a Super Spaceman Pilot because you are!

At first play I got stuck on the first gate and couldn't get off, maybe just a bad start from me. On the second play I managed 4 gates before losing all my health. It's a tough game, but probably gamers better than me will be fine. I really enjoyed the cutscenes at the beginning too!

DeveloperSubmitted

Thanks! There's another cutscene at the end if you do manage to do it! I should have added ones for when you lose too!

Loved the intro! Nice concept and I wanted to win the right to be a pilot...

But this was a real hard challenge! The ship was too sluggish to turn which made it nearly impossible to avoid the asteroids. Maybe slow the asteroids down a bit and give the ship a bit more turning force.
Also, maybe ignore "correct" physics and help the ship to slow down using some kind of "friction"

Also, an asteroid was blocking one of my gates!!!

Entering the numbers into the numbered with a mouse was really tricky. Could you use the numberpad on keyboard instead maybe?

DeveloperSubmitted

Thanks! And yeah I've had gates blocked before too, but I've also seen another asteroid come along and then clear the gate! The problem is if you make all the gates bigger it's easier, and I wanted a challenge. That said, as I'm typing this now I realise I could have implemented some sort of check to see if the gate was blocked and then manually clear it. Oh well!

And with regards using the keyboard instead of the mouse, it means you'd be limited to one system failing at a time, otherwise how would you know what you were inputting for? And one broken system at a time? That's not very unstable at all! ;)

Submitted

ha ha, one unstable system at a time is my coping limit though!

Submitted(+1)

I played twice, got through 4 gates on the 2nd attempt, then two systems were down at once, and I stopped playing there. There are a lot of punishing elements to this game, and I didn't feel I had agency over the ship for any longer than a few seconds at a time.

Nice job submitting two games to one jam, though.

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Yeah, it was a difficult balancing act between getting the systems to fail at just the right rate, maybe I didn't quite get it right as it's dictated by the RNG, so you can get unlucky with short intervals. That said, although you can solider on with a system down you should always prioritise fixing something first and ignore the time limit. 5 minutes is plenty of time to find all the gates!

Submitted(+1)

This is a pretty cool concept, but super hard :)

Could be nice to add another system for radar to know were the gates are, I easily ended up lost in there :P

DeveloperSubmitted

Yeah, that's a not a bad shout. Originally, I was gonna have the gates move, to really emphasise that it was in the UNSTABLE ZONE, but when I scrapped that idea I should have put a little mini-map or something in. Oh well, one for next time!

Submitted

I had a lot of fun playing that! I like the funky music and a great idea for the ship repairment.

Sometimes I could get stuck with the asteroids and gates and the reverse option would be very helpful, additionally some kind of an indicator to where the other gates are.

Submitted

Liked the idea of multitasking the ship control and fixing it at the same time! It was quite a tough game to beat.

Submitted

Very, very fun, wonderful interpretation of the theme. It was very hard though, maybe adding an easier difficulty level, or maybe a harder one with more parts that break, or perhaps fuel management. Overall, great job!

DeveloperSubmitted

Thanks! <3 I think as other people have mentioned the way to go with difficulty would be to ramp up the number of clicks needed to repair systems rather than it always being 9.

Submitted

I like the spaceship controls as well as particular thrusters not working but repairing is too tedious for me to bother finding all the gates. I feel like 3 - 6 digits would already be enough with how often they break, 9 digits is just madness, I rage quit :)

Original entry matching the jam theme well, good job!

DeveloperSubmitted(+1)

Haha, but if you quit you'll never be able to shove it Spaceman Craig's face when you prove you are a Super Spaceman Pilot! He's a real piece of work, that Spaceman Craig.

And yeah, what would have been better is if the first time something broke there were 3 digits, then the next time 6 and finally 9 as the system got more and more unstable. Oh well, you live and learn!

Really cool concept, very difficult and the music is fantastic

DeveloperSubmitted

Thanks! Hope it was difficult in a good way! The music is from Newgrounds, which is a great community if you don't already know it:
