Hey CGSmoothie! Just saw your devlog and on the topic of camera issues I only heard you mention that it zooms in and gets stuck behind objects? But I would propose that the larger problem stems from that the controls are inverted and that the sensitivity is too high. Also the pointer still being visible is messing with my mind haha. Fix these in an updated post-jam version and you have one heck of a cool game!

Developer(+1)

I did also fix the camera inversion, I just didn't say so in the devlog because it seemed like so small of a point lol, Uploading the new build now. I might fix the pointer later!

As others said, the camera control is the main enemy, but nice visuals and gameplay.

The idea is great, and I liked the presentation as well! Unfortunately I felt like I was struggling just to align the camera the whole time. I wasn't able to beat level 2 because I couldn't align the camera properly. Solid entry though, I think it's clever take on the theme!

It felt a little like I was trying to beat the camera rather than the level, but I loved the idea between switching between ball and dice mode. Great concept!

I like the idea and presentation, but the controls needs some work!

This could become a super monkey ball-like mobile game with few tweaks and more levels!

Controlling the character was pretty fun at times, but most of the time the game felt kind of unplayable due to the camera

Cool idea ! The sensitivity of the mouse is too high, it is a bit spoiling the experience. given your time constraint, it's a good job :D

Clever concept, but the camera controls messed me up really hard.

Pretty good! Turning into a dice in the air to break when landing is a cool idea and was satisfying. I really struggled to get into the maze in the third level I think? Really solid foundation you got here. Well done.

This was pretty fun.

A creative idea with a (self-admitted) horrible camera system. That camera hurt me inside. I did finish the game :)

Some recommendations for after the jam:

- Fix the camera (lol)

- Have the movement be smoother and lighter. Right now it feels like a boulder with a TON of momentum, but it doesn't feel right because of the scale of everything. I would recommend you literally get a marble, clue some cards and a cup on a cardboard, and try a level in real life. See how it feels and acts.

- I think this could be a very fun mobile game at the end of it all. Make it so the way you control the ball is by "moving the stage" (by moving your phone) and using the phone gyroscope to do it. Probably not the most original idea but it would be fun.

Developer

I've fixed the camera controls now, just waiting for the voting period to finish! Thanks for the other feedback though, what you said makes a lot of sense! Even if I might not go back to fix this game the scale of momentum is a great tip for future projects! Thanks! That Mobile phone Idea does sound like some Monkey ball spinoff haha

The idea was really good, but it feels like you needed more time to finish polishing it. Hope to see more iterations on this concept. Great work!

Developer

I polished it today so once the rating period is over a much better build will be up to play

Like you said in the description, unfortunately the camera was motion-sick inducing :(

I managed to get in the maze but nothing happened after getting to the cup and I didn't see any exits. Maybe I missed something? The music was nice!

The game was okay, but the camera made it practically unplayable, might be a browser issue.

I quite appreicated the little stacks of chips and the players ball.

Developer

thanks, yeah I knew the camera was a problem but I barely scrounged up enough time to make 5 levels, I definitely should look into improved camera controls for my next 3d projects

Developer

or perhaps maybe look into shader graph so I could just make the player render it's silhouette when it's behind something like Mario Odyssey

if you update it please reply again, I’d like to check it out with it actually playable. It moved ALOT when I barely moved my mouse. So I couldn’t even try, sadly.

Developer(+1)

I think this would be one I'd actually update instead of an empty promise to myself! I will let you know for sure, but I think it will have to be after the rating period right?

yes it will. unless you don't care about it dropping from the jam.

Developer

Here's a question though, do you think the game would be better with the free 3d camera movement or a top down movement? I might make it toggle-able in a settings menu at the start

(1 edit)

Idk my personal bias is against top-down in marble games. but maybe it's a fit for your game. I say try both and go with your gut.
Check out the game we just made in my profile. We're still working on it.

Developer

I went with both, and yeah I'll check out your game! I also added that shader thing so I'll comment another reply once the judging is over so you can see the improvements. I think it actually made the game WAY better.
