I see a lot of potential for this game, but unfortunately, the randomness of changing to the needed cat made the game barely playable in some scenearios. I feel like the RNG should definitely be lowered. Great job making the game though!

Developer

Yeah I agree, I think I'm going to separate the dice rolling mechanic from the cat game idea I have when I work on it some more. Thanks for your feedback and thank you for playing.

the concept was pretty cool, but the game was kinda confusing.

I couldn't figure out what to do.

Developer

Thanks for playing, sorry it was confusing. It's my attempt to a puzzle platformer so I didn't want to explain everything. Maybe I didn't explain enough sorry. Thanks for your feedback!

Hey, good game!
Feedback:
1. You can get stuck on one kind of cat for a while - like if I get stuck on the purple and orange cat, but I need the black cat - it gets boring and frustrating (I guess I am just impatient).
2. Sometimes the black box just flies off into the void when I crash into it with a purple cat (maybe due to high speed).
(this should help if you plan to improve upon the project further)

If you have some spare time, please consider playing my game and providing feedback, that'll help me improve as I am considering building it out into a full game.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! Yeah I put in true randomness so it can be pretty extreme sometimes. You can get the same cat over and over again but then other times you'll change cat every time. For sure I'll rate your game and tell you what I think of it. Thanks again for playing!

I dig the 2d Minecraft aesthetic! If you decide to continue this game outside the jam, I think the game would actually be more fun with the rng dice element removed. Cool concept though!

Developer

Thanks I agree I think I'm going to separate them into two different games. Thanks for playing!

Very creative concept, the story and context about cats is so captivating! I love it. Sometimes my games rolls the same cat several times in a row, maybe code something to prevent this behaviour, specially given thetime the player has to wait to roll again. Anyways, congrats for the submission!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, unfortunately the cooldown and reroll were conscious choices on my part. In real life you wait your turn and can end up rolling the same number over and over again... But that definitely doesn't work on this type of game. I guess that why prototyping and playtesting is important. Thanks for playing and for your feedback!

interesting gameplay ) I’ll play your game on the stream again. Please give my game a try if you have some time!

Developer

Oh super cool, thanks. Send my your stream link I'd love to watch. I will definitely play your game! Thanks again.

the camera should follow the player better cuz you dont really see whats infront of you

Developer

You're right I have to fix that. Thank you!

Was interesting to try, but I hit a bug where I was stuck on the bottom of the screen (as purple) and ran the whole thing... but couldn't get back out.

Developer

Yeah I've run into that too in my testing.  But I couldn't recreate it consistently and I just didn't have enough time to fix it. Sorry you were hit with that. Thanks for playing!

Interesting concept, quite buggy though and can be boring when waiting for the dice to give you the correct cat, but still fun!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah the dice cooldown is a point of critique with most people. I have to think about how I'll rework it

Submitted(+1)

Fun game! The cooldown for rolling the dice could be a little shorter

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yeah I'll have to change that when I keep working on the game

For one person under this time frame this a good base, Great job! I do agree the dice mechanic doesn't suit it and would probably benefit being just a puzzle platformer without dice rolls. would love to see if you build upon this outside the jam.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback. Yeah I'm planning on fleshing out this game... even if I have to remove the dice mechanic. But I do like the dice mechanic and in the end if I can't fit it in this one I'll just have to make another game that suits the mechanic better lol.

I rate this 9/9 lives.

I think the main design issue here is that dice rolls are chance based, but this game is kind of puzzle based.

i.e. there is a jump, so I have to be the orange cat. Rolling 3 times to get the orange cat causes me to stop, so I'm sitting there waiting and not playing the game.

To make it work, I think your abilities need to be less restrictive - i.e. increase jump height to make it easier, but don't make it so only one cat can jump. Perhaps there are two ways into the cave - the black box blocking in one way, and a high ledge another way - that would allow chance to actually have an effect on the gameplay itself.

Still, the game is functional and the art is cohesive. The player controller for the jumping was a bit off, but otherwise it was responsive to what I wanted to do. Thanks for submitting!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I truly appreciate it!

Congrats on finishing your first game. The mechanics are really cool and I like the way you switch between cats for different areas.  Like someone else said in the comments I think a shorter cool-down would be nice for when you are just trying to roll for a specific cat.  I would like to mention though that against all odds two people in this jam both ended up making games where the main mechanic involves rolling a dice to choose between 3 different colored cats with different movement.  I am that other person.  It is the main mechanic in my game as well haha.  You could say in a way that we are the kit-twins in this jam.

Developer

Thank you. Yeah the dice cooldown length and restrictive nature of probabilities + puzzles is a common sore spot. That's hilarious. Thank you for playing!

Nice!

Thanks for playing

Great premise but it gets a bit tricky at certain sections because you just have to wait for that lucky roll. Nice idea though!

Developer

Thank you, yeah I have to rethink how the dice mechanic works. Thanks for playing it!

Great job for your first jam. Be proud of what you made! I like the idea but had to wait 10+ rolls to get the black cat at one point. Shortening the die cooldown and making sure you can't get the same cat twice in a row could help with that.

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm definitely going to keep tinkering on this after the jam so thanks for the suggestion!

This is a Solo project and it's my first Game Jam. I've never had time to join one before so I overestimated to the time I would actually have, but you can get from the start to the end, so... complete! Thanks for playing and rating!!!
