How does your game fit the theme?
The core of Loop Soldier revolves entirely around the concept of time loops. Every time the player dies, a new cycle begins by controlling a new soldier, while previous soldiers repeat their recorded actions in real time.

After playing too many shooting games, player might unconsciously press R while playing, thinking you're reloading, only to start a new loop. Haha.

I really like the design of darkness and lighting in Loop Soldier; it adds so much atmosphere to the game. Especially that feeling of worrying whether an enemy will jump out from behind you—it's great.

If you plan to keep refining the game after the jam, I hope to see differentiated designs for different soldiers. Great work overall!

It feels very good. A top-down shooter with switch mechanic feels fresh. Death is not frustrating, because you don't have to go through the level again, you just have to get into the same body.

It lacks a better sense of impact from shooting and hitting enemy, but it's quite difficult to do everything in such a short time. I also threw out all the "extra" in my game on the last day of the jam

I really love this idea! I had a bit of trouble understanding at first, but once I understood the game felt great! Very well done :D

One thing I wish you guys would've added was some kind of way to reset the level completely as sometimes I would mess up my ghosts :P

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much!

And yeah, I should’ve added a restart level button in the pause menu. Our problem was that we didn’t manage to finish a pause menu in time haha xD

And the other problem was setting up that restart button. The thing is, when you reload the scene, the soldiers still have memories from the previous run, so for a reset button to work, I had to set up a script that would clear all saved data. I know how to do it now, but at the time I just didn’t have enough time.

Submitted(+1)

That sounds complicated especially for such a short time window, I didn’t have time to add a pause screen either :P

Again great game!

Very atmospheric. The sound design of the bugs is really effective. Quite a few entries this year had some sort of “you play along your ghost data” type mechanic, but this one is my favourite of these thus far.

One thing i might add is a faint trail of where each of the soldiers will go. With the 3 soldiers, i kept forgetting where each one will go this time (especially if you’ve overridden the data a couple times). I think it’d also play nicely with your possession mechanic if you get to pre-inspect the level a bit with the “bodyless soul”.

Developer

Thank you so much! I really like that idea, it could work by having a sort of ghost replay of your teammates’ actions while you’re in bodyless soul mode, watching and planning the next move before possessing one of them. That would also allow for adding more difficult levels. Thanks a lot for the suggestions!

This must be turned into a full game in the future, this is the coolest concept I've seen yet in this jam and it was executed really well.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! That really motivates us to make a full version. We’re glad you enjoyed it!

Hotline Miami only you can take a few characters who record the actions. It's cool that you can record a whole squad at the end and clean out aliens with your broskis :)

Developer

Exactly! I would've loved to add more levels where you fill those bugs with lead using your bros controlled by yourself.

Thanks for playing!

I loved it. It's the kind of game that grabs your attention right away and keeps you hooked. It's fun, engaging, and mentally stimulating — exactly what you want from a puzzle-action game. The core concept is fantastic and incredibly well thought-out.

What stands out the most is the gameplay loop, which feels fresh and addictive. The puzzles are cleverly designed and keep you on your toes. You can really tell there's a strong vision behind it.

Loop Soldier has a ton of potential to be expanded even further — story, graphics, more levels, enemy types… the possibilities are endless. With a bit of polish and development, this could easily evolve into a full indie hit.

Massive congratulations to the creators — you've made something truly brilliant!

Developer

Woah, thank you for your words! We're working on a full version, hopefully, we'll be able to release it on Steam someday

I like the game and love the fight part of the puzzle the most.

Developer

Thank you so much! I was actually thinking about how interesting it would be to mix shooting with puzzles.

I really liked this! I think I'm a sucker for games in this perspective and sci-fi, so it hit the spot.

My recommendation is more visual feedback for damage and such, like enemy corpses remaining or bug juice splatters.  Also I recommend punching up the gunfire sounds.

Nice atmospheric music, tight controls, good entry!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your words and feedback! You’re right about your suggestions and they will be included in a future version.

Also, great screenshot!

took me back to half life oppossing force

I know it, great expansion. Thanks for playing our game!

Very interesting game! Got momentarily soft-locked on the 2nd level because I let one of the soldiers to all the work and unknowingly triggering a door that now wouldn’t allow the other soldier to go through, but a loop fixes everything here

Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much! Yeah, that level design wasn’t the best, but I already have some ideas to fix it

One of the best games I've seen yet. I really like the team mechanic of working with your past selves. Very fun!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! Thank you so much for playing and for your encouraging words.

This game is very very good and fun!!

I enjoyed playing it a lot, the puzzles are very creative and fun to play, the theme is also very creative, the artwork and sound fit a lot in this game.

Excellent game, I recomend it a lot!

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it, I hope you'll be able to try future versions.

Great take on the looping puzzler. Love that you spiced it up with scifi bugs and shooting.
Would love to see this one blown out with a full story/universe and all kinds of weapons and interesting enemies. The metallic clang soundtrack works great as well.

Nice job!

Thank you so much! In my mind, there's already a gigantic lore. I'd love to implement it along with many more ideas. We really appreciate your words!

Sadly my PC is too old, at least for unity standards so i couldnt play it. Thought give it a try, it looks funny.

Developer

Oh no, that's too bad. I tried it on a Windows 7 and it doesn't work. Like you said, it must be compatibility issues with Unity. I hope you get the chance to play it someday.

Hotline Miami goes scifi!  This is a fun concept, it's so smooth to play.  It's a nice touch that the bugs don't always take the same actions, so you have to play with that in mind when you set up each character.  Love what you've done here!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Hotline miami was actually one of the inspirations. Glad you liked it!

The core idea is there, remind me of Super Time Force Ultra though it's a bit more horror-inspired. Puzzles are straight forward to figure out, and bit of shooting actions make it a bit more exciting

Developer

Thank you! I actually discovered that game during the Jam! When I came up with the idea, I looked to see if it had been used in any other game, and I happened to find that one. Luckily, it's different enough.

Very well made. It lacks a little better tutorial of how main mechanics and AI works. Had a little time before i got the idea. Gameplay and sound design on top.

Developer

Thank you so much! Yes, it's a bit confusing to understand at first, I'm thinking about making a new tutorial. I don't like explaining the mechanics too much because I want the player to have the satisfaction of discovering them, but it's also not fun to not understand anything.

Solid game! Super interesting and unique take on the time-loop mechanic! Really felt epic in level four and five when I went into those roomes guns ablazin' with me, myself and I

Developer

Thank you so much! When I came up with the idea, I was thinking about how fun it would be to see the final sequence, bursting into rooms and shooting at hordes of enemies. I still have a few levels left to implement!

Submitted(+1)

I'd love to play more when you add those levels!
