This is really impressive for your first jam! It looks like you were able to get a lot of features in. Congratulations, you should be really proud. I sweated out killing those slimes and the wolf came in absolutely wrecked me.

For a bit of feedback, I think you could try reducing the amount of text that's on screen to explain the game mechanics. There were a few walls of text that were a bit daunting, but that's subjective. Awesome job! Would love it if you checked out our game :)

Grind Focus: I really enjoyed the grind aspect of the game, but a bit more guidance and some improvements in the combat mechanics would make it even better.

Visuals and Guidance: The graphics and music were great, but there were moments where I wasn't sure where to go. Also, some of the fonts were hard to read.

Weapon Balance: I didn't see much difference between the two weapons, so I ended up focusing on upgrading just one. It would be nice to have changes that encourage using both weapons in different situations.

Combat Balance: There are some imbalances in combat; enemies respawn too quickly. I think some improvements in enemy placement and attack speed could help.

Music and Atmosphere: I liked the music and atmosphere overall, but the repetitive music in some areas started to get annoying.

Camera Effects: I would have appreciated more feedback when taking damage. Adding effects like camera shake could make the combat experience more satisfying.

Nice Job!

Very grindy and satisfying. I wish there was a little feedback for when your attacks land on an enemy though

cool little dungeon crawler. a bit of guidance and polishing of the combat would really take this to the next level

I found the game and itch page's fonts difficult to read. Cute art but not much guidance on what to do as the player. Died fighting slimes in the mountain.

Congrats on making your first game!

I'm impressed that you managed to keep me engaged for that long with three different enemies xD I like the overall concept and the gameplay pairs well with the graphics and music. I'm not sure why there's two (identical?) weapons? Like surely its best to just dump all the scales on one? also weird that the swords are exclusively ranged weapons.

Still, its a very enjoyable grindy game; fun to way to kill a few minutes :)

Damn, the game is kinda complex, and the first slime got me stuck against a wall, this is hard o.O

Theres a lot of grind involved, I kinda like grindy games, but for a game jam its too much time to invest, specially considering theres nearly 8 thousand games to “play”, so I had 10min playing yours, had some fun, and I love that its another product of Godot, cheers fellow godoter! Congrats for the submission!

Very good. A classic oldschool grind game. Reminded me of the days I played games like this on MsDos...fuck I'm old xD
If you improve your pixelart skills this could become really good. The game loop brings joy and keeps you going.

Really fun stuff, good work. We enjoyed the pixel art style and the music a lot.

Man, this got my RPG level-up juices flowing! Very cool, especially for a first entry, everything needed is there, including a twist ending. Very good start, definitely something you can be proud of! Since you want to keep working on this, i hope you don't mind me being a bit expansive on the feedback ;)
Hack: When you hit enemies before they're active, they regen almost instantly, but once you have enough attack to one-shot them that doesn't matter. Also, since they're always placed at the same spots and reach increases (at least to a degree) with attack-power, i ended up killing them off before they even show on the screen. Maybe place them randomly and make it so they become active before appearing on the screen? Or even put in one-time spawn-points that spawn one enemy outside the screen when the player is close enough?
Gameplay: Since there seems to be no real difference between the ice sword and the fire-sword, i ended up only levelling up the firesword and only using that one (even if slow and burn were implemented, i don't think that would change, even more so since the price does not increase with the level). Maybe put in some obstacles/enemies that make you use one or the other sword? And/or make the boss 'switch' so you can damage either with only the fire-sword or only the ice-sword, ikaruga-style?
Also, cooldown seems to not change with level, would be nice if it did (it is kinda long and jarring, which is okay if you can decrease it, but since you can't i ended up taking on one enemy at a time, and i didn't go near the wolves until i could two-shot them)
Convenience: Being able to give more than one scale at a time to the dragon.

Anyway, i really enjoyed this, keep up the good work!

I really loved the game! kind of just kept going and going and eventually one shot the dragon boss hihi. fun twist though!

I originally thought the sword was hurt on contact an was confused why I was doing barely any damage to slimes. Heh.

Nice job thinking ahead and preventing players from cheesing the game; for instance how you can't hurt enemies from a distance if they're not aggro'd to you yet, or how you can't heal from the fountain while being attacked.

great sound effects, and I like the different sword options!

Submitted

fun little game, i appreciate that the implementation of scales are dragon scales, the only one ive seen so far

Nice game! The wolf gave me a run for my money the first time I saw him.

A cute, succinct rpg, though the difficult jump from slimes to wolf boy was a lil intense lol

This is a nice RPG

Really like the open world immersion in this game. The music is very well made and graphics are up to par. Only thing I would want is to have an arrow showing me where to go or something to give me guidance.

Scaling for Scales.  Great Job. Had fun gaining more and more power
