Fun title! (I made rank #5 but for how long!?)

Juice is great, style is iconic to your other work.
Lots of things technically that make this an impressive game in 4 days, great work!
Just now noticing I can turn my ship, I didn't really need to, but I could probably focus my shots better if I did.
Is it supposed to end at a certain level?

Developer(+1)

Greetings swagshaw! :)

The game currently ends itself after completing level 3, I'm currently working on a bigger release after the jam ends!

Rotating your ship is a key mechanic as it allows you to place turrets to face one direction increasing your fire power, or rockets to increase movement in a specific direction

Cool game!

With the amount of games that are "attach things to some ship and become stronger" it is nice to see one that gets some of the mechanics right, and has some interesting ideas to add to the mix.

I like how this game kind of self balances itself, where often once you have enough stuff you become relatively unstoppable, but in this one you kind of become less strong as you add more objects because it then becomes harder to dodge things. But, you didn't make it so that if you get hit you take overall damage, instead having you lose that section, which is such a smart idea. This allows for the player to get hit, which is honestly somethings a good thing since you want to remove some of the garbage builds you were doing in replace of a clean slate.

I do feel as though the movement is rather slow, I get that more thrusters (I think that is what those were? They didn't seem to always activate..) can make you faster, but it still felt like a bit of a slog at the start.

One thing, that a lot of these games I feel kind always frustrates me, is how difficult it is to place the new pieces onto the ship. Often times I found myself spinning to place a piece how I wanted it, but would accidentally hit it while spinning.  I get that playing with the focus on making your ship more compact would prevent this, but maybe explore the idea of the ship not being able to add parts when it rotates.

Having a leaderboard is awesome for a game jam like this, it easily promotes replay ability for simple games, and it did tempt me to try it out... until I read those top scores and compared them to my own. Wow people have a lot of time.

A game like this can easily be expanded out with more things to add to a ship, and more enemy types, maybe even some more game modes. Like one that could rain down a ton of upgrades, so your ship is constantly changing, but there are also tons of enemies, or maybe the upgrades are temporary. Just thinking of some random ideas.

The visual theme is fun and interesting, now it just need some nice accompanying music to go along with it!

Great work!

Another great game by aznoqmous, you never disappointed me!

It's a nice take on the shump genre, it's very engaging. The only things that bothered me a bit were the repetitiveness of the enemies and the art of the objects that I felt sometimes were a bit too similar and confused me because I wasn't able to know which turret does what for example (that's surely because everything uses the same color so you can only differenciate things by looking precisely on their details but as your art is very minimalist it doesn't help).

Other than that it's such a solid entry, I'm already waiting for your next game!

Really good design and utilisation of the concept. Took me a bit to adjust to the fragility of the parts and how to utilise the ship's orientation to link things up into a unified structure. But once I got the idea I started have a lot of fun.

Could do with some background music to help sell the vibe as it seemed to mostly be sound effects but otherwise its a great submission.

Its funny how close this is in concept to my own submission yet feels so different. We both went for modular parts that link together to make a larger ship. However where I focused more on the solidity of the ship you build; you've gone for a more bubble like feel where each part can just pop in a moments notice. Which results in a very different dynamic.

Absolutely fantastic! It reminds me a bit of a game I used to play with friends called Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime. I love the way the pieces of your ship are so fragile—It really makes you think about how you orient yourself, and you can build up layers to protect the pieces you think are the most important.

As a fan of both Captain Forever and GoNNER, this is an awesome combination. Only issue I have is that i wish the game area was a bit bigger/more zoomed out. I kept decimating my ship by backing up a bit too much...

Developer

I didnt knew Captain Forever and its now definitely on my list to get some inspiration from !
The game area become more zoomed out as you pick ship parts, I messed with the settings multiple times and let it in that current state but its prone to change

Definitely great idea and art made it even better. I enjoyed it a lot. Maybe controls felt a bit too floaty, and sometimes it was hard to aim for enemies, while trying to use correct rotation for picking up new parts. But despite that, game feels polished and was fun to play!

Submitted(+1)

Okay it was definitely a bit of fun, it reminds me of Pink River from GMTK 2020 in concept, but gameplay is new ^^ Artstyle is such a pleasure too. I started randomly dying on level 5 and couldn't figure why though

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing my game :)
The game is supposed to stop at the end of level 3, do you recall the circumstances of your death ? Did your ship parts exloded one by one for example ?

Submitted

Yes, it broke into multiple part and then lost my parts one by one even if I got new ones

Submitted(+1)

Love the art, you had a great reference! :P

It is very simple and clever, a lot of replayability!
Congrats to the sound effects too!

Developer

Hehe I hope we'll see other games by ditto one day

Thanks for playing the game :)

Submitted(+1)

Very clever with a truly enjoyable felling to it ! The art is neat as well ! Maybe a little slow paced at first, but you enventually get ther with a few additionnal boosters ! Great game !

Submitted(+1)

I liked the art style and the concept

Submitted(+1)
I really loved this idea and execution!
It took me a few tries to get it down, but I managed to get the high score lol

At the start of the game:

-"Am booster"

By the end:

-"I AM THE GUNNNNN!"

Developer(+1)

Wow congrats on your highscore! :)

That's odd because the game is supposed to end at the end of level 3 🤔

Submitted(+1)

Oh lol.
Perhaps this will be helpful for debugging: While it shows level 6, this victory screen happened after clearing level 5

Developer

Im fixing this asap! But in the mean time, I'll have to delete your high score :(

Submitted

Darn lol

Developer(+1)

Finally I manage to score 4000+ in a legit way so I wont be discarding any score for now !

Developer(+1)

Some guy actually got to 6024 say whaaat

I liked the simplistic but very stylish and well executed art - it feels intentional. I've seen other similar games but the style of this specific one appealed to me more. I only wish the ship movement was a bit faster.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing the game! :)

The slow starting ship speed is intentional,  you must use reactors ship parts (also your very first part in the game) to move faster, a reactor must be opposed to the direction you move to give you a speed boost

Submitted(+2)

Omg that's so deep! Thanks for the tips, let me try again :)

Submitted

Yeah I think it's a fun player decision every time you get a booster, "Do I want to go faster forward, or give myself better maneuverability by putting it in a different direction. If so, which direction?"

Submitted(+1)

Honestly a very very polished game, I would not have expected this was made by one person in 2-4 days without premade assets. It's a very simple concept, but I can see how complex this game can get. I only managed to get to level 3 before dying immediately but I really have no big complaints with this game. I think the only nitpick I have is that there was no music, but the sound design even without music felt really satisfying.

Overall, I really enjoyed this game :>

Submitted(+1)

Very nice game! I imagine how my ship could have become much bigger and complex if I had skills ;) very polished and fun to play

Submitted(+1)

pretty much said all i could on the main page comments! incredible game, 15/15

Submitted(+1)

Loved the concept and the art style, controls annoyed me a little bit

Submitted(+1)

What a fun concept and execution.  I love the variety of gameplay and depth of mechanics achieved from a simple framework, and especially liked all the details that make it so - from being able to shoot through yourself to not disadvantage imperfect connections, to all the tiny animation details of your ship.  If I have one suggestion, it's that I'd like my ship strength and/or my choice of speed to help me control the pace of the level- if I want to move faster/push ahead, I wonder if you can let me speed up and just let me risk running out of new pickups because I didn't wait for them to float in or something, putting more control in the player's hands as opposed to slowly waiting for the level to progress at the same speed.  Very fun regardless!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedback! :)

I honestly though about letting the player speed up the game but didn't find a good way to implement it

Submitted

The game itself looks really fun, but I have seen soo much games with the similar idea  outside  of this jam that I am not so happy with this fact.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your comment ! :)
Could you give me some example of said games ? I'd love to see what can be done to improve my own game !

Submitted

The first one that comes to mind is  Upgrade Complete

Developer

Well it's a space shooter but apart from that no much "similar idea"

I thought you meant you have seen lots of spaceshooters with the upgrade stacking mechanic I introduced :)

Awesome art and gameplay ! Love it.

Developer

You're awesome, thanks a lot !
