Seems fun. Just tried it. Although, what is the point of the Golem? It seems like it's only job is to die. Oh nvm. I discovered the archers. Okay. It seems like archers don't change the damage of golems.
Yeah, the archers (should) buff the golems attack. If they don't, that's a bug. But archers seem bugged atm anyways.
And because you can stack cards, it can be very useful to have a golem to protect underlying cards (such as the +1 draw card that is very weak and thus needs protection, but has a LOT of value).
The highest score I've got was done by stacking lots of cards and putting the reinforcement card.
There's a bug when the stack of cards gets too big, it overlaps the card in hand at the bottom and it just jitters.
Do you plan to continue to update the game?
Don't know yet. I would like to at least fix the biggest issues and bugs, maybe add a few features and balance it a bit better.
It's a nice concept, but with it being a GameJam game (and more importantly GJ code), if I continue with this project and idea in any serious manner I'll probably start over from the ground up and do it properly. :D
This was a nice mesh of Super Auto Pets + Stacklands type of mechanics.
It's feels very polished for a 48 hour game, good job!
I loved the game, it springs a lot of ideas in my head, I think there is potential with the idea for sure.
Great game!
Cool game, I like it! I guess there is no win position... But anyway it has good idea!
I really love this mechanic
Nice card game! Though I'd like to be able to remove and rearrange cards if I accidentally placed them in the wrong slot before I end my turn. This game would also be cool if it had multiplayer support.
yeah, allowing you to change the cards you played in the same turn you played them is high up on the list of things I would change if I work more on this. Thank you for your feedback.
How would multiplayer even work? Multiple players building a dungeon and then the heroes going to only one of them decided by some sort of factor? Then you'd need an incentive to attract heroes, because currently all they do is beat up your rooms. :D Or were you thinking more along the lines of one player plays the heroes, one plays the boss monster?
Love all aspects of this game.
The idea, the execution, and the theme implementation.
I think this is the essence of game jams - a simplistic game with a great idea behind it!
All 5s for me, I dig those indie card games :)
Also love the pixel art
Thank you so much, I appreciate it!
This is an interesting idea! I really like how the cards are used in a way that compliments the fact that they are cards. It would have been cool to see some special effects that expanded upon this more, like maybe having some cards flip over or being able to shuffle the order of a stack. Good job overall!
I wanted to add a visual "rip" effect when a card was destroyed, but unfortunately didn't manage to add it in time.
And yes, actually managing your deck, choosing which cards to put into your deck and stuff like that would be great for a future iteration - unfortunately I only had enough time to do a "pick a random card out of all available cards" thing.
Great take on the "Dungeon Builder" type game. I am also a fan of card games. Once you place a card, there does not seem to be a way to move or delete it, so any mistakes you make are permanent.
It's definitely on the todo list if I ever expand on the idea, to allow you to move cards you played this turn.
Great game all around! Having to think around the effects every card will have is very tricky. Add to that the randomness involved in drawing cards, and it becomes a real challenge to figure out what the optimal play is, and whether you can get out of this without taking any damage! Well done!
A good concept and a nice gameplay loop too! Keep it up!
Pretty interesting! also it's very replayable.
I was hoping that would be the case - thank you.
Woah this is really polished, very neat and simple as a card game and also a great take on the theme! Congrats!
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words!
Nice card game! Satisfying to play and understandable. Good job!
I like the concept, and how you can accumulate your cards on the field. An improvement could be to indicate which direction you fight in, and which monsters come in first. Great job overall!
thank you for the suggestion. Hopefully both of those things should be somewhat clear after the first round or two, but the general problem that the game isn't communicating its mechanics too well is very prevalent throughout. For example there is nothing telling you that you can stack cards on the field, so you either figure that out by accident or you notice the small change in color when you hover a card over another card that indicates that you can actually place it there. Or that the damage is applied for both cards simultaneously, not one after the other.
Nice card game !
Really solid deck building mechanics. A surprising amount of depth once you get deep into a run. Great work!
Thank you for the kind words, it means a lot :)
Hey similar theme to my game as being the "Boss", though mine is more an action survivor's like where as this is more a card game.
Pretty cool design and concept though! I especially loved all the little descriptions you gave the individual cards, both yours and the enemies. Always gave me something to look forward to when beating a round to see what would come up next. Overall pretty cool game! Could see something like this being expanded upon further!
