There seems to be a major game breaking bug on level 3 that makes it impossible for me to properly control the characters after dying on the acid. Nevertheless,
The good things:
Simple execution means simple tutorial means its easy to teach the concept to any other players.
Major caveats:
With the way the game is designed, you have seperate levels for each of the 2 knights which leads to instances where I basically focus on one player only and ignore the other which can defeat the purpose of the joint mechanic.
But you've definitely gone down the right path initially. I am softlocked behind level 3 so I can't past beyond that to give more critisms.
This game felt super nostalgic for me for some reason. I loved the art and gameplay- Super impressive for 48hrs!
The art style is just beautiful! Very good game and idea for the theme!
Thank you so much for playing my game :)
This becomes reaaally mind bending when the controls get twisted, I couldn't keep up :( very good job though!
Thank you so much, I'm working on ways to improve that so hopefully in future iterations it won't be so bad. I didn't make time to play test during the jam so that's my big take away from this entire experience lol.
It works, it's comprehensible, it's got space for expension and fun, not a lot to complain about for a game jam! Testing, balancing and iteration is a luxury in such short time frame :(
Wonderful twist on the "control both at once" concept, the art is gorgeous and the mechanic is super interesting. I wish my brain was able to adjust to each level ^^.
A bit sad that the art is from the asset store but otherwise great job putting it together!
Thank you so much, I wish I was a talented artist but alas I am not lol. Also, as a solo designer I doubt I would've had time to put art and game design together, anyway.
Cool game although I think after the control changes the overlay doesn't change accordingly, unless I'm missing something
You're right, on level 3 one of greens keys is wrong. Sorry about that lol, thanks for playing my game though!
Really good for your first game Jam. It definitely took me some time in some levels :D
Thank you for playing my game!!!
Pretty difficult game. But all the puzzles are possible. Just takes probably a couple tries to figure it out.
The way the controls work it's a very interesting choice.
Very fun. Changing the controls between levels make the game pretty confusing in a good way and allow the gameplay to don't get boring. Good job!
It was fun to play. Great idea but maybe the mirroring of controls is a bit too confusing. You can keep the mirroring for some levels which are special. Also please add WASD control
Thanks so much for playing my game and for the feedback :)
Nice puzzle game! Having the changing control inputs definitely distinguished this entry from other similar puzzle games in the jam; the ones I've seen so far simply copy / mirror controls between two or more entities. I found the physics of the characters a little wonky - it felt like the characters would sometimes lose forward momentum mid-jump, but I could see how this also would enable the player to have more control in positioning the characters. The level designs that I saw seemed well thought out. Overall good work!
Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into the momentum, are you referencing to dashing in mid air?
No, just directional jumping without the dash. If you stop holding the left or right controls, the character(s) will stop moving forward, as if they instantly lose momentum.
This is an exceptional first game jam game. Great idea, good execution. Loved it!
Thanks so much, it means a lot!!! I had a lot of fun in it and will definitely try to join more :)
I like it! The random controls are interesting in theory but they lead to a lot of looking down to try to understand what is happening. I think this could be really great with clearer UI + more focused level design
Thanks for the feedback! I'm new to UI and level design so I'm curious if you had any suggestion on what I could do to improve? Were there any specific things you didn't like in the levels or UI?
I think the UI might be nicer to read if it was a little less text heavy? I think having icons for each action instead of text might help locate stuff a little quicker
Oh, I do like the levels, really. It's just that sometimes it feels like you're performing a bunch of tasks that don't really connect to each other that well, like jumping over a pool of acid at the start of player 2's route only for it not to come into play into the rest of the level. Like, they're nice and they serve their purpose well, but I think they could be better if they focused on more specific conflicts instead of just sort of a broad get from point A to B? Sorry for not being very specific :p puzzle design is hard but I really feel like this mechanic has the potential for really clever levels
Yea, I thought it was a little text heavy too. I'll look into finding icons to represent things. Probably some better colors too. The second two levels were definitely worse and multiple people have commented on that acid pool on so I'll definitely change it lol. Thanks for the feedback though, it's really helpful and insightful. I always like hearing other people's perspectives :)
Quite nice, but the random controls were very weird. Also, on one level green dash should have been right, but it was displayed as up.
Thanks for the feedback. I didn't catch that in the UI lol, I'll add a note in the description. Sorry about that.
Really enjoyed controlling the two characters through the puzzles, which were cleverly designed. Personally I found the mechanic of randomizing controls a bit weird in a game which would stand perfectly well on it's own as a puzzle platform game, but it certainly an unexpected challenge! Great game!
Thank you for playing my game and giving me feedback! My original goal was to have the controls be different between characters and levels. I think maybe it needs to be added in slower to help players get used to it though.
Great gameplay its even hard haha! Music was missing
Thanks so much, and yea all of my audio is missing :(
When changing from windows to webgl unity killed all of my imported audio. The windows version has all the audio though. Would link you to a fixed webgl build but I don't want to get disqualified so sorry about the inconvenience.
This is the best game I've played so far! :D
The idea is great and the execution even greater. The level design is clever and well done. The Controls mess with my head but in a fun and creative way. The game reminds me of Fireboy and Watergirl in a good way.
Well done! ( ̄︶ ̄)↗
Thank you so much!!! This means a lot. I'm new to level design and didn't really know how good I would do in this jam. I'll definitely keep doing it if it's something people like. I'm happy that you enjoyed what I made though and I'll keep developing it so check out later levels once I make them :)
Awesome game design! I really enjoy your levels! Really nice animation works in such a short time. The mix match control has its learning curve especially when the control are swtiched, but after a while it came smooth and handy. Somehow I stucked at level 3 since I can't use the green one the get pass the acid water. I enjoyed all the contents so far especially in level 2 when I have to get two guys into opposite side, great idea! And thanks for playing our game!
It is bit difficult, but clever level designs!
Thank you, I'm not a level designer normally lol. This was my first time doing level design, actually. If you have any specific parts of the levels you found to be too challenging I'd love to hear what they are so I can improve my game :)
