Wow, had to try really hard to beat the purple guy. Got it after a while though.

I had fun with it, but I think the difficulty curve was pretty steep.

Developer

Glad you made it to the end of the game. It is quite feat. I shall be looking into ways to make that difficulty curve a little less steep in the future

The mechanic of picking up and throwing the block is cool, and I really like the animation for picking it up.  The boss fight is really hard, as stated by some other people here, but I'm going to go into the specific things I think made it too hard. The first thing  is the fact that the animation of picking up the block will stop you from moving, which allows Violet to go after you so it feels like she just gets some free hits on you sometimes. Also, the arc of the block is really long and slow, which makes it hard to actually hit her most of time. Standing at the edge of the room will just throw it into the middle, which combined with the slowness and Violet moving around really fast, makes it pretty hard to actually get any hits in. After playing it about 10 times, I think I was only able to actually get one hit on her XD. But if a hard boss is what you're going for, that's fine, I just think the ways that the boss is made hard just feel kind of annoying more than fun. But overall a solid game, just needs a lot of difficulty fixing. Also, the sound and music is really good.

Thanks for your excellent feedback, I shall definitely take on board all of what you said and use it to try to improve my game. When I made my boss fight, I actually thought it was too easy but I'm used to retro hard games like the earlier Mega Man titles. It's going to be hard for me to judge the correct level of difficulty but it is a major issue that many people have had so it definitely needs fixing. Thanks for enlightening me on what makes it difficult. This is going to help me a lot.

The music is an instant win. Pulls you in like nothing else.

I love the smooth pickup animation really satisfying. Also the way the block tilts on you head when you walk left and right. I must admit spending a bit of time trying to balance it on my head :P

The battle was too hard for me though. I spent a while trying to get good enough to pick up the block which was hard as the npc was quite quick, but even then I found it impossible to hit violet with the block. So after a while I game up.

Hopefully a better gamer than I streams this so I can see the rest of the story :)

Don't worry, you aren't the only one to find it a bit too tough. I think I did throw people into the deep end there, sorry about that. I'm glad that there was at least something in the game that you liked and appreciate your feedback greatly :)

Violet whooped my ass again and again! I kept at it because I wanted to unlock more story and snap her out of her state, so kudos to building up to that, but boy was the fight itself tough. Once I figured out the throw arch and her movement I had it down, but I was more invested in the story than the action part of the game and would have liked more of that because you crafted a lovely world.

Great experience overall. And to be fair to the difficulty curve, it almost reminded me of playing Cave Story ... ya know where a boss fight is so hard but you keep going because you want more narrative ... that's a great thing and you nailed it here.

Thanks for playing and seeing it through to the end. I haven't heard of Cave Story but will have to check it out, sounds like it will be good. A game called Castle of Illusion on master system and Super Mario Bros 2 on NES inspired me with the throw mechanism. Story wise, I went with the typical main character has amnesia sort of thing but thought I'd add more of a twist and thats why he wasn't the only one with a bad memory. Best I could think of, it's got nothing on your story.  Hope to add more to my world but shall have to see what round 4 brings. Thanks again for playing

I DONT KNOW YOU PREPARE TO DIE! lol laughed at that line,

yeah that fight was harded than i though.

Developer(+1)

LOL. Admittedly, I probably made the first fight a bit too difficult, sorry about that. I was going to have her jumping around as well so good job I scrapped that plan

oh geez glad you did lol 😆

That fight was more difficult than I expected, it was fun once I got the hang of it though! I know it's a minor thing, but I really like the animation for picking up the block. It just looks nice!

Thanks. I had no end of problems trying to get everything working how I wanted but glad I got there in the end. I was originally going to make the first fight simpler by having Violet moving left and right but then I thought it'd look cool to see her fight back with the block. In hindsight, I probably would have been better making some levels before the fight scene so that people can get used to using the block but glad you enjoyed what you played

1) throw the block off the screen. Reload.

2) kill myself with the bloc. Several times.

3) Read description about AI.

4) find Violet. She is a monster.

I like how you made characters and told the story of their friendship using just shapes! The battle was dramatic and exciting, and once I learned Violet's movement pattern I was able to time the throws and finally knock her memory back in place. I'm glad there was a happy ending. Very nice music too :)

Developer

Thanks. Glad you made it to the end and when I add more I'll keep to a happy ending

Interesting story and the block mechanic was clever and smoothly implemented!
