The art is cute!

I think this would've been better as a high-score based game. Setting an explicit goal, especially so high up, only highlights how frustrating the gameplay is.

It's a bunch of little things. Not being able to move left/right for a moment after bouncing / jumping is annoying. The hitboxes on the bats are too large. The balloons were unhelpful and dangerous to use. The strange sideways strafe-jump. Just, so many little things that would be fine as a half-a-minute sampler, but are absolutely draining as a three-minute challenge.

There's a strange black flicker effect every time the level resets, after the fade in.

The audio is a tad loud. It was consistently peaking above 0.0 dB.

The donuts were cool!

All-in-all, good work. Congratulations on the submission!

I loved the intro cutscene for the game it adds a lot of character. The pixel art was well done too and the music using the dog's bark was amazing. Overall really good game you got here.

Great graphics and snice sound effects. But it’s too hard for me. I tried sooo many times but didn’t really reach more than 10% of the hight. maybe the bats should not kill you.

This was an interesting entry with nice presentation, but also kind of coarse around the edges. The ability to "jump" to the sides proves in fact to be a hinderance when a standard jumping function would've been a more natural choice. The soundtrack is neat but could capture the GB soul better.

The hitboxes feel really unforgiving! I spent way longer than I would like to admit on trying to beat this game and often died when I felt I shouldn't have, things trying to fall past a bat and dying because my white outline brushed against his wingtip. Though I also shoved half my head into a bird's belly at one point and didn't die, so I'm not sure what's up with that?

I agree with the others that the directional dash thing just made things harder, as it meant I couldn't jump while adjusting my position. But you've already heard about that, so instead I'll say: it's a big problem that the ending dog is placed in front of the enemies. I died multiple times because of that thing hiding an enemy from view - and even when I beat it and sat with my owner, starting to scroll off the top of the map (by the way it seems you can do that), I ended up floated into an enemy and killed! That's just not right!

I also got killed by bats in the space section due to not seeing them in time, as ... well, they're black, the background's black, it takes a moment to parse they're there. It may be good to give the enemies some kind of outline (just not a white one) so they're easy to see against all backgrounds. Also the balloon is a death trap in disguise.

All that aside though, the graphics are adorable and so's the music! I'd have preferred a little jump animation to the current spin, but I love the gradual dithering to different colors and the overall visual style is super cute. It was easy to tell powerups from enemies and having three jumps per jump gave me a lot of freedom in scouting out what was above me and choosing where to bounce from. And the fact I played this thing for so incredibly long without giving up, well... That's gotta mean something.

This is a nice little game. The presentation is great, the intro cutscene was very nice. The graphics are cute, the music is great. I almost thought that the jumping was bugged because i was not gaining height, then i realized it was the 8 direction jumping. It is interesting, but it trips me up that i want to move side to side while jumping. Overall, it's good! Good job!

thanks for playing Im glad you enjoyed!

Really enjoyable game here. Clearly influenced by the ever-addicting infinite jumper craze of the late 2000s. I cannot for the life of me beat this game… I’ve gotten to seeing the word “playing” aaaaaalmost to the end, but haven’t gotten back up there.

There were two things that kept tripping me up: 1) Jumping in 8 directions really felt counter intuitive to me (having played lots of infinite jumpers). I just really wanted to jump upward and move left, but just shot straight left and into enemies. and 2) the hitboxes seemed brutal on the way up. I felt like I should slip by enemies and would get hit.

Overall this game was very pleasant. The colors fit super well, and the audio vibes fit the graphics very nicely. I easily played for like 20 minutes, but alas…. never beat it. Great entry!

Oh… and it looks like you have the ‘大’ kanji in the title (big), but meant to have (dog). It took me a minute to figure out what the title of the game was until I saw it written in English.

Absolutely adorable. Love the cloud shapes and the doggy music.

Very nice! Simple, yet addictive.

Also liked the music and barking itself, a neat touch.

Such a cute, simple, and addictive game!  The soundtrack slaps, and dog sounds create a smiling vibe.

The two things I would comment on are the transitions when you fall, it always resets when you're falling, It would be cool to give me a chance to recover while I'm falling.

The other is that, when you jump and press the direction at the same time, you go straight to the side instead of up+side, I got myself confused all the time trying to prepare for a jump only to go sideways without height. If this is intentional, then ignore this comment.

Thanks for playing! That's strange, I just checked an I'm sure you can jump in any of 8 directions. up+side+Jump should let you jump in the upper side direction. If that's not happening I know certain browsers can do weird things to itch.io browser games, perhaps that could be the issue but I'm not sure.

Oh, maybe it is that? I'm using Firefox, I want to beat the game, so I'm going to try in other browsers later!

Cool game! Would love for the game to just let me fall to the start, or try to recover as I am falling. The restart transition is a little jarring.

Fun!

Tricky cute jumping platformer. I love the soundtrack and the little dog bark!

I had a ton of fun making the dog bark! messing with 8 bit sound effects was super tedious but so rewarding getting the right sound. Thanks for playing!

fun little vertical jump platformer and very cute art! it would be nice if the screen moved down with the player instead of the bottom of the screen acting as a kill zone; i could have made several jumps if i didn't raise the screen so much and lose track of a bird or what not. but nice work ^^

Developer

I like the idea but the problem with that would be since you destroy the enemies as you rise, then there could be no way to return back up if you were to fall(since you need to jump on them to recharge your jumps). perhaps they could respawn overtime though? Interesting idea for sure and thanks for playing!

funny dog, would be funnier if it was a monkey though... 10/10

very fun game, well executed, maybe i'm a noob gamer but i feel like the difficulty is a bit overtuned, you can't see the enemy's coming above you so if you're unlucky you just bump into them. the grpahics and sound ooze gameboy soul. except for the spinning animation, that the gameboy couldn't do i think.
the jump sometimes bugs out and doesn't launch me upwards. and please include game controls in the description, it was hard finding out that L was the jump button, should have been Z,X,up or spacebar.

great game highly recommend if you're a gamer with fast reflexes.
