The color you chose for the floor in the room made it seem like it is made of dirt. So by contrast, the play area inside the toy box looks better (and more colorful) than the room. Is that intentional? Nice entry!

I loved the art and music, and the game’s concept was fantastic! I would have liked to see a boss at the end, because i was lucky and finished quickly, but overall, I really enjoyed it.

This is such a cool theme! Music and graphics match perfectly and you could tell a great adventure story in this world. Really enjoyed it.

Developer

I appreciate it! Hopefully some day I will tell that story. Thanks for playing!

I love the concept and I was a bit sad that there were no more content (but I get it, totally, it's a jam).
I noticed two things, I don't know if it was intended, first I didn't take any damage, even when the gum was literally standing on me. And secondly, The gums sometimes rush through one or two rooms because they are tracking you

I'll work on making a better version after the jam ends! It means a lot that you wanted to see more. :) A lot didn't make the time cuts...

And yeah, that's a bug I realized after a while. The game only checks for damage while the slime is in its attacking stage, but if you're standing in its hitbox before it attacks, then it won't check again once it starts attacking. I'll put that on the list.

That's another one I need to fix, too. I'm working on using a Raycast to make sure there's no wall between the player and the gumdrop.

An excellent starting point. Great job.

Developer

Thank you! I've got a lot of code cleanup to do, but I'd like to continue this concept along.

I agree with what others have said, the game is indeed quite cute.

The low-poly models + choppy animation really fit the "children drawings" vibes.

My main critic would be that you don't really have to engage the enemies. I ended up running across the level without fighting any of them... ^^'

But doing so made me encounter the scariest slimes I've ever seen in any video games, they zoomed around the level while doing their lunging attacks !

It depends on the road you wanna take, but one idea would be to have the rooms get locked when you enter one if they contain any enemy (à la Binding of Isaac). Containing the fighting to individual rooms would also prevent them from attacking the player from a room still under "fog of war" (which happened to me a few times ^^').

But overall great game! With a bit more polishing and content, it would really end up as a nice little game !

Have a good one ! :)

I appreciate the notes! I tried to pick an art style that matched the "lore" of the game, so I'm glad that came across.

Hehe, yeah... the slimes aren't meant to boomerang violently around corners, but it DID make them a little harder (and get me to laugh pretty hard), so I kept it in for the time being. The game really is still too easy though. ^^"

I was considering locking the room, but it made the game feel tedious and like a slog to get to the stairs. I wanted to make the game fun first and challenging later, so a lot of difficulty got lost in translation. Maybe future development can iron that out. I'll definitely take into account de-activating the enemies until their room is entered, though.

After the jam ends, I think I'll try working on a more polished and feature complete version, and I'll take this feedback into account. Thanks!

Really cute game, I love the artstyle (like how is this so cute, did you make the assets?) and I enyoed playing it. The only thing I would say could need some improvement is the difficulty of the Candyland because its kinda easy after you get what you need to do. Nonetheless I think this game fits the theme perfectly, I like the story, nice music, beautiful art! Congrats on doing this alone! :D

I did make the assets, thank you! I got used to making low detail stylized 3d models for my main project. And I totally agree, it IS way too easy. I had it balanced around the addition of a gummy bear enemy that didn't make the deadline.

A well made polished game! The game wasn't too difficult and the art was good! Good job!

Developer

Thank you! I felt like I didn't do enough polishing, so it means a lot to see that. :)

I really like this type of game. It reminds me a lot of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Looks really well done for the time frame given for the Jam <3

Thanks a ton! PMD was a huge inspiration for me.

Cute little game, controls were pretty intuitive, easy to navigate around and i liked the aesthetics. Only issue I ran into was Level 3 didn't load properly. Good job!

I've noticed that sometimes the initial room's fog of war doesn't disappear properly, if that's what you mean. Thanks for letting me know! :)

This one was neat.
