Very retro vibes, nice job!

Developer

Thank you very much, that was the goal !

Have a good one ! :)

Love the classic arcade vibes of this game. Nicely done so far!

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for your comment !

Tapper is such a well made and classic arcade game. I'm glad the game manages to evoke the classic arcade vibes !

Have a good one ! ^^

Nice tapper tribute! (Super cute bug edition.) I had fun, although man it gets hard fast. But if it didn't, could it even be called a true arcade-style game? Really cool game, thanks for sharing!

Developer(+1)

Hi, thanks for trying out my game !

I had to scrap some mechanics and stuggled with my time management for the jam.

I ended up using a basic next level => faster walk speed and spawn rate. The game will end up being litteraly impossible to clear since you wouldn't be fast enough to fill and serve drinks compared to the amount of customers.

Arcade games are supposed to offer you a challenge, but still be clearable in 1 credit (with enough practice !).

In it's current state, with this one you can't... ^^'

Have a good one ! o/

Definitely messed up badly a few times, but once I got it this was fun. I really liked the cute visuals, and the idea of bugs coming to the bar for nectar! The best part was the visuals in my opinion. It definitely got hard to tell if I’d already thrown a drink down a line once the bugs bunched up however.

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for trying out the game and for your feedback !

When served, the customers were supposed to be pushed back (and disappear if they reached the door) like in the original arcade game.

But I mismanaged my time and didn't get time to implement these functions (and some other gameplay stuff)... ^^'

Without these parts I ended up using a basic higher level => faster spawn rate. It did end up making them cluster more and more if they successively spawn in the same lane.

If I keep working on this game, it will definitively get addressed !

Have a good one ! o/

Excellent Game. Loved the old school speaker sounds. Nice and easy controls. The game is still challenging though. Keep up the good work :)

I've always been bad at Tapper, but this version is a lot easier since the bugs aren't flinging their leaf flagons back down the bar when they finish drinking.

That said, I still did poorly!

I was hoping to get to level 10, at least, and 7 was the best I could manage.

There could be more feedback for when a drink is ready to be served. They're almost instant but not actually instant and without an indicator (that I could see or hear) to know when you're ready to serve it can lead to failing to provide a drink you intended to.

Developer(+1)

Hi, thanks for trying my game and for your feedback!

About the drink being ready to be served, I tried to do something by playing a slower "filling" sound effect, but I think if was off by like 4-5 frames... Sso the actual "full" timing happens before that... ^^'

At one point I even stopped the sound effect altogether, but it didn't feel good.

I should've been a bit more careful about the actual timing, and maybe should've gone the same route as the original arcade game, by just using an animated sprite.

On this build the levels don't really matter much, it's just a faster walk speed and spawn rate, you didn't miss much. ^^

Have a good one !

Reminds me of the games on the old Acorn machines we had at school in the 80's

Developer(+1)

I've never heard of the Acorn machines, it was before my time (and seemed to be a relatively UK specific thing). ^^'

But yeah, there seems to be quite a few ports/clones of "Tapper" (and arcade games in general) in the micro-computer space.

Have a good one ! o/

I didn't know it, but talk about an addictive game! It's really good, I found the design cute.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much. :)

It's based on a 1984 arcarde game called "Tapper". If you like this type of game you should try it out !

Have a good one. o/

this was so cute, i loved it! at first, i didnt realize i had to tap a bunch... and then i remembered its called nectar....tapper... haha. i also didnt know i would lose "lives" by "wasting" my juices, but after i died the first time, i did better my second time around! congrats on the submission!

Developer

Thank you for playing my game and for your feedback.

I really have to explain the goals better next time, even though you manage to figure it out after a couple of tries. I might have to do a small cutscene, or a lest a few "cards" explaining this better.

Have a good one ! o/

wow , its very retro , art style is great .

I loved it.

Have a look for my game :).

great little game, loved it. Took me a moment to work it out but then very enjoyable. I honestly struggled a little to read some of the letters they were so pixelated haha, like the enter key to start. I really got into it and it got very manic. Would have loved to see some kind of scoreboard too :) well done

Awesome work! The gameplay is intuitive and challenging, I got hooked right away. I can tell a ton of effort went into it. Great job 👍

Hey, what a cool project, I didn't know Tapper, maybe my dad knows what it is or has heard of it, but I really enjoyed the experience, for those who haven't had contact with anything like it, it's very challenging, but in the sense of wanting to keep playing, excellent work!

A twist on a classic, so I familiar with it and was immediately able to jump into the game. I served my way up to level six and had quite the time doing so. The patrons didn't slide back their drinks like in the classic game but I did have the ability to stand at the edge of the tables to catch them so I'll chalk it up to a cut mechanic. Gameplay loop is strong with some great visuals and matching sounds effects. Great work!

Developer

Another Tapper enjoyer, great !

You're right about the cut mechanic, I didn't manage my time too well. ^^'

For the gameplay loop (even considering my cut down version), i'm still impressed at how simple and effective it is even today.

And thanks for mentioning the sound effects btw. There is still a lot of room for improvement with more time and care (music/jingles, better management of sound channels and the timing of play/stop, ...), but I do feel like it's an important part of games that's often overlooked.

Submitted(+1)

OH my... Playing this game reminded how simple mechanics can be challening. And NOT INTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PLAY is an absolute win for me haha (yep, i didnt read your itch page or options controls).

Liked that you added on-screen controller. Im using my tablet now. And I could easily play here... Something I didnt do on our jam game :P

Took me a while to understand what to do and what was happening. Like the art. Like what games used to be. And also - tell me whats the font name of your itch page?? I was looking for something similar for my main game...

Anyways, congratulations on submitting your game to the jam! Im curious to hear your story - why alone and not with a team? I can see how this game can be expanded into multiple levels and different mechanics to level up the challenge. :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback.

I had the main inspiration (Tapper) way too fresh in my mind, so it absolutely didn't occur to me to ask the question "what to do" ? ^^'

I didn't make other people test it before posting, but that's what feedbacks are for !

For the font I used Itch.io 's, a quick search lead me to the 04b-03 font (similar, but not the same). I hope it can help you !

I scrapped mechanics/level variety due to not optimal project/time management on my end... ^^' But they were in the original plans !

And finally I went solo just to prove to myself that I could make a game from (pretty much) scrap.

I learned a lot !

Submitted(+1)

oh! that's cool to read. Kudos for you to actually submit something (and 15 hours before due date). Most people dont even finish what they started (and in groups) or have teh guts to publish something. Only that deservers a reward. Here's a cookie O'

thanks for the font. I had issues finding retro fonts when I started my game. it's very important to socialize when making games! (and Im not that social) and since I started, i've find that asking people I learn a lot. Specially to your players... because they use your product without your subjectivity.

That is power.

Because as a developer (Whatever you create) you will always see it from your own point of view.

So getting other people's points of view (wrong or good) helps to spot things you can't see.

Basically this:

Seeing Beyond the Six and Nine: Embracing Multiple Perspectives in Conflict Resolution

I always ask myself "what should the player do now?" and make it obvious, or else they get lost. Somehow humans dont want to think. So let them play :)
