Really liked training the units (the Skelli especially) and I thought the controls for panning around were really smooth. Training units worked and liked the various choice of units and the mechanic of what happens when starting a wave. Overall, really good job on the game!
Reading comments there seem to be more levels, but I couldn't click on the buttons of the victory screen. For me the most feasable tactic seemed to be to sacrifice a cheap swarm to have enough coins to build tanks the next round, after that I could just walk through the towers. Besides that it seemed pretty complete with upgrades and multiple units, but a little need of balance finetuning.
Wow this was such a fun game! I loved the visuals of the buildings and the units. The RTS aspect of upgrading and training the units was really cool and I liked the diversity of the units. I will definitely come back and play more of this.
thanks :) happy to hear that you liked it. I might turn it into a proper game in the future if I find the time
I hope you do! It definitely feels like it has the potential to be expanded but it's already amazing what you got done for the time of the game jam.
I liked the idea of the reverse tower defense ! i managed to pass the first level by spamming taurens then the next by spamming swarms. Then I died on the level where you have fire ball towers. i think you can improve the concept and the user experience by putting more on the UI. Your game is very nice, good job!
thank you for the kind words :) I might pick this project up in the future to develop it further
Good idea, ui elements can be improved. Tauren is toooo op!
I like the idea of being on the attacking end, it is a unique concept. Although I understand it isn't easy to balance and test all aspects in such a period, the Tauren were overwhelmingly more powerful compared to the other units, I only needed to use them to clear the game, would have been interesting to see either their effective ability go down over time as the defenses become slower shooters but heavier punchers, which then gives time for the swarm to shine or something similar. But overall, a fairly enjoyable experience, thank you.
As everyone else saying in the comments, a reverse-tower defense is a super unique concept! I liked some of the sprites you guys made! Good job on the submission!
The idea and execution of a reverse tower defense game are just wonderful here! It turns out there is a lot of strategy that can go into seemingly samey hordes of enemies. The upgrades work well, and humans building new towers as the game goes on is a wonderful touch. Good job!"
A nice reversal of a tower defence game
Congrats for putting all those features in this game AND creating your own assets. All that in 10 days! Keep it on!
Reverse Tower-Defense is pretty fun and rarely see them so this was a nice change!
The balance is a bit wonky though once you learn the swarmers have the best ratio for cost/income increase. Just mass them until you can afford an armor upgrade and 4+ Taurens per wave and it's basically auto-win.
Still really fun and definitely a strong foundation for a more fleshed out game if it's development is continued post-jam!
glad to hear you had fun :) yeah balance is hard
I do enjoy the reverse-tower defence format, it’s quite fun. I think it would be nice to be able to order the units in some way, rather than them seeming to be ordered randomly, and maybe if the upgrades were harder to get but carried across levels.
thanks :) the order they start moving is based on the order you train them
I enjoyed this, one of my first times playing a reverse tower defence style game. I kept spawning swarm units, until I discovered there was more than one tent to click on and found plenty of upgrades and support! Quite a lot to this for the short time we had, congrats!
And don't worry about the balancing you mentioned in the description. I had the same problem and it looks like you had far more things to balance in this game...
hey thanks :) balancing is hard, you never know how familiar people in a jam are with these kind of games
True that, plus in a time restricted jam you just want to add as much feature and polish to the game as you can. It's hard to find time for perfect game balance.
Easy to play and lot of fun. That's a nice game. I clicked in my second try to the gamejam mode and created only swarms. the first round didn'T ended. there was always one alive and the unit stand in the door from the goal and were stucked there. i had this 3 times.
oh thanks, I haven't noticed that before, will look into that :)
I see why people are flocking to this game. Easy to play and fun!
thanks for the kind words (:
Cool game
I can see a lot of game design work went into this! You've thought about different units and upgrades, and set them up to be distinctly different. And then also set up things for the defense side as well. Great going!
thank you :)
Nice game, I liked that we were attacking the castle this time :) good work!
thank you :)
I have never played a reverse tower defense before, this was a lot of fun, great work!
thank you for the nice words :)
Very nice. I beat it! Didn’t expect it to be reverse tower defense, very cool concept and solid execution.
I do think there is some kinks in the design though. Namely, you are incentivised to spam basic units way too much to gain money. Once you realize that the more you spam the more money you get, the game becomes easy. Not sure how to fix such a thing, maybe someone with actual design experience could give you actual advice.
But yeah, otherwise, the game has a ton of content for game jam, good job! And extra points for including a ton of extra things like the glossary for the all of the game’s mechanics.
thanks :) nice that you noticed the glossary.
I agree, didn't quite mange to find a good way to implement more incentives to branch out to other units in the time frame.
