Great job, I'm so glad I found this to rate before the deadline!

I think this type of game is really cool! When I was brainstorming I thought about doing a lifecycle kind of a game too, but it didn't pan out (this time!) It's cool that you were able to make it work!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing! Would have been interesting to see your interpretation of the subject. Maybe next time!

Submitted(+1)

Well I've put it on my list for ideas not to forget about :)

I think doing it as a vertical scroller like you did was a really smart idea because it always means you have a continuous source of things for the player to do, whereas if you had a static map to explore you might accidentally go to an empty region and run out of time.

This was really addicting! Reminds me a lot about the introductory stage for Spore or the old game "Flow"!

Just had a bit of trouble figuring out which materials I needed to evolve, but I got up to evolution stage 7:) This game really piqued my curiosity as I got up per stage, but it got increasingly difficult😅

Overall I really enjoyed this game, it's really charming, and I love how user-friendly it is!:)

Developer(+1)

Ooh, I love hearing the word "addicting", isn't that what we all strive for? :D The materials not being easily identified is the most common feedback I get, that would take some serious redesign. You almost got to the end - after stage 9 ! Thanks for playing my game!

Really well-made game. I really enjoyed it. Nice music.

Developer

Thank you! This was the first time I added music, and it did really help to set the mood.

Submitted(+1)

The game got me. I always played wondering about the next stage. it was really successful.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! I so wanted to bring more variety to the later stages, but time ran out :) I'm planning to build a bigger game off this prototype, though.

Nice and relaxing game. I got up to evolution 9.

I had trouble identifying which genetic pieces to pick up to proceed to the next stage. I just randomly hovered over everything that popped-up. Sometimes it took a long time just waiting for one piece to click in.

Other than that, I liked the game a lot!

Great game!

Developer

Aah, you almost made it! Thanks for the feedback!

Nice little game, as other said, some tweaks could make it great, but it is very good for a jam.

Congrats and good luck!

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

A very nice game!

Evolving and mating is a very nice mechanic, although it was a bit weird at times, sometimes when I evolve I die  instantly (maybe a red dot was under me and I ate it when I evolved?), and sometimes I'd wait for a quite a bit till I can find a mate or a body to get to, also I couldn't understand what other things do, like the jellyfish and the weird spiky thing at the beginning, but nonetheless it was pretty fun, the music was solid, and it felt good to control.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! There's really a lot of stuff that is just random and can lead to mishaps like dying instantly or having to wait forever. Not enough time for tweaking and balancing... the other creatures don't do anything specific, other than potentially eating you. In an extended version, I would want to give them different behaviors, and have lots more variety.

awesome game, was very relaxing, but also challenging, weird combo that worked well

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it!

Great game. The spawning system needs a little tweaking, sometimes shapes wont spawn for awhile or the mate wont spawn so you end up dying. Well done.

Developer

Thank you! I agree, there's a lot of balancing and tweaking to be done, most of it is just randomness. But I have to say, I'm just glad people generally are able to make sense of the mechanics at all :)

I couldn't immediately tell what I needed to pick up but once I did I really liked it. It reminds me of the cell stage of spore, a lot of what works in the vibe of that game seems to work here for me. The movement and collecting mechanics are pretty satisfying when you know what to do. Really good job.

Developer(+1)

I am a little embarassed to admit, but I never played spore. Probably should. Glad you liked the mechanics, I tried at least to make sure it felt smooth :)

Submitted(+1)

It was very interesting. The movement was smooth and the audio choice seemed to fit the stages as well. The things to collect after mating was just a bit confusing, I was just moving around trying to get whatever looked safe to pass over.

Developer(+1)

I agree, the collectibles are hard to identify. I tried my best, but ultimately didn't have time for another pass on the art assets. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

This was pretty fun. It reminded me a lot of the cell stage in Spore like someone else had mentioned. I think one thing I would suggest is providing a bit more feedback when needing to collect the material for evolution (the period after you find a mate, I mean). Basically, I never really knew what I needed to get. I knew it needed to be those white outlined objects but I didn't know why sometimes I'd pick them up and other times I'd keep on passing over them.

Great work with this though!

Developer(+1)

Ok, I need to play Spore, it seems :D The collection mechanism definitely needs a better design, completely agree. It's at times even hard for myself to see why I can't pick something up.

Submitted(+1)

Wow what a great game! You really made something very good here! Great choice in music and art! Sometimes the right parts to evolve would not spawn and I would have to wait quite a while for rng to get in my favor, maybe you could tweak it in such a way that the components you are missing are more likely to spawn or something? I also could not always spawn into another body after death :(

Developer(+1)

Thank you, glad you liked it! The parts are just spawned randomly, so you often have to wait a lot. I'd have wanted to make sure things appear for certain after some time, but didn't get to that before the deadline. Hm, not being able to "possess" another body is new to me. Do you mean, nothing compatible (a small blue creature) showed up, or you just couldn't take it over?

Submitted(+1)

I first tried to posses a non blue one, since some seem to still have a colour and not the white/muted colour of the ones you cannot "possess", which would also be a great feature but when I noticed that that was not possible I kept waiting for a long while for a blue one to appear.

Developer(+1)

I see, thanks for the feedback!

Played and rated. Such a unique game, well done!

The concept is very fun and relaxing! I love how it fits the theme while at the same time being more fun to play by resurrecting in another body. I made it to the surface thanks to that mechanic!

Would appreciate if you check out and rate our game too: https://hadilepanda.itch.io/rise-of-necromancy

Developer(+1)

Thanks a ton! I'm so relieved the concept worked out as intended :) Will get to your game later today.

I will rate this in a few hours but the description seems like the cell stage of spore? I will get back to you.
