  • Classic graphics style in this game worked well for the screen size. There's opportunity to polish it up more but obviously there's a time limit in a jam. I found this game to be SUPER fun, and was quite happy with the way you went about using the theme. Though there were no SFX, the music was awesome and was good to get the player in the mood for the fighting. There was the bug of R/M not working once you died but I believe you were aware of that. I found the basic controls nice and easy to use. I played this game over and over and over. I think there's potential to make it multiplayer or even move to mobile if you want to sell it. Great job!
  • Congratulations on your completed entry into the Fireside's first ever Game Jam!
  • I am terrible at twin stick shooters. But this was fun. The healing mechanic is a cool idea, and a nice little twist on a basic twin stick. Issues: -Slippery controls, I'd try to stop and turn around and I'd slide for too long before moving, which would mean I'd get hit more often. -Are you deleting bullets after a timer or anything? Because the game starts to lag after a certain point, and I have a feeling that has to do with bullets not being deleted at any point. Overall, Nice little game, works as intended, but in need of a few tweaks.

Controls are janky, but the game is overall well executed. Wish it had some form of difficulty scaling though, like speeding up enemies or their fire rate as your score goes up to keep things fresh. And it is laggy, did you not make bullets get destroyed after getting off-screen?

All in all, good game! I had fun playing it.

This was fun! Funny story, I saw the instructions on the title screen, went "sweet, Binding of Isaac controls!", and proceeded to do everything backward until I realized the game actually had the opposite of BoI controls and crossed my hands over each other so I wasn't fighting my muscle memory, so I have to agree with what others are saying about WASD and arrow keys. I really liked the tradeoff of moving slower while healing, and just wish it felt like it mattered more (or sooner, at least). The game started to drop frames at around score 150 or so, which seems odd for a game that seems pretty easy on processing, but I can't say if this was a too many enemies on screen or a web build or a memory leak issue. But overall, this is a nicely put together game!

This is a nice looking game, I can tell a lot of visual polish went into it! I think if you want to expand it, you might want to play a few more top down twin stick shooters to get some inspirations.  One of the tricky things about it for me was the general convention for control in these games is that WASD moves and arrow keys shoot, so this was actually really hard to wrap my head around. Also the controls could be tightened  up a bit, they felt really slippery and you move much faster horizontally than vertically, and your small bullets make it very hard to hit enemies especially those tiny slimes. Overall, I think the visuals and sound of this game is really great, and with a bit of tightening on the controls you'll have a great game on your hands!

fun i just wish it would not lag  and the heal was a little more consistent  but i defiantly  see my self coming back to this game

Music was an unexpected win for me, brought back feeling of Lamatron lol.

Controls I got them but the shoot mechanic felt a bit clunky, and the sucking life energy bit was a nice touch on the theme.

That's a cool game! For some reason the controls felt completely backwards to me and took some getting used to (i kept wanting to move with WASD and shoot with arrow keys). It reminds me a lot of that cowboy arcade game that you play in the bar in Stardew Valley. Lots of fun! I think you did a good job sticking to a palette and choosing some cool music which goes a long way towards making an enjoyable experience, though I would have liked some sound effects and a few more polish details (screen shake and particle effects would really have worked well here I think.) Music is pretty cool, I'm going to have to check out the artist!

I read through your post, the submission info, and the other reviews and your comments and still couldn't figure out the relation to the theme on this one, but overall I think it's a good game and a job well done.

Thanks for your feedback MightyJor! I'm thinking of swapping the controls to wasd and mouse instead of making it keyboard only. That way it would be less confusing. Also, the Cowboy arcade game is where I got inspiration to make this game, so kudos for noticing ๐Ÿ˜‰. I thought that the healing feature would tie the game into the theme, but I guess it's not very noticeable and need some reworking.

a fun game ! but there is some bugs around that need to get ride of, the music keep repeating it self, i dont know why and sometimes it just stop on its own, the game lags sometimes am not sure why, the idea is really cool and fit the theme well ! and the music fits the game very well and made me want to play the game more ! but yes the lag and the music repeating is a bit annoying to handle, and its a bit easy, if it was harder it will be more fun to play :D i killed my self to see the end of the game, a bug was there as well, when i press R to restart nothing happenes and when i press M to go to menu also nothing happenes, regardless the bugs, its a well made game idea ! good job <3

Your right I forgot to setup the restart button ๐Ÿ˜…. Thanks for noticing that. For some reason the web version lags after some time so I'll try to fix that.

Damn that music is jamming! unfortunately the lack of sound effects (and having only one Audio category) means I had to dock a few points there.

Overall it's a fun little top down wave shooter, though the difficulty should ramp up a bit faster, I got bored before I died, and I'm not sure how the game fits the theme at all.

Overall I did enjoy it though.

Developer

I appreciate your feedback ๐Ÿ˜Š! I'll definitely try to add some sound effects and scale the difficulty better.

Nice game! I would prefer to use the mouse to aim at enemies instead of using wasd for that though.

Developer

Ooo that's an interesting idea I'll be sure to test it out

The music was good but I'm not sure if it fits the game? I wish there were some sound effects for the bullets and the enemies, maybe just not enough time to finish? I was engaged enough to get a score of about 130 but it was a bit too easy so I stopped playing as there wasn't really much of a reward for going further. Not sure the rejuvenation theme fit with just allowing your character to heal from dead enemies. Still, the controls are good and I did like being able to heal from lots of dead enemies at once. It could be developed further where it would be part of your strategy to kill the enemies in one area of the screen so that you could quickly heal, but at the moment its too easy for that strategy to matter.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback kokutouchichi! I did run out of time ๐Ÿ˜… (poor time management on my part). I'll definitely release an update with sound effects and more balanced difficulty, after the judging period is finished.
