  • Firstly, I like the idea and the graphics. The issues I had with this game: -All of the enemies have way too much health. -Melee on melee combat was extremely hard to do, and I would just intentionally go back to being a skeleton in order to have an easier time against the melee enemies. -The human form looks impressive, but because you have to move in order to attack, lining up a hit was very difficult, and honestly not worth it. I was a lot more effective just using the skeleton instead. -I could, and did, decide to just run past all of the enemies at one point and go straight for the boss. I did however enjoy the boss battle when I got there, that was done well. Overall: A good looking game, that has some cool ideas and mechanics. 馃憤
  • A unique interpretation on rejuvenation through leveling scored well. Some dainty music would have added to the feel, but your SFX were well done if minimal. I really liked your modern take on the classic graphics style. I found the attack range and hit boxes were hard to judge making combat a bit difficult. As well, the timers made life difficult to progress to human let alone go for the boss. Attack types were interesting choices and I applaud you on your creative style.
  • Congratulations on your completed entry into the Fireside's first ever Game Jam!

This was a fun game with clever mechanics! Being able to switch between forms was a unique idea and kept the gameplay pretty engaging. Unfortunately, I got stuck at the final boss.  No matter what I did I  couldn't seem to beat him before I turned into a ghost. The biggest problem was I  would get to the point where I was a human and whack him a bunch with my mace, but that spawned a ton of zombies which killed me almost instantly. Giving the player some invincibility frames would be really helpful.     I also think the timer is a bit overkill on difficulty and just having transformations linked to health is enough.  I thought the art was really great and unique and all the little animations were fun as well. Overall, really great game!

Thanks a lot! I agree that the boss was harder than it should and that the timer may need to go.

Really cool concept, but had a lot of little decisions that left the game feeling pretty hostile. Failure is punishing, but if you take things too slowly, you're punished for that, too. For how much of combat is running away from enemies, it felt bad not to be able to shoot in a direction other than the one I was moving in. And enemies all sponged damage, with levelling up not increasing damage in a noticeable way. That all said, the graphics were all superb and I enjoyed playing this!

Yep, I wish I had made combat less about running away. I was going to put in more enemy types, but time got me first.

A tale as old as game jams...

I really enjoyed this game, I got sucked in and spent a while trying to win the boss battle (I didn't) it it possible? I liked the zombie player most as he made short work of the Skeletons.

I did drift and cheat though some of the mid section as a ghost and ball and chain although could have been good was a bit hard to master.

Definitely on theme

Developer

That's no cheating, the game can be played in any way you like :-) And yes, it is possible to win the boss battle, but I'll agree that it's much harder than it should.

Great looking game and cool concept. Game had a great progression concept but did find the human's swinging ball mechanic a bit hard to get a handle of. Perhaps a separate button to swing it as opposed to having it swing when you moved may have helped? Overall, great game that nails the theme!

Super cool game! You did an incredible job with the pixel art, characters are all super cute. I really enjoyed the boss as well!  I really appreciate you not sending the player back to the beginning when you die...that can be a game killer for someone like me who isn't that great at these games. I thought all the  3rd party assets were well used and added a lot to the game. I also really appreciated the dialogue.  I  think the skeleton is really the ideal way to play since the zombie attack was basically worthless against other zombies. I also think a healthbar for the enemies would help a lot because sometimes it was tough to tell if an attack would register. Ultimately though, the game is great and you did great work!

a very good graphics but i don't really understand the game, the only thing i managed to do is going from ghost to skull and from skull to ghost <.> and exploring the map without getting killed, i like the sound effects tho <3

Developer(+1)

That's a shame! The game is about killing enemies on time not to lose HP,  which in turn makes you go from a ghost all the way to a human. Thanks for the comment!

Wow this is a great game! Really liked the graphics and the little zombie guy! The different modes of skelton/zombie/human really fit into the theme well too. The easiest to play was the zombie because you could stand right next to the skeletons diagonally and cheeze them a bit to win... or so I thought till the zombies appeared! I really like the ramp up on difficulty. This is was a really fun game. I would maybe add different speeds for the different modes perhaps? Human can walk faster than the zombie, zombie faster than the skeleton etc, just to give it a bit more variety. But wow, really great effort in such a short amount of time!

Developer

Thanks a lot for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Fun fact: there is actually a slight difference of speed between the different forms: ghost > skeleton > zombie = human, but it's so little it's barely noticeable haha

I love the visuals and the sound is pretty good. Also the overall idea is very cool. But it's too difficult.  Getting hit comes with too big a penalty, combined with the very strict time limit to find your next kill (especially as a human), you just run out of enemies you can use to rank up. The timer is the real issue, as even just reading the text takes long enough to level down again.  I restarted every time I ranked down to skeleton as there just wasn't enough enemies to rank up. After a few restarts I was too frustrated to continue.

Developer

Thanks for the comment! I have a problem with balancing, so I completely agree with you. The timer is supposed to be very short so that the player has to be constantly fighting and adapting their play style, but apparently it didn't work out as well as I hoped.

perhaps resetting the timer on damage rather than kill might have helped... it's a really solid concept for a game, and just a little balancing will make it very fun so I hope to see some udpates after the jam :)

Developer

Thanks for the suggestion. And yes, I will probably update it after the jam in one way or another. :-)
