  • Wow, genuinely surprised by how fun this ended up being since shooters like this aren't usually my thing, but this was one of my favorites! Small choices here were great -- even just the zoom in at the start of the level that lets you see where enemies are starting. Great pacing and introduction of new enemies. At first I was like dang, I can only shoot from one side? But the custom ship feature realigned that belief pretty quickly! Only word of wisdom is that the music being intense the whole time can be a bit tiring and make it overall less powerful. Different track for ship customization and menu would be great.
  • The combat is really fun and the upgrades you get between stages add a lot of variety. Sometimes dodging projectiles felt a little rough, but other than that I don't have any complaints.
  • Its giving Vampire Survivor but make it Asteroids! Wish the movement/turning felt more fluid, otherwise I enjoyed the roguelike elements and shipbuilding alot.

How does the game fit into the theme?
With only your left and right arrowkeys, you must steer your ship to dodge bullets and align your weapons to blast away your enemies. You can't stop moving forward. Good luck and have fun!

Also, we're planning to expand this and put it on Steam. Check out the page here and wishlist! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3592710/Neon_Striker/

Jam Judge

Hi, I'm hedge one of your judges! Played at https://twitch.tv/hedge_in at 1:33:25 <3 (Part 2)

It's a very cool game, I really liked it.

That's what you need, it doesn't really matter how you move, the main thing is the weapons you choose.

And of course, the explosions, which require special respect, are very high-quality in both senses.

Cool game mechanic that lets you replay the game to try diff combos

Really cool concept with lots of creative mechanics! I had a great time playing

This is a really fun game! This music and this drive make me feel like a real starship warrior, fighting my enemies. I never give up and always keep going. Your game makes me laugh and I have a lot of fun playing it. The graphics are simple but they look cool and match the gameplay perfectly. The music is great and makes you feel like you're in a Star Battles. Great job! This game is so much fun

loved the customization, and upgrades, very cool idea

There's some very cool ideas going on in this game, and I love the visual aesthetic, it works so well. While playing it, I did often wish that the field of view was larger so that I could try to plan ahead more, rather than mostly just having to react to things as they appeared on the screen so close to my ship.  But overall I really enjoyed it, played all the way through Act 1. Great Job!

i love the equipping wepons mechanic and the art. Really fun game!

There are some really interesting ideas in this game, like the method for equipping weapons. Having to decide where to put each weapon I think adds for some interesting strategy. The gameplay itself was also quite fun, and I felt really powerful as the commander of the ship.

I also really like the visual presentation. The resolution though might be a bit too big and maybe it could be smaller since I had to spend time trying to fit the window on my screen but that might just be a device issue. In general, this was fun!

This is reaaally good! You nailed the rougelike type of game. The style and looks is also really good. Fun and polished game.

"Love the graphics and mechanics! I usually don’t enjoy this kind of game genre, but the level design was epic that made me really enjoy the game! I wish the attack speed were a bit faster and that the enemy and player attacks were more distinguishable. But overall, really nice game and sound design! <3

Very nice game, the mechanics of upgrading the ship and its combinations make it very replayable. The music and art with its scene transitions are very well done.

A very complete game, good job! :D

Absolutely fricking love this game!!! I think I havent even played my own game for this long. Actually crazy how addicting it is to get over powered just to be put in your place by literally a hundred enemy ships. After act 1 my only fear was that that was it. Amazing game man!!!
I have one question: The game allowed me to stack multiple items in one slot but i could never figure out if that actually applied these changes to the ship. Could I just stack 10 weapons in 1 slot?

Thanks for the feedback! The weapon stacking is a bug that I introduced last minute when I deleted some unused code. Turns out that code had use after all!

I already have the fix ready but we can't modify the files until after the jam is over.

Omg music totally rocks! i love the upgrade system being related to the inventory slot system too.

Really fun! I like the basic ideas a lot! Reminds me of a star wars spaceship me and my brother made when we were kids! Good work, the polish is great too.
