Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous and shown in a random order.

  • The graphics are nice, movement is really smooth! But it feels like it'll be easier to play if you included more obvious instructions.
  • Really cool take on the theme! Was very easy to get momentum fast, and not as challenging as it could be especially considering you get hearts, but the mechanics were fantastic and the particles were 10/10. Great tutorial and not info dumping at the start, good pacing!
  • I really like how you used the theme. Having movement speed affect your damage is a really cool and unique idea. The music and art style also worked really well. Nice work!
  • This was a really interesting rpg take on the theme and I loved it! This mechanic makes top down rpgs like Legend of Zelda way more fun to me and I'd play more if I could!

How does the game fit into the theme?
You play as a fighter who becomes more powerful as he moves forward. Keep moving forward to build momentum and power up your attacks! Getting hit when your momentum is low will cause you to lose your hat, leaving you vulnerable to extra damage.

What premade assets did you use if any?
A NES Soundpack from OpenGameArt.org by "shiru8bit."
https://opengameart.org/content/nes-8-bit-sound-effects
A few sound effects from Freesound.org mostly from "timgormly."
everything else I made including the music!

What are the Discord usernames of everyone on your team?
Duke or "dukejukem4"

Did you use MiniScript for your entry?

No

Did you use Playroom for your entry?

No

Hi, I'm hedge one of your judges! Played at https://twitch.tv/hedge_in at 51:13 <3

Thank you! I watched the stream! Just to let you know, I am indeed planning on making this a full game. You can track the progress on my discord if you're interested: https://discord.gg/5cHtEwze

It's a very beautiful and dynamic game.

Really cool game, well polished.  I did struggle lining up attacks and know if i was inline with enemies whenever I attacked them,  my game also slowed down a lot in the cave section with the enemy that fires projectiles.  Other than that a really cool game.

What a great game! I really liked it, the mechanics are very fun and original to me, and the music is epic, it fits very well with the narrative and the style.

I really loved it, excellent work! :D

really cool mechanic and very addicting lol

Very nice game !

This is probably my favorite game in the jam. I love the effects, sounds, and idea. Fast paced and fun!

Love the chiptune music. The pixel art is super nice. Really cool gameplay mechanic. I really like it!

I did get stuck on a wall when "changing rooms" with full momentum and I couldn't get unstuck and had to reset.

Developer

Oops! Which area of the map was it by chance?

Submitted

It was right after you go outside of the tutorial cave, the cliff areas to the right. It actually didn't require full momentum when I recreated it.

very satisfiying gameplay! Sound fits perfectly! I love the hat mechanic! - Really good job!

It was a lot of fun to play. This is my favorite from this jam. The boss is quite difficult because of the spam.

Very nice game to play and the stabbing and running away was super engaging. (i love hit and run) in game ofc

Submitted

Loved it! Kicking and stabbing felt extremely satisfying, and the whole package was delivered in a really polished game!

This is a very satisfying game to play very good take on the theme

This one is so impressive ! The core mechanic is very cool and i really like the vibe of the game. My only complaint is that it does not seem to support AZERTY keyboards and that means I've got to use ZQSD to move which is not very conveniant. Anyway the hat mechanic is such a clever idea, I had a blast playing ! Congrats !

I really like this one! Consistent look and feel, great animation everywhere, just a blast to play.

It would work much better if the mouse wasn’t required for attacking. Even better, could it be made to work with gamepads? That would jibe with the SNES look and feel.

I hope you do build it out further after the jam, that would be awesome!

Developer

Thank you! Yes gamepads controls would be something to add. I'm thinking of turning it into an action adventure game like zelda! If you want to follow the progress I put my progress on projects in my discord: https://discord.gg/QaxfmzzQ

Really creative interpretation of the theme! Was really fun to play!

This game looks amazing, well done on the visuals. Love the pixel art style.

Beautiful game and fun to play,  a minor addition I think would be nice is to allow the character to move diagonally.

Developer

Thank you! That would be neat, but then i have to animate all that lmao!

really nice polish on this game! the combat / movement is unique and fun to try and get used to.

Developer
