At first I had no idea what to do but when I read in other comments that it’s basically just blackjack wrapped in stock market visuals it became actually fun to play!

This is a fun one! Once I wrapped my head around how it worked, the higher-or-lower x blackjack game got really interesting. I was confused for a minute, though I should have read the tutorial first! It's very intuitive once I grasp it, I wish I knew what the unicorn valuation was at the end of each round though.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Based on the feedback I'm seeing, I have plenty of ideas to incorporate after the jam - including showing the Unicorn valuation

The game looks awesome! I liked the mechanics and it's quite understandable, so I would recommend giving it a shot.

Well done!

Developer

Thanks! :)

Hey I went to check out your game but I can only download Linux builds or play web builds. Let me know if you upload either of those!

Cool game! I got 2185000! I like the game idea and the sfx.

Developer

Hey thanks for playing!

Very polished game! Basically blackjack with a stock market scheme skin, it would be really funny if real stocks worked like this.

BRAKING NEWS: Warren Buffet suddenly loses 349 billion dollars in 5 minutes because his opponent got lucky and won 21 times in a row

Developer

Wait, it doesn't? That explains why I keep losing money in the stock market

Wow, really fresh gameplay.  Although I felt it might lack a bit of in-game guidance, it was still a lot of fun once I followed the tutorial you added in the comments:)

Developer

Thanks for checking out and for the lovely comment! Unfortunately, currently I can only try web games so I couldn't check out yours :(

Very fun and creative game, great visuals, I was making a lot of profit, took a risk, and almost lost everything haha

Developer

Thank you for playing Askin!

Great interpretation on the theme and pretty cool implementation! The effects on the UI are very enjoyable. Congrats!

Developer

Thanks phrbmr!

The concept is really cool! It took me a second to figure out what i was supposed to be doing but it wasn't too confusing. The seed number was overlapping the confirm seed button for some reason but it might be my specific browser that was the issue.

Developer(+1)

Yeah I messed up a bit on the UI layout and if the vertical size of the screen is not > 720 px or so, things get squished. I've since fixed it but of course I can only upload the new version after the jam is over. Thanks for playing !

This was really original, I liked the visual style of it all! The feedback from clicks is also really snappy!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Very different from other games which is really nice. Gj!

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing !

This one took me a bit to understand, having a better tutorial would be quite nice, but it was fun once I got it!

For other people: The game is pretty much just Blackjack. You want to either get a higher evaluation than the market leader (basically the dealer), while staying under 21M, and if they go over 21 you also win the round. Seed money is your bet, funding means drawing another card, and risking it I think is Double Down?

The game would be a lot clearer if it was more transparent about what it is, but the presentation makes it pretty fun :D

Thanks for playing, and for your feedback! I agree that the info popup is lacking any real ...info. I had initially added all the rules in a list on the Help/ Info page but then removed those as it felt like I was holding the player's hand too much. But given the feedback from you as well as from some others, now I should probably add the Rules back to make it clear what the game is (and yeah, it's a variation of blackjack like you said):

  • A startup can have a valuation between 18 to 24 (both inclusive)
  • Your aim is to get as close as to the valuation as possible but the valuation is not shown to you (and it's not necessarily 21, it can be anything between 18 and 24)
  • If the market (dealer) goes above 24, they go bust and you win
  • If you go above 24, you go bust and the market wins
  • Risk it is a special mechanic like a double down: You are committing to picking just one more card to submit your final guess but this means that IF you win, you will get 4X the return
  • If you guess the valuation precisely (Unicorn), you will get a payout either 3X, 4X or 5X.
  • if you win but were not perfect in your valuation, you get 2X of your investment instead
  • The real payout happens when both the Risk it multiplier and the Unicorn multiplier happen simultaneously- either 12X, 16X or 20X

Hopefully that makes sense, and I'd love to know if adding all this to the help/ info popup will make sense (it seems like that's the feedback so far)

Ooooh so that is why sometimes it felt like I lost at random, it's just an unknown number between 18 and 24?
It does feel like a bit of a crapshoot then when you don't know what the number is, like technically it is a risk management game then but you can't really calculate or estimate risk or chances properly when you don't know what you are aiming for. I'm not sure that I'm a fan of that particular mechanic, though I guess it does certainly make the game a lot more risky. That definitely seems like something that should be more explicitely stated in the game yes,

Developer

Hmm, I see! This is really valuable feedback so thank you so much for that. One feature I had considered but never got around to was to provide a "Risk Meter", this will become more green the closer you get to the value. But perhaps you are right and having the valuation exposed right at the start may be better. I'll have to rethink a few things after the Jam voting is over

now i feel motivated to go gambling with my pension fund!

Developer

Well, congratulations on all the insane wealth you're about to acquire then!

I felt like a big city investor!  Got bankrupt a few times but happy with this final score. I almost had a lot more right before the end... such is life :-)

Developer(+1)

Not bad at all! Thanks for playing :)

And .. investment skills in the game are not transferrable to the real world unfortunately. Don't ask me how I know 😬

Submitted(+1)

It's a little confusing sometimes, and I think a tutorial would help a lot because it took me a while to start understanding it. I really like it though, and it feels and looks polished. I'll probably come back to try and actually figure it out.

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for checking it out! I hope you do come back later, and hopefully I'd have added a tutorial by then 🤞

went bankrupt a few times but ended the 40 investments with $500 mil! very fun little game though i doubt it'll help me in real life stock exchanges lol

Developer

500 mil is VERY impressive (one of the highest I've seen)!

And yeah, I made the game to make up for losing money in the real stock market so the skills from the game are definitely not transferrable lol

Submitted(+1)

This reminded me of my real investing, at first it was great i just kept going 20% then and was doing well up to 18m then i got greedy went 100% and lost it all! I do think some kinda of music would have helped get me in the mood.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Agree on the music, I just left it too late, it took me too long to balance the game so that, hopefully, one can find a strategy or two for getting more consistent returns.

Submitted(+1)

Really good idea and execution! The visuals are incredible, and it hooks you in super fast.

Developer

Oh wow, thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked it!
