This one took me a bit to understand, having a better tutorial would be quite nice, but it was fun once I got it!

For other people: The game is pretty much just Blackjack. You want to either get a higher evaluation than the market leader (basically the dealer), while staying under 21M, and if they go over 21 you also win the round. Seed money is your bet, funding means drawing another card, and risking it I think is Double Down?

The game would be a lot clearer if it was more transparent about what it is, but the presentation makes it pretty fun :D

Thanks for playing, and for your feedback! I agree that the info popup is lacking any real ...info. I had initially added all the rules in a list on the Help/ Info page but then removed those as it felt like I was holding the player's hand too much. But given the feedback from you as well as from some others, now I should probably add the Rules back to make it clear what the game is (and yeah, it's a variation of blackjack like you said):

  • A startup can have a valuation between 18 to 24 (both inclusive)
  • Your aim is to get as close as to the valuation as possible but the valuation is not shown to you (and it's not necessarily 21, it can be anything between 18 and 24)
  • If the market (dealer) goes above 24, they go bust and you win
  • If you go above 24, you go bust and the market wins
  • Risk it is a special mechanic like a double down: You are committing to picking just one more card to submit your final guess but this means that IF you win, you will get 4X the return
  • If you guess the valuation precisely (Unicorn), you will get a payout either 3X, 4X or 5X.
  • if you win but were not perfect in your valuation, you get 2X of your investment instead
  • The real payout happens when both the Risk it multiplier and the Unicorn multiplier happen simultaneously- either 12X, 16X or 20X

Hopefully that makes sense, and I'd love to know if adding all this to the help/ info popup will make sense (it seems like that's the feedback so far)

Ooooh so that is why sometimes it felt like I lost at random, it's just an unknown number between 18 and 24?
It does feel like a bit of a crapshoot then when you don't know what the number is, like technically it is a risk management game then but you can't really calculate or estimate risk or chances properly when you don't know what you are aiming for. I'm not sure that I'm a fan of that particular mechanic, though I guess it does certainly make the game a lot more risky. That definitely seems like something that should be more explicitely stated in the game yes,

Hmm, I see! This is really valuable feedback so thank you so much for that. One feature I had considered but never got around to was to provide a "Risk Meter", this will become more green the closer you get to the value. But perhaps you are right and having the valuation exposed right at the start may be better. I'll have to rethink a few things after the Jam voting is over
