I really liked this game! The art and music is incredible, the writing is amazing and hilarious. This is a very well polished narrative game that is very enjoyable to play. Well done!

A pretty cool narrative/dialogue based game! Great job!

a very cool game, im not a fan of this kind of games, but the design is of the overall map is great, the dialog system is really cool, and the character design is awesome, the elevator and that menu are a great way to explore the map, congratulations to you or your team!

This was a cool linear narrative "puzzle" game.

Theme:

So less is more, I guess  was because you have a such lowly position in the castle, and you are trying to do more with it? I just didn't see a full connection to the theme. Maybe an explanation on the game page would have helped here.

Visuals:

The visual were definitely the star of the show here. Multiple character designs that were unique and worked well with the style.  Recycling the background effectively to have a larger world also played into your favor.  Some assets did seem out of place or unfinished, which is fine for this large of scope of a game. Also the animations were a little lacking. But I loved the little stubby leg kicks while walking.  The text for the dialogue worked very well! Great work in this category!

Innovation:

A story driven game is not incredibly unique, but what you provided was a very solid experience.  And it helped that this type of game was not very common in this jam, which helped differentiate itself!

Sounds/Music:

The sound effects were on the average side of things. Sounds you'd expect showed up such as the elevator "Ding", but  again this area felt unfinished and unpolished compared to the visuals . The music of the game was very nice though. More variety would have been nice, but the game was short enough  to  not be a major issue.

Overall:

This was a solid experience all the way through. Though I had issues I spotted, it didn't fully detract from the game's experience. I had fun reading the dialogue although some of it was out of place meme injections, and enjoyed the games visual the entirety of the game. The sound department was a little lacking, but worked for what the game was. So if you like silly dialogue, back and forth fetch quests, and a cliffhanger (I shall never forgive thee of lack of a proper ending lol), then this narrative puzzle game will be just right for you. So check it out!

I streamed it here, starts at minute  29:

Oh wow! Thank you for playing and leaving this feedback! Loved your playthrough :) Super appreciate that you actually finished it too!  To be honest, we did lose the theme during development but it had to do with his low-position as a servent-yes! Lots of room for improvement in many of the categories so we're hoping to polish it up after the jam. Glad you enjoyed it! Will be checking out your game for sure!

Great game! Really loved the atmosphere and the music, the art style for the characters was really great also! :)

Fun game! I included it in my Blackthornprod GAME JAM #3 compilation video series!

I have already said this but I'll say it again: I absolutely love the style of the game. It's simple, short, sweet, cute, and funny!

Cool game, accidentally threw an item through a door and couldn't get it back haha. Wish there could've been a pause menu to restart the game. But I understand that this is only 1 week. I love the subtle UI animations when entering the elevator. Keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yea the game has its share of bugs oops XD Used DoTween for the first time for a lot of the animations, it was awesome! Thanks for playing~

Awesome games, some parts were very funny and the art and music really gave the game real atmosphere. Cant wait for part 2.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed :D

Nice little scheme. It would be nice to have some sort of branching narrative stuff going on. I liked how you had to search around for the key. It would be interesting if multiple items could accomplish the same thing in a different way.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Definitely keen to expand the story and mechanics. Those are some great ideas! Thanks for playing :)

loved the ratatouille reference. also nice to see a narrative-driven game (and most of the medieval english was correct?) It's simple but it's a design by subtraction principle which suits the theme of the jam :)

(unrelated but out of curiosity were you in miziziziz's video?)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Haha thank you! The old English was mixed with modern English just for readability purposes.

And yes! I was lucky to be part of Miziziziz's four game devs jam off the same art kit video alongside Blackthornprod as well, such a cool opportunity :D

Thank you so much :D

The control scheme took awhile for me to get the hang of but I got there! There's a LOT of art here, it's insane how much you got done in a week. I was little lost through the story as I think I did things out of order.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing! Yea you need to meet the knight on the left side first! I forgot to position the camera properly at the beginning... whoops XD

I liked the game, I thought the writing was good and really helped tie together the entire game, it was really funny a times. I got to the point where I had to "unlocketh the Stewarts door" but it wouldn't unlock and I couldn't find a key anywhere.

Overall fun game!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! The key is at the end of the chapel floor ^.^ But you were almost done the game anyways haha

The production value in this is very high, I loved the look, the writing, the sound and music. Was a bit disappointed by the ending, but it's understandable considering time constraints. I'm not entirely sure what you were going for with the theme, is it referring to class, as in a member of the lower class becoming something more?

Developer(+1)

Thank you! It really was a team effort :) Yup we didnt have time to wrap up the game properly and figure out a satisfying ending haha You could even say its up to your interpretation XD (less is more, am i right? haha) We really did lose the theme a bit during development. The initial idea was that he is a lowly servant but through his duties and conversations- he uses the information to his advantage to kill the king!

Developer(+1)

Awesome work, I love the art and the concept. Bravo

Developer(+1)

And amazing work on the music, it really wrapped everything together! Awesome job!

The game is very buggy (if i walk like the elevator is moving i clip into the ground, i can throw the rat OOB making the game impossible to beat, some walls have no colliders) but the story is quite intriguing!! Good Job!!

Developer(+1)

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to fix some of those bugs even though they were on my list :(  Thanks for playing :D

Submitted

Just to clarify. When i say that the game is buggy i don't mean in in a bad way: The game is great, i had so much fun with it and i can see how much effort you put in it!!

It's just that sometimes i focus so much on the bad of a game, that i forgot to say/notice the good things in it... xD (I hope i didn't make you feel bad about it... just in case i did... Sorry!! :C)

Developer(+1)

Haha no worries, I figured! Some bugs can ruin the experience as well, I need to get better at managing that! Thanks for the kind words!!

Submitted(+1)

What an ambitious entry! I know how hard it can be to implement dialogue systems under these time constraints, and you've managed not only that, but some item puzzles, and an awesome elevator system to boot!
Love the art style and the sound design, and the writing still has me chuckling now that I'm finished.

The only real downsides are a couple of missing colliders, and the jiggling message window, while cute, might make it difficult for some people to read the dialogue.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeaa the dialogue system was a pain haha but it's something I've always wanted to try and this was the perfect opportunity. Thank you for playing and all the nice words! Appreciate the feedback as well, can't wait to polish this one up!

Submitted(+1)

Yeah it worked really well 😀

Look forward to playing it again once you're done with it!
