What do you like about your game?
I'm really glad that I was able to actually finish a project, especially in such a short span of time relative to what I normally make (or start making anyway).

Neat game man! The music made it feel dramatic (in a good way) and the ending of the game was really climactic! There seemed to be no z-ordering for the objects in the game though. Anyhow great job on the game, and good luck!

Developer(+1)

Thanks, glad you like the music :). I’m proud that I was able to get that music done in such a short span of time. I wish I could’ve polished some of the visuals more, like you said with layers, but I’ve never used Unity tilemaps like this before so I really just wanted to get something playable.

I have exited the dream. But it's still dark here... Am I really awake? I can't get out!
I didn't know if I had something to do in the empty void, but I guess it's the end of the game.

Nice story, and visuals. But damn, she runs fast! I guess it's a dream, so everything is possible ;)
Congratulations on your game. It's very good for a first game jam.

P.S.  I'd love to be able to play the piano too!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback :). I know the ending is a little unclear, but I didn’t have the time to make anything better, and I think ending it like that fits well with the rest of the game’s weirdness.

Has a really unique off-putting vibe that I'd imagine is hard to nail down as the developer. Really reminded me of LSD: Dream Emulator while playing. I read afterwards, that it was an inspiration, so good job!

Developer

Thanks, I’m glad that some of my inspiration came through clearly while you were playing.

This really reminded me of another submission called Walled World. And just like that submission, I absolutely loved this. I was constantly surprised with what i found whereever I'd go. And I was so confused with everything. It really fits the theme, and was very cool and a good experience overall!

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I’ve not seen walled world yet, but I will be adding both it and your game to my ever growing list of submissions that look cool :)

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game, it fits the theme of the jam perfectly, a constant sense of confusion and unexpected outcomes. You did a lot for a jam game, really well done with this! The music fits very well the atmosphere of the game as well!

I went for a much darker interpretation of the word aberration, but keeping the dreamy/confusing components.

Again, really enjoyable and engaging, good luck with it <33333

this game undoubtedly has a certain vibe I can fully appreciate, very nice

Great pixel art and I really like the songs played. I can feel the yumme nikki inspiration in this game. I really vibe with the ethereal atmosphere you built.

Developer

Thanks, I’m glad you thought the atmosphere of the game was good :).

Really fun little game, music is amzing to listen to but also has this creepy vibe to it. little buggy here and there. but its a good game overall, the art design / and npcs are nice maybe add a bit more animation to the player it felt stiff at times but loved it. maybe make it faster or add some shadows to the animation. ( it think others have said the same)

When the screen started turning black I got scared for a second and thought I was gonna get jumpscared, so it made me stand on my toes at all times, great game and I love the art, assets the npc dialogs are cute and fun and it also reminded me a lot of like a japenese style games, like "Yandere Simulator", the same sorter vibe if you get what I mean.

Great job mate!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! The feedback means a lot. I still have a lot to improve with my pixel art animations, but I think it’s a good starting point. Also that Japanese style is exactly what I was going for; my biggest inspirations are all Japanese games, in particular Yume Nikki, LSD: Dream Emulator and to an extent the PS1 Persona games.

Very interesting game, i liked how t changed environments alot the background music was also really nice to listen to while walking about!

Developer

Hi, thanks for playing this on stream :). I wish I could’ve been there live to see your reaction to the game, but I’ve watched the recording now, and it looked like you had fun with it. That black screen means you were trapped in the dream (as you didn’t reach the goal in time), but this was intentionally kept unclear to add to the mystery of the game.

I hope you’ll keep streaming through the rest of the rating period, as there’s a lot of games made for this jam that deserve more visibility.

Submitted(+1)

I will try and go back to see if I can get the actual ending I think it was because I got distracted so I forgot about the time lol ,I plan on streaming more games from this

Submitted(+1)

Interesting game! I definitely felt lost a lot of the time thinking "is this where I'm supposed to be going?", but that's pretty much how I feel in dreams too so nice job.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, that feeling of being lost and confused in a dream-like state was what I was going for :).

Submitted(+1)

I didn’t know what to do at first, but after some time I escaped the dream. The game is fun though quite buggy. It really made me feel uneasy with how the things were out of place and abnormal, I think it fits the theme pretty well. Nice game!

Developer

Thanks for playing :). I wish I had more time to polish it up (like everyone I think), but I’m happy that my intentions and the feeling I wanted to create still came through.

A charming jaunt that gave me a sense of nostalgia for when I first started making games, more importantly it left an impression of surrealism without being heavy handed.

It's great to see someone who is aware of their scope and project management and can still set and reach goals they are proud of. I would have liked it if the NPCs had collision or possibly more things to say, however the lack of narrative cohesion lends itself to the work.

Developer

Thank you. Probably the thing I was most stressed about when I decided to join the jam was not being able to finish something in time, but I’m really pleased that I got the game to the point I felt I could submit.

Submitted(+1)

I was paranoid that I would get jumpscared when the screen started turning black lol. Honestly the entire time I was held in suspense cause I was anticipating something crazy happening. Well done to evoke such a feeling!

Developer

:) Thanks for the feedback, I’m glad the uneasy, feeling of suspense and “something’s not right” came through.

Submitted(+1)

That was a rather fascinating little jaunt. I'll be honest, I really don't have the words to describe it, at least not ones that would probably be of any real value towards the creative process. At the very least it certainly did evoke that dreamlike state one finds themselves in the midst of half-waking and half-sleeping.

I am reminded of a dream that had stuck with me, though I don't believe it had any real meaning. A corridor of doors, doors that led into other doors, and yet doors that I had left unopened. Purposefully. There was fear in opening the doors, perhaps not of what lurked behind them, but rather what I might become after having passed through the threshold.

Turns out it was mostly brought on by others in the house entering and leaving multiple times in a row, it was the sound perhaps, the creaking that invoked the dream. But isn't it interesting what the mind can drum up in those in-between moments of life and the catatonic state of sleep?

Thank you for the memories, yours is a game of self-reflection I think.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for sharing your story, it means a lot to me to know my game has had some sort of impact on someone. I absolutely intended for the game to feel like you’re walking through a dream, so to have reminded you of one of your own dreams makes me feel like I hit that goal well :).

I have a soft spot for these yume nikki like games. Would have been nice if you could talk to people, instead of them talking at you when you walk near.  Might also want to speed up the walking animation for any future projects and include a bit more variation in the walking sprite so that the animation is more noticeable. It was quite the enjoyable little experience.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback :). I will keep those in mind for next time I end up animating characters.

Nice, charming looking game - with a great chilled out atmosphere... great work!

I did feel a little aimless playing it, as in, I wasn't sure what the next objective/goal was - perhaps there isn't any, but I just wondered around the world regardless, which was fun.

Great game world and I enjoyed playing it :)

Developer(+1)

I’m glad you had fun wandering around in the world, that’s exactly what I hoped would happen when people played the game. Thanks for the kind words :).

Submitted(+1)

I really like it! A bite sized dream like exploration that balances its unsettling vibes without becoming overbearing.

The use of a clock as the UI element gave "I'm late for class" feelings  which is perfect considering it's such a common dream archetype.

At a certain point, the wandering became a bit tricky to know where to go. However, that was a perfectly valid way of expressing the surreal setting, which was established very well with your use of blended tilesets. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed wandering around! If I had a little bit more time I would’ve liked to have added some more UI around the clock, but it’s one of the many sacrifices that had to be made so I could finish the project.

Hey there!

Just finished playing and I have a little funny story...well, two stories actually haha. Okay so, when I was playing and got to the piano she says "I wish I could play the piano" and then the piano starts playing, perfectly matching with the background music! I don't know if that was intentional or just a BIG coincidence :>

Also, there's this...creature I saw and when I touched it and I got out of the dream I got really nervous :'') the music was scary and the ENTIRELY black environment was perfect for the moment. After walking for a while the music stops and I stood up and walk away to get some water (A real "OK I'm screwed" moment haha)

Ok, now, a few things to mention:

1- This game is INSANELY good to be a first jam project (If you saw my first game jam project you would...well you would probably feel sorry for me haha)

2- The player animation is really good, I'm a little bit new at pixel art, so when I use this style I render 3D models as pixel art, that's easier for me, which is why I admire you because you probably had to animate every frame (I know it's hard because that's what I tried for my project in this jam haha)

3- The music has the perfect combination between chill and interesting, great job there :)

4- You're Awesome! with a capital A :) if you're this good when you're getting started I can only imagine just how amazing your games are going to be in the future.

That being said, I hope to see you in other Game Jams! Wish you the best :)

(   sorry if this is too much text :T   )

Developer(+1)

Hey! Thanks for all your kind words, you have no idea how much it means to me. I think your experience with the game is exactly what I aimed for when I came up with the idea, so I’m pretty sure I did something right.

The art for this game was the part I was most scared about presentation-wise. I’ve played and composed music for a while so I’m confident with that, but I’ve only really started doing art recently. It was fun but very hard, and I spent a lot of time working on the player, but I’m happy with the result (even if the animations turned out a little wonky)

And the piano thing was a very big coincidence, but I really wish I’d thought of that. Maybe if I fix things up in a post-jam version I might add that.

I’ll have a look at your game once I get home, because that looks cool too, and I hope I see you around some more as well :)

Things I like:

  • Cool Yume Nikki vibes! The inpirations are clear and I really like it, these more exploratory games are my jam.
  • Very atmospheric. Chill piano music with the weird environments sold the unease/wrongness of everything pretty well.
  • Very bold as well. If I got it correctly, you have until the clock runs into 24:00 to find the exit and there's pretty much no indication of where it is, you're just wondering around trying to figure it out all by yourself, no hand holding. I think this is something that's missing on modern games and I always appreciate bold games like this.

Things that I think need improving:

  • Lots of weird collisions, sometimes walls were walls, other times they weren't, lots of things that shouldn't be passable were, other things like shrubs and flowers would pass right above the character. I couldn't tell if these were glitches or intentional, given the weirdness of the game but it's easier to assume these are just glitches.
  • Animations felt really weird, the character looked like she was sliding and she would keep walking in place when you stopped walking. Also, whenever you moved the timer would shake around. Lack of polish overall, but that's just how it is when you're on a game jam.
Developer

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was my first time working with tilemap collisions in unity, so those wonky collisions were a consequence of a lack of experience for the most part. Similar thing with the timer shaking; I have no idea what I did to cause that but left alone due to time constraints.

Submitted(+1)

Its a cool idea, at first I was running around for 30 minutes not finding anything just looking at space, in the second run I managed to leave the dream.

The game looks good but the animations are a bit wonky where the character continues the walking animation even after you stop walking for a bit and just doesn't feel right, the speed and animation don't really fit in my opinion.

Its a cute game

The sound design is great.

An indication of if I am completely outside of the playable area would be cool especially when in the second aberrant kings place when you walk into the abyss there. walked for 10 min in hopes something would happen again :(

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback :). I wish I had a little more time to polish a few of those things, but that’s ok. Your game looks pretty cool too, I’ll play it a little later today.
