Great game! It takes a little time to get used to the mechanics, but it's great fun! The sounds and visuals are great too. The only suggestion would be to add a clear indication of how to throw the grenades downwards because I was stuck at the wall of spikes and had to look in the comments to know that you could do it.
It was also one of my favorite games to speedrun :)
Movement Bomber lol.
Would be nice if the wheel chair had some momentum to it so there was more tech to pull off.
This is an amazing game! although it took some time to understand the bomb mechanics, it was fun and clever. The storytelling was also really cool. The graphics are ok, matches the vibe. Congratulations.
Thank you! I tried to not give away the mechanics right away, taking some time to understand everything was part of the plan. At least I personally like games like this, that trust the player to figure things out. Thanks for playing my game!
Awesome game! Very fun. I don't have enough patience for such games, but I liked it even though I couldn't complete it.
Hahaha, thank you! Yeah, only play for as long as you're having fun!
This is a great game! Rather difficult but very good. Took me a while to understand the different techniques that can be used with the bombs. Sadly I got stuck where you have to somehow go up in a wall full of spikes. I tried wall jumping but the space was too reduced for allowing me to shoot the second grenade. I also tried to send grenades up there, but all my tries failed. Nice music which does not get tiresome. The graphics are nice for the style. I also loved the fact that you added the backstory for the goblin character and used his condition to build the gameplay. Certainly one of the most powerful goblins out there. I would love to see more of this game <3. Best of luck!
Hey, thank you for the kindness! On this level I put the stash under that thin hole with spikes to signal that you can throw grenades down, and hopefully it would've hinted that that's the same thing you have to do to climb that wall you speak of. What you gotta do is jump, throw a grenade down and it will bounce back up and hit you, giving you a double jump. More like an infinite jump actually because you can keep doing it ad infinitum and never touch the ground again, hahaha! But yeah, if you didn't got the hint I should've eased in or make better levels, I try to teach the techniques through level design but it's very hard to do, you fail once and the player is gonna get stuck and feeling lost. But hey, thank you for checking my game out!
Ah! I see, I blew up that stash by throwing two land mines lol. I knew I was missing something XD Yeah, level design is very hard, specially for puzzles. Just until that level was when I got stuck. If I may add a suggestion, you could do something like this:
Instead of a free fall, make a little turn so mines get stuck in the first turn, but grenades can bounce. Use the inclined surfaces to direct the bounce to the stash, which will be achieved only if the grenade was shot straight downwards. There is still the problem where the player can understand they can actually shot downwards, but this could be an option. Awesome game <3
And that's why playtest is important, even better when the playtester is a level designer. Love the suggestion, thank you very much!!!
I like the colors you chose for the character, enemies, and environment art. They all work really well together. I also like the mechanic of using the explosions to propel yourself over obstacles. I did find it quite difficult to hit enemies with the grenades because of how high the trajectory was. Also, my landmines got stuck in walls a lot. It's a good game though. I really enjoyed it!
Hey, thank you for playing! Yeah, the bouncing grenades made it difficult to hit the gnomes with, but the bouncing mechanic was important so I had to make do with it. While I played I relied mostly on landmines to kill them but that's why you need playtesters, right? I could have easily solved this problem by making the gnomes taller, or tweaking the arc of the grenades. Oh well, lesson learned I guess. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!
I like the simple mechanics you managed create with just a bomb and a landmine. Also the music was good, If you made that well done. For the negatives, I would have liked the levels to be slightly shorter, so if you messed up, you didn't have to start all over, other then that, poor, poor gnomes :(
Hey, I'm glad you liked my game, thanks for checking it out! And yeah, you're right about the losing progress part, funny thing is that looking back now the system I implemented to change/restart levels would have been almost trivial to also implement a checkpoint feature for when you die. Lesson learned, I'll keep that in mind in my next game, thanks for bringing that problem to my attention!
Nice game! Great level design and mechanics...
I think it would've been nice with a bit of a tutorial to take you through how to use the explosions to do the jumping, as it took a bit of time at the start to work out what to do.
Great game none the less, enjoyed playing it - great job!
Hey, thank you for playing my game! Yeah, I needed to improve the learning curve of the game. In particular I wanted to have the whole game be a bit like a tutorial, you know, Portal style, where I don't teach it directly I just use level design to make people realize how each mechanic work but doing that effectively requires a lot of playtesting and I just didn't had this luxury on a game jam schedule. I'll get good eventually, I hope, hahaha! I'm happy you enjoyed it!
This game is really cool! I like the mechanic of the bombs as the way to gain height! However, at first, it was kind of confusing, but I got it after a bit. I think I;m bad at this game though, because after ~15 minutes at one pole in level 3, I gave up, 'cause I didn't know there was even a trick for that. However, for the most part, the levels are quite intuitive (once you know how to play). I also enjoyed the graphics, they are well done, although the player could have used a tad more frames (but that isn't a huge deal :)) I also like the variation in SFX and Graphics on the bombs, that was cool to see! Overall, this game a really cool blend of genres, with good controls, fun polish, and a ridiculous story, although it can be a bit confusing and hard to get at points. Nice Job! This should certainly be continued!
Thank you so much for playing! I'm happy you noticed the variations in the bombs and explosion sounds! Personally I'm just bad at art, so I tried making up for it by adding these small polish details and I'm happy someone noticed. And don't worry about being bad, there's been quite a few people saying they got stuck at some point too so maybe I'm the one who's bad at level design, hahaha! I really wanted the game to not be too hard but I also don't wanted to give away the answer to the puzzles instantly, so I had to just ease them in with good level design which is pretty difficult.
But hey, if you wanna know the answer to that pole on the 3rd level, try not landing straight into it, instead of getting height to land on it, get height to put a landmine on top of it.
Ah I see! thanks for taking the time to respond. always nice to see! 'bad at art' Is honestly an understatement. You took a simple artstyle and made it work, which is important for, well, presentation!
I haven't gone past the fourth level yet, but this is a five stars from me already. The visual style is fun and charming, with the subtle differences in animation being really good, and the music is both fitting and pleasant, even when repeated many times. The concept it fun: a platformer where you can't jump and must effectively propel yourself explosively, and most importantly, the gameplay is great and feels smooth, with the bomb bouncing and rocket jumping physics feeling really satisfying. You made a really, really good game!
Hey, thank you so much for playing! I'm glad you liked it! Yeah, I tried to polish the mechanics to the maximum, it was necessary for the puzzles to work. If you want a tip for beating that 4th level, try using the grenade to do a "wall jump". If you throw a grenade when you're right next to a wall, it will bounce into you and explode instantly.
This game looks great! I wish I was a better player, so that I could play it. Unfortunately, I got stuck on the second level. No matter what I did, I couldn't jump through the wider chasm. Can't say too much about the game, unfortunately, since I've seen too little.
The idea of being a disabled goblin who has to jump using explosions is great!
You have to use the grenade to jump over that chasm, the landmine sends up while the grenade sends you diagonally, but requires a wall. You don't need to retry it of course, I'm already grateful to you for playing it, just saying cause you seem like you wanted to see more of it ;)
But yeah, the game can be a little difficult but solving it is mostly a puzzle, it's not so much about precision actually. But yeah, thank you for playing my game!
You have to use the grenade to jump over that chasm, the landmine sends up while the grenade sends you diagonally, but requires a wall.
When I toss the grenades, they land waay to far to jump on them! How do you do it?
There's a wall behind you on that chasm, right? Just toss it right at that wall.
Thanks for the tip!
Wow, just an amazing game, I actually enjoyed it a lot. I found out that if you time a frame-perfect input on both the landmine and grenade, you can get them to explode and start flying, skipping some levels (not sure if intended but still very very funny, I actually would keep it as a hidden feature). Really just a well put together game.
My first full 5 stars rating <3333
Good luck with it mate!
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! No, that thing you described was 100% unintended, thanks for bringing this to my attention! It was important to me that whatever replaced jumping shouldn't work too close to a jump, for example, I thought about letting the player throw a grenade down even on the ground to instantly be sent up, but that's just jumping except you have to push two buttons instead of one. What you discovered is literally the same thing, hahaha!
Thank you for playing my game, glad you liked it!
Just played some of your other games, you are really talented, keep it up!
Thank you for being so nice! I'm sure you're gonna do well in the game jam too, everybody seems to be loving your game from the comments you're getting. You're pretty good too, you know what's important in your game and you executed it pretty well. It's the only game in your profile, if it's your first game jam you're leagues better than me, hahaha!
Yes it is my first jam actually hahahah, I am very excited and put a lot of work, let's do our best.
I am interested in your game a lot, if you plan to keep developing it in the future let me know, I'd be very happy to help you playtest it and stuff.
Good luck <3333
Good Game BRO !!
That was pretty fun! I really like the dual nature of the bombs where you need them for both dealing with enemies and platforming too, pretty clever. The way the bombs interacted with the player felt very nice in general. Very solid work!
Hey, thank you for playing my game! I tried very hard to polish this interaction between the bombs and the player, good to know you liked it!
A very solid game, love the ZX Spectrum esque aesthetic, and the movement gimmicks are a great idea!
Thank you for playing my game! I'm downloading yours right now!
I was excited by this idea, and it did not disappoint at all! I love that you forced me into thinking outside the box, making me plan ahead to set up where landmines were going to go before I ran them through, and it was really satisfying to be able to see the way through the level and execute it first try. It made me think almost as if it were a puzzle game.
The story is simple yet effective, and allows you to focus on the gameplay. Similar thing with the art, simple yet skillfully done. I also like the explosive twist at the end of the level, clearly drawing inspiration from Super Mario Bros with your game’s signature mechanics sprinkled over the top. A lot of thought has gone into this game, and you can really see that as you play through the game.
The only issue I noticed with the game were landmines getting stuck in walls, but that doesn’t seem to impact gameplay so I can understand not worrying about those too much.
I think you could turn this into a full game very easily if you wanted to post-jam, because you have a really solid starting place that just needs more content :).
Also, the song for your game fits so well, and it’s going to be stuck in my head as I fall asleep (which I will be doing very soon). Your loading screen tips are also really well written; yet another point of detail shown within this game. Very fun game, hopefully more people see it.
Hey, thank you for the kind words! Also thanks for bringing the landmines getting stuck in the walls to my attention, I saw this happening during development but wasn't really looking at it for some reason, I was just too worried the game was too difficult, especially that third level. And yes, the game kinda turning into a puzzle game was nice too, I felt it happening as I was making it and decided to lean into it, "listen to the game" as some folks say.
I'm happy you liked it, thanks for playing it!
This idea sounds awesome, I’d love to play it. Is there a way for you to try to reupload it? Even if it’s not part of the jam, just link it here and I’ll give it a go.
Ok, problem fixed. You can download the game now.
I think there was some kind of mistake when you uploaded the game :(((
I'm not sure but when I click "Anger Issues's itch.io page" it takes me to just an image saying "Anger Issues by Rafael Bordoni", no play button or anything else happening, the only thing I got to see were the screenshots, that by the way look lise a great art style choise (specially for a game jam, where we have such little time)
Also, I can tell by the description that you're a nice person haha, I like the way you explain stuff, and the idea for the game was awesome as well :D. I wish I could play it somehow :( !
The game is also desqualified (I guess because of the problem I previously mentioned) so I can't rate either :''(
I hope you fix it soon!
What? I see now the downloads aren't there now but they were before. I try to edit the game and the downloads are all still there, there's still a windows and linux build, it also says uploads are temporarily disabled because of the game jam. Why did it get disqualified?
No idea :((
I was excited to test out the idea you described in the description, I have no idea how a platformer game without a jump would be haha, sounds like fun :)
Hey, problem fixed. You can download the game now!
