  • Loved the visuals and music, there's a lot of care put into systems that are otherwise easy to dismiss in the context of a game jam - such as the reactive camera, enemy animations, and changing music. I liked the noticeable progression in the level design, introducing new enemies in a safer environment and then ramping it up. I felt the gameplay was lacking and movement felt sluggish, little faster run speed and a bigger jump/double jump could have done wonders! Great work!

What do you like about your game?
I think i captured a sliver of the charm of N64 games like DK64, i really like how the texture painted environment turned out

Dang the presentation for this is so charming -- the character designs are great, the environment art is very nice, and the sound effects are on point. A bit more clarity about when I'm starting to drown/need to catch my breath would be helpful (I noticed you were avoiding UI, so maybe a different facial expression or animation + color change for the character?). Also some levels that are a bit more about precise platforming could be a way of varying the gameplay a bit more. But this was fun, I really enjoyed it!

Developer

Thanks i really appreciate it! yea incorporating more platform oriented sections is a great idea to switch up the gameplay. totally agree about the clarity, one thing i planned on doing but ran out of time was an oobleck noise screen shader that would kind of let the players know how low their stamina is. great idea about the color change i wish i thought of doing this just lerping to a more blue hue cause that would of been quick and effective.

This is amazing. The visual style blew me away and it's pretty fun. Unfortunately I got softlocked in two different rooms (in the downloaded version), probably due to the guys who shoot goop sending me into the ground or something. Either way this is sooo good, that last room was tense! Great work!

Stunningly complete game, I might as well have been a kid playing this on my PS2. My only critique is that the shark enemies felt unfair, like there wasn't really anything I could do to predict or avoid their attack. Especially in the last room with multiple of them. Other than that, I had a lot of fun with this game!

Developer

Thanks it means a lot! yea one of the first things i do when i release a polished version is tweak the enemies to  be less unfair ahaha

It was fun to speedrun. I wanting to save as much time as possible using the enemies' projectiles and I got very lucky on the last room.

Awesome game! Made me feel like I was 7 again playing my N64. I was amazed how well it worked in browser, too!

I got stuck underneath the floor when in the purple ooblek sections. Still a fenomenal game. Really enjoyed it.

May the cute exterior of this game not fool you. You are a fresh spawn in this hellish world, with a predator around every corner. You chances of survival are low, as the odds are stacked againt you. The bluish substance predators dwell in saps your strength, and slows down your movement, making the capture inevitable if you stay inn for too long. Soon, a you are swarmed with beasts hungry for your blood circling a little island of safety you managet to get yourself in in a hurried panic.

I loved this game. Didn't get too far, but the visuals and the idea of using Oobleck as the main mechanic are incredible. Well done!

Incredible game with stunning visuals. I like the way you can propel yourself forward using the projectiles the monsters throw at you :)

Amazing,  this game is so colorful with unique art style that quite stands out,  pure visually enjoyable.  Ooblek the poor little thing,  why so many things want to kill it.

This game is really good! If you want to bring this game further try adding a tutorial at the beginning of the game

its insane how beautiful this game looks given the game jam time frame, i am speechless!!! this game is such a feast for the eyes! the whole world and the creatures that inhabit it have this cute and playful energy to it that really does feel like it would come from an N64 collectathon, it captures that era's essence so well! i really love the painted look of the environmental textures, it makes the (also good looking) shiny gelatinous water pop out of the environment! i also love our little playable guy (really reminds of chaos from sonic xd), plus the enemies are insanely well designed and animated, amazing work here!

the gameplay is also really fun! although its very simple (just get to the end), the way how the game visually communicates the gameplay makes it so much better! the desperate struggle to jump your way towards the end while avoiding other creatures like the gators and sharks was visually very comical and cartoonishly playful, making it a pleasant experience to go through! there were times where i felt cornered and trapped, but the level segments never felt too long for me to feel frustrated whenever i died. the game is just really nicely paced, upping the difficulty ever so slightly after every segment. my jaw literally dropped when i saw the final segment, again THE GAME LOOKS SO GOOD!

i had so much fun playing this, what an amazing entry, great work!

Thank you so much for the kind words, you make me want to expand this into a full game!

The visuals and polish are outstanding here, you clearly know what you're doing very well. Great camera direction, solid music choices, tight controls; you could make a Switch trailer out of the in-game footage and no one would ever guess it's a jam game. I guess the sharks could move a little more fish-like (with a turn radius instead of just rotating), but that's a tiny nitpick.

I really enjoyed the little subversion of expectations when I first met the shark and it jump-ate me in the middle of the lake where I thought I'm safe, was a memorable moment and felt very intentional.

I never really got the gameplay parts though. I expected the gators to be stupid little guys that I'm supposed to outsmart in a puzzle-y way but ended up just outrunning them with no problems and even if they caught me they just politely let me go soon after. Same for the shark but with it there at least was an element with dodging at the right time (or just get lucky in one or two attempts). I guess the levels never felt like a rewarding display of skill or cleverness, but rather as a hurdle to get through; which was fine for most of the game since I could just quickly pass them and absorb the experience, but the big level just had me throwing myself at it without understanding that well how am I supposed to get good. I got softlocked in the big level sadly so couldn't see the end. :(

Also, changing colors for the last level to be a little less friendly was a nice touch. Incredible work overall!

Thanks! yea for the sharks i ran out of time to make them follow bezier curves so the movement is a little unnatural, great feedback about the gameplay, if i go back to make this into a more full experience i want to push each area more puzzly where timing + awareness matters and basically to make the decisions the players make have more impact  with less shark rng lol

Real cartoonish. Feels polished, everything has animations, music and SFX is awesome.
Good job!

One of the cutest entry of the jam ! The goopy stuff looks wonderful ! I especially like your camera which felt very nice to use !
Well level design issues aside, would have loved to be able to jump on the crocodile guys. Damage boosting with the balls was very fun and honestly could have been a main gameplay part of the game I would have been delighted!
Love the sounds as well!

Developer

appreciate you ! yea when i figured out the slime ball boosting i loved how they could help you out, crocodile jumping definitely getting added when i make a polished jam version

This is the cutest game ever, everything from the main character, to the environment, even the enemies, all of them were adorable. I really loved the vibes this game was giving. However, gameplay wise I don't feel that strong mainly due to two things, the movement is rather slow and the level design is not as interesting. I feel like filling out the levels with ponds that make the character move slower could be an interesting idea, however most of the time I just ended up just jumping until I reach the end without putting a lot of thought into it. Also, while I like the utilization of a fixed camera to give more power to certain parts of the game, it's also worth noting that there were times where the camera behaved strangely and it blocked my view. Overall, I think this is a pretty charming and interesting entry for the jam, I'd love to see a full version in the future that improves upon the foundation laid by the entry. Great job.

The game looks absolutely lovely! You have to make it into a full game.

Really cute platformer with amazing environment and character art. The gooey shader looks great. The web version lagged a lot during some sections. Really great job overall

It's a very nice game and it's a pretty decent platformer, I loved it

Very cute, impressive effects and with some tweaks and time this could be a genuine title.
