Hi Abel, your portfolio looks amazing but unfortunately I've already found an artist to collaborate with. Sorry, I should have closed this thread to avoid the confusion. But I hope you find a good team and make a great game. Maybe we can collaborate on another Jam in the future. Cheers!

Hi Foks, I got a lot of responses to my request to collaborate elsewhere on the web, and while I liked your stuff, especially your sfx work, I decided to go with another sound designer whose work better suits my style of game (which is pretty cutesy!). Hope you find another team to collaborate with and that you keep doing sick audio work. Cheers!

Hi Rocco, I got a lot of responses to my request to collaborate elsewhere on the web, and while I really liked a lot of your stuff, I decided to go with another sound designer whose work better suits my style of game (usually pretty cutesy!). Hope you find another team to collaborate with and that you keep making great music. Cheers!

Thanks for reaching out, Foks! I've posted in a couple places, so I'm going to look over all the portfolios and will message again once I've made my decision at the end of the week. Looking forward to checking out your work and will be in contact soon, cheers!

Thank you for responding! I had a quick listen, and love the track you made for that socks game. I'm going to check out the rest of your stuff and will get back to you by the end of week! Cheers!

Edit: I've found a team. Best of luck to everyone else!

Hello!

I'm a developer looking for a pixel artist and a sound designer for my team. My philosophy is usually to make simple, high concept 2D games.  I will come up with the concept and will program the game, so you'd only need to send me the files you make and I'll do the rest.

As for my resume, I've entered a few Jams, with my best run being for the Big Game Jam 5 where my game Tipsy Tavern was the second highest rated game in both the game design and originality categories and the 4th highest rated game in the theme category, making it the second highest rated game overall... just dropping points in art and sound categories (rated 22nd and 9th place respectively, which is where you come in!).

And my post polished work is my word game interconnect, which is closing in on 20,000 plays on gd.games with a 91% positive rating.

So if you're interested, link me some of your work and I'll get back to you by the end of the week (also sharing this elsewhere)!

Scope:

Using a typical game where you control a character, defeat enemies, and collect items as a framework, I expect scope of the game to be no bigger than something like this:

Art:

Major Sprites:

  • Player character:
    • Walk Cycle
    • Attack animation 1
    • Attack animation 2
    • Jump animation
    • Hit animation
    • Die animation
  • Enemy character (2)
    • Walk animation
    • Attack animation
    • Hit animation

Other:

  • Title Screen
  • Capsule Art (could just be a rework of the title screen)
  • Background (Or, in the case of a topdown game, a tileset that can be used to create the map)
  • Interactable Background Sprites such as:
    • Platform
    • Spikes
    • Ladder
  • Items x3

Sound:

  • BGM
  • Win BGM
  • Player SFX
    • Walk
    • Attack 1
    • Attack 2
    • Jump
    • Take damage
    • Die
    • Get Item
  • Enemy SFX
    • Walk
    • Attack
    • Hit
    • Die
  • General SFX

Wow! Thank you so much. Video liked and channel subscribed! I'm so happy you managed to figure out all the puzzles and make it to the end even in the game's unfinished state. Really was so satisfying to see someone play it through. Thanks so much for always doing this and best of luck in your future games! Cheers!

Thank you! All credit to the VictrisGames who made the Slicing extension!

Yes, unfortunately I couldn't finish the game and add all the polish I wanted to give all the players a good experience. Still appreciate you playing what you did! Cheers!

Thank you for playing!

Thank you so much for putting in the time to get to the end, even though there was no restart button or hints! Means a lot!

Thank you so much for playing! Keep on cheatin'!

Thanks for playing! Yes, I would have loved to include some more robust hints to improve the player experience but didn't end up having the time. Glad you were able to get have that aha moment even without it though! Cheers!

Sorry I didn't make it in time for the rating period, but I always love playing your cat themed games. They're always super polished, the gameplay is satisfying and the narrative is always a perfect, pleasant vehicle for the game (I almost felt bad for the rat king at the end when he was promising to be good!). The overpowered level worked well too and didn't feel too crazy and squishing the rats was really satisfying (I squished every single one each level). Great job as always and looking forward to the next one!

Sorry I couldn't rate before the deadline, but very nice entry! You incorporated the theme well, and the gameplay loop work well (had fun sniping the viruses). A bit of a tutorial to guide you along the mechanics would have been good but even on its base level you can enjoy it. Good entry!

Sorry I couldn't rate the game in time, and reading the other comments it's a shame you couldn't get the stages working the way you wanted to in time, but I LOVE this squirrel art (or is it a kid in a squirrel costume?) and hope you can put that sprite to use in a game that you give yourself the time to finish. Great art and excited to see more!

Sorry I didn't make it in time for the ratings, but great entry! I liked the destructible 2 and a half D style of the game. The controls are definitely sensitive, but that's kind of the point of the game! Nicely done!

WOW! So sorry I missed the voting window but I LOVED your entry. Yes, the core gameplay mechanic is just mashing Q, but there art, charm, progression system, humor and everything just made me want to keep playing until the end (defeated God in three clicks!). So many things made me laugh like the homeless opponent being a step ABOVE the normal buff guy, when I first lifted the treadmill and skipped leg day instead of running, and just the expressions on all the characters. Not to mention adding in little quirks to all the enemies so there was just enough variety to make each fight different.
AND you actually made such good use of the theme. Fantastic and you should be proud!

Sorry I didn't make it in time for voting, but great job on your game! It was a bit hard to doge the enemy attacks, but using the rockets and jump at the right time was enough for me to get a decent run going. The handmade art and music were great too. Good entry and keep making more games!

Thanks for the feedback, I totally agree. A tutorial and hint system was on the cards, but I couldn't get to it in time. Lesson in scope of the project for a 9 day jam learned!

Yes, I didn't have time to implement a lot of those aspects of the game (title screen, options, tutorials etc.). Game's still quite unfinished, I hate to say!

Thank you so much! It's definitely held together with duct tape and paper clips in the state it's currently in, so I appreciate you playing through what you did. I think the tutorial and UI is in many ways the most important part of Game Jam games, but I couldn't fit it in before the deadline this go around, unfortunately.

And I'm glad you liked the idea--I felt like your game was a design after my own heart as well, so I'm glad you could appreciate my project.

I'm glad the folks who played Yu-gi-oh as kids came across my game. Thank you so much for playing!

Thank you so much!

Thank you! Doing the art for this game was really fun.

Thank you! I thought your team's game was really cool as well!

Thank you so much for playing all the way through! I agree with all your feedback 100%, and it killed me that I didn't have time to implement those features before the deadline, because you're right--as is most players won't get past the first puzzle and when you're rating dozens games for a Game Jam you don't have the time to sit down and fiddle around. Shame because the aspects of the game that I put the most effort into most folks won't see!

So I'm glad at least one player made it to the end, and I'm encouraged to juice up the game feel for the post game-jam revamp. Cheers (and great work on Fae!)

Thank you so much for playing. I didn't know how much overlap there was between this game jam and Yu-Gi-Oh so I'm glad you could appreciate it. And yes, I wanted to include a hint system but unfortunately I left that very necessary bit for last and couldn't end up adding it before the deadline. Still, thanks for playing and if you ever make it back, I'm at least going to fill out the landing page with some hints and instructions. Cheers!

Thank you very much for playing! Will do :)

Fun! Reminds me of the ring collecting mini game in Sonic 3, if you're old enough to remember that one. It plays well, and you can get a good run going even after you've picked up a bit of speed. Of course it could use a coat of paint with some graphical variation and some music and maybe even some powerups and such, but what you have is good fun! Nice entry!

Easily one of the best implementations of the theme in the Jam I've come across so far. Clearly designed from the ground up around the prompt. It took a second for me for it to click, and once I realized that I was literally overpowered and had to play AROUND the ultra sensitivity I had a blast playing (though I couldn't get the cake minigame to happen). Also, I LOVED the art and visual direction especially the fact that all the eff-ups became part of the background in the living room. I'm still yet to beat all the minigames, but you can bet I'll be back to try. Great job! One of my early favorites in the jam!

Very good implementation of the Vampire Survivor mold! Gameplay was smooth, (I thought the menu automatically coming up or having a key to pull it up would have been more natural than clicking on the upgrade icon, though), and you succeeded in one of the most difficult aspects of game jams which is making a decently scaled difficulty! Good entry!

The presentation, art, music and polish were all top notch with this entry. That being said, it's REALLY hard to get a good run going, and having some extra hits or a little leeway would have gone a long way. But those games when you can string together some good jumps and get into the groove are really satisfying and fun. Very nice!

This is actually super fun if you can get the first hit on the enemy car! But if you don't it feels like you can't shake them and you get stuck doing a donut where they're just glued to your tail. That being said, I reset a bunch of times and just played with the idea that if I missed that first collision, I lost and I had a great time. Like the battlebots gameplay and with some polish this can be a great casual game. Good entry!

First and most importantly, the mouse shopkeeper is SO CUTE. Also, as a big Resident Evil fan, I actually think the tank controls on the boat work super well for this game and it's a great gameplay loop. I wish the powerups were cheaper so you could feel like you're progressing faster, but even so great well presented game. Good job!

I enjoyed what I played, and I especially like the blue spark effect that follows the battery character. I got pretty far by just abusing the space bar and wall jumping--which ended up being really fun,  actually! I got stuck on the "remember your dash" screen, but great entry overall!

Simple but fun game, if even a bit on the easy side. But I had a good time playing until I died. Getting the overpowered power up was particularly satisfying and I always went out of my way to try to pick it up! Good job!

Hello, thanks for the feedback!

I've updated the game page with instructions. It plays like a normal battler card game where you drag a monster to the battle zone and make it fight your opponent's monster and the card with the higher attack wins. But your opponents cards are all overpowered, so you need to do some creative cheating each round to even the odds. Hope you get the game to work!

Thank you so much for the detailed comment and thanks for hosting a wonderful event. Genuinely enjoyed so many of the games I played, and was very gratifying to get comments like these from the hosts and other developers. Cheers!

Thank you so much! Should have maybe called it sensible passivity simulator instead!
