Very well put game, reminded me a game I played before, I like this.

Really great game! The visuals, sound, music, gameloop, everything screams "POLIIIIIISHED", it is awesome what you did in only 7 days! The concept is good, and beautifully executed, good job!

My only real complain is that... I got bored really quickly ^^'. All the enemies seem to have the same pattern, so it's always "attack, [block, attack, attack] (repeat until enemy dies)", which gets old quickly ^^'. I would absolutely LOVE to play a game like this, but with more diversity in the attack patterns. That could be a really cool mobile game, I wouldn't mind paying a couple of bucks of watch videos between my runs ;)!

Congratulations, that's a really solid concept =)

Thanks so much for the feedback! You are absolutely right, the various enemy types were meant to have different strategies for attacking / defending - making it a lot more interesting to go through the game. I completely ran out of time for the jam and had to spend the last few hours getting balance in a good place so I could at least submit what I had.

I've included this in the post-jam version which I will upload as soon as the rating period is over.

Thanks so much for playing!

Awesome news, I'll give it another try when you update it =)!

Yet another beautiful pixel art game, well done on this, this is quite a lot for a game jam.

Developer

Thanks for playing it!

Great game.

I really like the visuals and the audio too. It's a simple but well executed idea.

The only thing I would add is different attack speed from the enemies. After some playing I felt the time between attacks and block was kind of "repetitive" and it was easy to remember the pattern and kill.

Great job, really enjoyed playing your game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! I originally intended to have each type of enemy attack differently (some would attack twice in a row, others counter-attacking etc.) but didn't have enough time. I'm adding this in the post-jam version though :)

Cheers!

I liked the game but the constant deaths made me stop playing it. I wasn't able to block anymore when I got the first skill upgrade and that killed my fun.

The graphics are super nice, the sound is super cool (although I'd like more variation) and the feeling is superb.

What a nice game, really ! Good job !

Developer

sorry you had issues playing it! You can't attack and defend at the same time so you sometimes have to stop attacking to properly time a block so that you don't lose any health.

I enjoyed playing this game! 5/5

Thanks so much for playing! :)

Very nice game! Lots of content! You took a very original approach to the combat, because it’s halfway between turn-based and action-like timing. The sound design and artstyle are on point. I love how the damages are shown as rpg dices. Great job :)

Developer

Thanks so much, I'm a big RPG fan so I had to include some rpg flavor into it :)

Fantastic game! Everything was pretty easy to follow and understand. I enjoyed this quite a bit!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing it, glad you enjoyed it!

That is a really great game, I could not make something like that in a week.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! Appreciate you playing through it!

This is incredible all around.  Really well done.  The music and art are incredible.  I love the idea and the take on the theme.  Nothing really negative to say about this game.  Really well done.

Developer

Thank you so much!

By far the best game of the Jam I have played yet. So much polish and a complete product. Art, awesome. Music, awesome. Gameplay, awesome. Addictive, played to the end. (I noticed that the last armor animation has a frame with 2 colored pixels in the bottom left corner.) Fantastic Job!

Developer(+1)

So glad you liked it, thanks for playing through to the end! :)

Good catch on the frame pixel issue! I'll get it fixed in the post jam version.

This game's awesome! It feels very polished and complete and I can't believe it was done in only a week. This already feels like a complete game, though I might mention there was a bug where using the spear(?) I got bugged and couldn't move

Developer

oh no!! so sorry you found a bug! I wish I could repro it and fix it, do you remember if you did anything special? Was it at the beginning of a level, towards the end?

Thanks for the kind words

Kinda got addicted for a bit. Very nice and interesting game. Love the music too it's very relaxing

Developer

Thanks so much! I had a lot of fun making the tunes but lost a ton of time trying to work with a DAW to make it sound 16-bit and ended up just recording it straight to garageband. I need to learn how to use FLStudio grrr

Submitted(+1)

very addictive and interesting game, i would like to commend you for the sound and music

Developer

Thank you so much! Wish I had a bit more time to put more tunes together and polish the sfx a bit but one week is so short :)

Perfect! Lovely colourful pixel art, especially in the intro. Simple controls that could apply to mobile gaming, but lots of depth in combat and upgrades. And, catchy 8-bitish medieval-type tunes to bring the world to life. Kudos! On a technical not, I noticed you used Godot, would you say it has any advantages over Unity?

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing! I'm a bit fan of both Unity and Godot and will usually switch back and forth between the two. I would say the main advantages for me of using Godot are:

- simplicity for 2d games (no need to worry about Z coordinate at all, first  class citizen for camera handling etc),

- faster code-test loop (unity is getting pretty heavy on this side and always takes 2-3 secs to recompile / run and changes when it's instant on godot - so this is just a quality of life

- much smaller footprint (the project takes a few mb and can be worked on from pretty much any low-end hardware)

- in-environment one-click documentation makes it super handy to just look up references on how internal APIs work

- open source usually means friendlier and more open community

I would still use Unity for anything 3d related (Godot 3 still has some lighting issues / 3d model import issues, but that's getting fixed soon I think!) and anything fairly complex (C# is just so much better than gdscript, and it's still a 2nd class citizen for Godot)

Happy to chat more if you want!

This is great, very impressed by the amount of assets and how polished this is for one week. I found the shield was not very useful for me but I really enjoyed the level up and upgrade system. nice work!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Depending on what you upgrade, the shield may not be as effective! Glad you enjoyed the game though!
